The sessions are: Faculty Session I: Sunday, 10:00 - 11:00 am: Sharing Best Practices for Model UN Classes. Faculty Session II: Monday, 6:30 - 7:30 pm: Sharing Faculty Research: tentative presentations and discussion on the Security Council, Legitimacy in the IAEA and Sex Trafficking Related to Enforcement of UNODC. Faculty Session III: Tuesday, 10:00 - 11:00 am: Informal session with the Osgood Center: Opportunities for your department or Model UN students. All three sessions will be held in the Michigan Rooms on the Meeting Room (2nd) Level. These discussions will be led by panelists drawn from our faculty ranks and we hope that all FAs at the Conference will participate. There are no “right” answers to the questions presented in these workshops, but rather a wide range of ways to accomplish our mutual goals and many great ideas that can be shared with others. These sessions are intended to provide a forum for that exchange. AMUN is pleased to provide this opportunity for informative sessions which are specific to faculty interests. We always welcome suggestions for future faculty session topics. Bringing Global Perspectives to Future Leaders 2007 American Model United Nations International Page 3 Keynote Speaker Bio: Senator Robert Krueger Bob Krueger has had a variety of careers. First, an academic career. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oxford University, and served as a Professor of English and as Vice Provost and Dean of the Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University. Then, a business career. In addition to doing private consulting, he served as Chairman of the Board of Comal Hosiery Mills, and as President of Krueger As- sociates. Later, a career in public service. He served his state as Texas Railroad Commis- sioner, a statewide elected office responsible for regulating all oil and gas produc- tion in Texas. He has served his nation both in elective and appointive office. He was both a Member of Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives and was later U.S. Senator from Texas. In diplomacy, he has served as U.S. Ambassador-at-Large and Coordinator for Mexican Affairs, as U.S. Ambassador to Burundi, and then as U.S. Ambassador to Botswana and Special Representative of the U.S. Secretary of State to the 14 nations of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). During his service in Burundi, Krueger’s outspokenness on human rights issues provoked an ambush of his convoy in which two persons were killed and eight grievously wounded, although the gunfire piercing his car missed all pas- sengers. At that time President Bill Clinton stated, “Our symbols need to be people like Ambassador Krueger, who risked his life to try to keep people alive in Burundi.” During the same period, Ted Koppel, in an ABC “Nightline” program entitled “Mr. Ambassador,” said, “There is a lot about Bob Krueger that exemplifies the best in America. He appears deeply principled, a man with a profound sense of right and wrong.” As a writer, in addition to publishing one book on English Literature and a variety of articles, he for over four years wrote a weekly column for the Dallas Morning News, Houston Post, San Antonio Express, and Corpus Christi Call- er-Times. His book on living amid genocide in Burundi was released in October, 2007, by the University of Texas Press. In his foreword, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu writes, “This is an important book about Africa, but it is not simply the story of Africans or Americans, but of all of us.” Paul Rusesabagina, the hero and
