TBEY presents its 6th annual SUMMER DANCE CONCERT “A JOURNEY THROUGH DANCE”, with local youth dancers of all ages and backgrounds. It will feature solo and group performances from dancers and dance groups in Milwaukee. Viewers will take a trip through dance. The event featuring local youth dancers, professional dancers, dance groups, local artist, and students of the TBEY Dance Team. These talented individuals will get a chance to show off their talents to the Milwaukee community.

The SUMMER DANCE CONCERT will take you on “A JOURNEY THROUGH DANCE”, reaching a diverse audience. The dance concert presents to the audience; modern, jazz, hip-hop, salsa, ballet, tap, step, Irish and African dance. It will allow the audience to experience different cultures and appreciate the art of dance. The goal is to promote dance awareness in Milwaukee and the Southeastern Wisconsin area. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Contessa Cole AJTD STARS JANAE BARNETT I am 14 years old and will be a freshman next fall attending Pius High School. I love to sing and dance and sometimes I do theatre. I have been with TBEY for almost 5 years; it is like my second home.

JESSICA MCPHAN I am in 5th grade and this is my first year dancing at TBEY. They taught me to have confidence and passion in dance. For my future I plan to dance for a very long time. CAMBREE RUTLIN I have been dancing for almost 3 years. I love dance, my world is dance. Before I got into dance I would be in my room for hours practicing and learning new dances on YouTube. I always wanted to be a gymnast and a dancer. TBEY has offered me a lot of things to do. It has given me a lot of knowledge and good dance techniques and I will never forget this place. ADREAN MAXWELL I’m going to Lincoln Middle School of the Arts. I’ve been dancing for four years. This is my first year in TBEY and I’m having fun. AJTD STARS ZAKIYA WILLIAMS I’m 12 years old and I go to Mount Olive. I’m in the 7th grade. The first day I came to TBEY I was shy, and they taught me a lot of stuff.

SAMOND BUGGS I have been dancing for a very long time now. I just recently joined TBEY and I love it! TBEY challenges me and makes me a well-rounded dancer. I have been interested in the arts since I was little. I sing, dance, act, draw, etc. Dancing helps me express my feelings and let all of my emotions out. Performing arts as a whole just helps me discover my inner self.

MERQUIDES VELEZ, JR. Wassup!!!I am a sophomore at MHSA. I have been dancing for about four years now, and when I first started I fell in love and knew that this is what I want to do for my career. This is my first year at TBEY and I love it. The choreographers are such a pleasure to work with. They pushed me to be the best I can be and I’m glad that I chose this company. JASMINE DAVIS-EVANS I am 18 years old and have been dancing 14 years and counting. Dance styles that I continue to perform are ballet, point, and Middle Eastern dance. My plan is to pursue a dance degree and become a professional dance teacher. This summer I have enjoyed this lovely experience at TBEY.

KAYLENA BARNETT My name is Kaykena Barnett, I am 15yrs old and I love dancing. I have been with TBEY for a little over 5 years now. It’s an amazing experience being here and I learn so much each year, and get new challenges each year. Being a choreographer is awesome and I love the challenges/experiences that come with it. SHANNON EUBANKS I’m 19 years old. I’ve been with TBEY for four years. Every year I am improving as a dancer. I have one and a half years of college dance experience and continue to excel.

DESHAWN WHITMORE I’ve been with TBEY for 6 years. It has been a good experience for me to become a professional dancer. MARISHA JACKSON I am currently attending Milwaukee High School of the Arts as a level 4 dance major. Joining a program called Discovering Our Destiny gave me the motivation to become more experienced in dance. Learning new styles and techniques made me fall in love with dancing. This year joining TBEY has been a fun and loving experience. Learning new styles has been really fun. Being pushed by the TBEY team has taught me to live in the moment.

DIAMOND JONES Hello, I am a senior at Pius XI High School. I’ve been dancing since I was five years old. Throughout my younger years I’ve been training and studying several types of dances that I have grown to love. This is my first year at TBEY. As an intern I learned to focus on technique because it helps with the basic foundation of dance. TBEY has made me a greater dancer and performer. I love TBEY! CHANCIE COLE I’ve been dancing since forever. I love the arts & entertainment (dance, rap, theatre, acting and “trying” to sing.) As part of TBEY dance staff and lead choreographer for “AJTD” summer dance concert, I work hard to give patrons a great show. This has always been my dream and I look forward to continuing it. DESMOND COTTON Cotton is 21 years old, and has been dancing for Eight (8) years. Cotton is an original TBEY dancer, choreographer and instructor. Working with the organization since 2007, Cotton is proud to share his work with TBEY’s 6th annual dance production. Cotton is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

MARISSA CHOICE Hola people! I was introduced to dance at the age of three and realized my passion for it at the age of nine when I was accepted into Ton Ko-Thi Dance Company. I then attended Milwaukee High School of the Arts for dance, of course. This is my second year with TBEY as a production choreographer and I’m honored to be a part. Working with everyone brightened my days and it has become a second home! I can’t wait for next year! I love you guys!

DIVA DOLLZ DANCE ACADEMY Diva Dollz Dance Academy is a brand new dance academy that offers instruction in Jazz, Ballet, Pom and Hip Hop. Our academy also offers a competitive component which allows members show their skills in various local, regional and national competitions.

DANCE EDUCATION CENTER Dance Education Center is a private dance school fostering technical training while emphasizing artistry and development as an individual. A holistic approach incorporates various lesson plans and activities to embrace and encourage dance as an education one can use for a lifetime. “Unpinned” was related though a collaborative effort of the cast of young dance artists and choreographers. The work was premiered at UW-Madison’s Pre-Collegiate Summer Dance Invitational in June 2014.

WARPED DANCE COMPANY Artistic Director Maria Hackbarth formed Warped Dance Co in November of 2007. The company is working towards a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit corporation with the mission to create art without boundaries and expose and educate the community about the relevance and vitality of concert dance. The company currently consists of a group of youth dancers (ages 11-16) and a group of professional dancers (ages 17+). The Youth Company began its first year as of 2013!

Warped Dance Co, now in its 7th year, has performed extensively at venues and festivals including the Denver Independent Choreographers’ Project, Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, the Uptown Performance Series (NYC), the 1st International Dance Festival Antigua-Guatemala and in 2013 the company went on its first tour throughout the Northern regions of Chile. Warped Dance Company is currently working in collaboration with Lesole’s Dance Project. Their showcase will debut in Washington DC, January 2015. The SPOTLIGHT SPONSORS
