2019 BOWIE BAYSOX GAME NOTES Friday, May 10, 2019 - 7:05 P.M 2019 BOWIE BAYSOX GAME NOTES Friday, May 10, 2019 - 7:05 p.m. Prince George's Stadium -- Bowie, MD Richmond Flying Squirrels (11-19) at Bowie Baysox (9-24) RHP Alfred Gutierrez (0-1, 5.60 ERA) vs. LHP Bruce Zimmermann (0-1, 3.08 ERA) Game #34 // Home Game #15 2019 SEASON In Case You Missed It: The Baysox scored a season-high in runs and tied a season-high in hits in a 12-2 series- Overall Record 9-24 clnching win in Altoona. Mason McCoy had four hits and two RBI in the game, Carlos Perez drove in two runs, Home Record 3-11 Alexis Torres drove in three runs and Jesmuel Valentin and T.J. Nichting each had multi-hit efforts. The ten Road Record 6-13 run win was the largest of the season for Bowie, and the series win was the first of 2019. Alex Wells started on Versus Eastern Division 0-0 the mound and earned his second win of the season. Brian Gonzalez and Cristian Alvarado each pitched two Versus Western Division 9-24 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Current Streak W1 Last Homestand 2-5 Baysox Starter: LHP Bruce Zimmermann makes the start today for the Baysox. This is his sixth start of the year. Last Road Trip 3-4 Zimmermann sturggled in his last start in Erie, allowing five runs in 3.1 innings. Prior to that, Zimmermann had posted a 1.57 ERA over his first four starts. Zimmermann was acquired by the Orioles at the 2018 Trade Deadline in Last 5 Games 2-3 a deal with the Atlanta Braves that sent Kevin Gausman and Darren O'Day to Atlanta. Zimmermann made five starts Last 10 Games 4-6 with the Baysox, going 2-3 with a 5.06 ERA in 21.1 innings. Even with the high ERA, Zimmermann only allowed one When Scoring 4+ Runs 8-7 run in three of the five starts. When Scoring 3- Runs 1-17 After Day Off 1-6 In the Other Corner: RHP Alfred Gutierrez is making his sixth start of the year for Richmond. Gutierrez has had In Shutouts 1-7 an up-and-down start to the season, allowing four runs in two of his starts, but two runs or less in his other three In 1-Run Games 2-6 outings. The 23-year-old has struggled to give the Flying Squirrels much length this season, as he has not pitched In 2-Run Games 1-5 more than 4.1 innings in a start. Gutierrez is in his first season in the Giants' organization after spending the first vs. Left-Handed Starters 5-5 seven years of his professional career in the Detroit system. Gutierrez made seven starts in AA-Erie last year, going vs. Right-Handed Starters 4-18 2-3 with a 6.09 ERA. Day Games 4-9 Night Games 5-15 For the Er-Win: LHP Tyler Erwin has been a very dependable arm during high leverage innings out of the Baysox Ahead After 7 Innings 6-0 bullpen this year. Erwin leads the team in wins with two, and has the only three saves recorded by Bowie. In 13.2 Behind After 7 Innings 1-18 innings, Erwin has a 1.84 ERA, and has not allowed a run in 11 of his 13 appearances. Tied After 7 Innings 2-5 Bann-On a Run: INF Rylan Bannon has been the Baysox best hitter throughout the 2019 season. Bannon is tied for Ahead After 8 Innings 7-0 the team lead in home runs (4), and leads the club in RBI (15), batting average (.319) and runs scored (16). Bannon Behind After 8 Innings 1-16 also has the only two four-hit games for the team this season and has ten multi-hit games. Bannon is currently in Tied After 8 Innings 1-4 the midst of a seven-game hitting streak. In Extra Innings 2-2 In Doubleheaders 0-4 Perez Getting Hot: C Carlos Perez had a big series in Altoona. Perez went 4-14 with two home runs and eight RBI When Scoring First 7-6 in the series. The eight runs driven in were the most for any Baysox player in a single series this season. Perez also Opponents Score First 2-18 became the first Bowie player to drive in multiple runs in three consecutive games in 2019. Outhit Opponent 7-4 Welcome to Bowie: INF Mason McCoy made quite the impression after being called-up from High-A Frederick Outhit by Opponent 2-19 prior to the series in Altoona. In three starts, all at shortstop and batting leadoff, McCoy went 7-14 (.500) with a Equal Hits 0-1 home run and three RBI. Hit a Home Run 8-7 No Home Runs 1-17 Top Tier Talent: The Bowie Baysox roster is filled with some of the top prospects in the Orioles' farm system. No Errors Committed 5-7 According to MLB.com, seven of the top 30 prospects in the organization will begin the season in Bowie. Outfielder Baysox vs. Richmond Yusniel Diaz headlines the roster, coming into the year as Baltimore's number one prospect. Outielder Ryan McKenna (#7) and Left-Handed Pitcher Zac Lowther (#8) also rank in the Orioles' top ten. Pitchers Hunter Harvey 2019 Record: 2-3 (#12), Dillon Tate (#18), Zach Pop (#20) and Infielder Rylan Bannon (#23) round out the top prospects that start 4/9 at Richmond W, 8-5 the 2019 campaign with the Baysox. 4/10 at Richmond L, 3-2 4/29 vs. Richmond L, 3-2 The Buck Starts Here: 2019 marks Buck Britton's first season as manager of the Bowie Baysox. Britton replaces 4/30 vs. Richmond W, 6-4 Gary Kendall, who was the head man in Bowie from 2011-2018. Britton picked up his first victory as a AA manager 5/1 vs. Richmond L, 7-3 on April 7 against the Harrisburg Senators. Last season, Britton managed the Delmarva Shorebirds, leading the 5/10 vs. Richmond club to a 68-66 record. Prior to getting into coaching, Britton played nine seasons in Minor League Baseball, and 5/11 vs. Richmond spent parts of 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 with the Baysox.
