  • Plymouth Gin Has a Long Maritime Heritage Which Has Taken It to the Four Corners of the World
Plymouth Gin has a long maritime heritage which has taken it to the four corners of the world Plymouth Gin is an artisanal gin made according to its original recipe from 1793 still crafted in the oldest working distillery in England using soft Dartmoor water and pure grain alcohol. Centuries of tradition are evident in the unique recipe of Plymouth Gin that is today guarded by Master Distiller, Sean Harrison, one of the most experienced gin distillers in the UK. Plymouth Gin is proud of its long maritime heritage and its historical links to the city of Plymouth, an association that has taken the gin to the four corners of the world. In 1620, the Pilgrim Fathers, captained by Christopher Jones, set sail on-board the Mayflower to a new life in the New World. The Plymouth Distillery’s historic bar, ‘The Refectory’, is reputed to have been the room where they gathered before departing the old world for the new. Plymouth was known as the ‘City of Discovery’ and was a gateway to the world for Britain’s famous explorers, including Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Frances Drake. Plymouth’s gentle yet complex flavour profile has long been acknowledged by bartenders worldwide as an ideal gin for cocktails. By the 1930s, Plymouth Gin was synonymous with the best cocktails and the gin of choice for many cocktail recipes. Today, Plymouth Gin is found around the world in the trendiest cocktail lounges, the hippest restaurants and pubs, and finest hotel bars, including: New York’s Employees Only and London’s American Bar at The Savoy.

Whatever you’re after, your favourite choice of tipple, or your mood we hopefully have included something to intrigue and inspire you. Nick Wilkins Make Me A Cocktail creator Equipment Cocktail Shaker You can’t get far with most cocktails without the staple of any personal home bar - the cocktail shaker. Add some ice to the ingredients within, shake for 10-15 seconds and strain into the required glass. Simple. Strainer Right after the cocktail shaker comes the strainer. Some shakers have a basic strainer built in, but to catch all those ice lumps or fruit pieces you don’t want in your finished product, a simple strainer suffices.

  • Trails of the Cocktail 5 14 18.Pdf
Trails of the Cocktail Few cities can boast more historic significance in their cocktail culture than the Crescent City: birthplace of the Sazerac, Ramos Gin Fizz, the Grasshopper, the Hurricane, and (backed by one of the best apocryphal origin stories ever concocted) even the cocktail itself. In 1769 Spanish Colonial Governor of Louisiana Alejandro O‟Reilly issued a proclamation allowing one limonadier (lemonade seller), twelve taverns and six billiard halls to dispense alcoholic beverages. Closing time was ordained to be 8 pm, but bribes to the necessary officials extended the hours over the years. Rum came into the port of New Orleans and was taxed by the Spanish colonial government. Pat O‟s, Home of “The Hurricane” The “Hurricane”, the most popular drink at Pat O‟Brien‟s in the French Quarter, was created during World War II when liquor such as whiskey was in short supply. In order to purchase just one case of these preferred liquors, liquor salesmen compelled bar owners to purchase as many as 50 cases of rum, which was plentiful. In an effort to utilize the excess of rum, Pat O‟Brien's famous recipe emerged. The name came along soon after when a glass (shaped like a hurricane lamp chimney) was used to serve the popular rum cocktail. Don the Beachcomber (1907 — 1989), founding father of Tiki culture (Tiki bars, restaurants and nightclubs), enjoyed great popularity in the United States — mostly from the late 1940s through the mid-1960s. He and his friendly rival “Trader Vic” Bergeron are still remembered for their cultural influence.
