E-15002 A Coruña (ESPAÑA). e-mail: [email protected] Resumen: Se elabora un listado comentado y puesto al día de los Drepanidae (Lepidoptera) presentes en O Courel (Lugo, Galicia, España, N.O. Península Ibérica), recopilando los datos bibliográficos existentes (sólo para dos especies) a los que se añaden otros nuevos como resultado del trabajo de campo del autor alcanzando un total de 13 especies. Entre los nuevos registros aportados se incluyen tres primeras citas para la provincia de Lugo: Drepana curvatula (Borkhausen, 1790), Watsonalla binaria (Hufnagel, 1767) y Cimatophorina diluta ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775). Incluimos también nuevas citas de Drepanidae para otras localidades del resto del territorio gallego, entre las que aportamos las primeras de Falcaria lacertinaria (Linnaeus, 1758) para las provincias de Ourense y Pontevedra. Abstract: Lepidoptera from O Courel (Lugo, Galicia, Spain, NW Iberian Peninsula) VII: Drepanidae (Lepidoptera). An updated and annotated list of the Drepanidae (Lepidoptera) know to occur in O Courel (Lugo, Galicia, Spain, NW Iberian Peninsula) is made, compiling the existing bibliographic records (only for two species) and reaching up to 13 species after adding new ones as a result of field work undertaken by the author. Amongst the new data the first records of Drepana curvatula (Borkhausen, 1790), Watsonalla binaria (Hufnagel, 1767) and Cimatophorina diluta ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) for the province of Lugo are reported. -

Résumé : Les études de phylogénie moléculaire sur les Lépidoptères Rhopalocères et Zygènes sont de plus en plus nombreuses ces dernières années modifiant la systématique et la taxinomie de ces deux groupes. Une mise à jour complète est réalisée dans ce travail. Un cadre décisionnel a été élaboré pour les niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifique avec une approche intégrative de la taxinomie. Ce cadre intégre notamment un aspect biogéographique en tenant compte des zones-refuges potentielles pour les espèces au cours du dernier maximum glaciaire. Cette démarche permet d’avoir une approche homogène pour le classement des taxa aux niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifiques. Les conséquences pour l’acquisition des données dans le cadre d’un inventaire national sont développées. Summary : Studies on molecular phylogenies of Butterflies and Burnets have been increasingly frequent in the recent years, changing the systematics and taxonomy of these two groups. A full update has been performed in this work. -
Insect Ecology-An Ecosystem Approach
FM-P088772.qxd 1/24/06 11:11 AM Page xi PREFACE his second edition provides an updated and expanded synthesis of feedbacks and interactions between insects and their environment. A number of recent studies have T advanced understanding of feedbacks or provided useful examples of principles. Mo- lecular methods have provided new tools for addressing dispersal and interactions among organisms and have clarified mechanisms of feedback between insect effects on, and responses to, environmental changes. Recent studies of factors controlling energy and nutri- ent fluxes have advanced understanding and prediction of interactions among organisms and abiotic nutrient pools. The traditional focus of insect ecology has provided valuable examples of adaptation to environmental conditions and evolution of interactions with other organisms. By contrast, research at the ecosystem level in the last 3 decades has addressed the integral role of her- bivores and detritivores in shaping ecosystem conditions and contributing to energy and matter fluxes that influence global processes. This text is intended to provide a modern per- spective of insect ecology that integrates these two traditions to approach the study of insect adaptations from an ecosystem context. This integration substantially broadens the scope of insect ecology and contributes to prediction and resolution of the effects of current envi- ronmental changes as these affect and are affected by insects. This text demonstrates how evolutionary and ecosystem approaches complement each other, and is intended to stimulate further integration of these approaches in experiments that address insect roles in ecosystems. Both approaches are necessary to understand and predict the consequences of environmental changes, including anthropogenic changes, for insects and their contributions to ecosystem structure and processes (such as primary pro- ductivity, biogeochemical cycling, carbon flux, and community dynamics). -

This review considers selenium essentiality and toxicity to insects as well as insects’ contribution to selenium trophic transfer through the food chains. Data on Se accumulation by insects of the Dniester River Valley with no anthropogenic Se loading reveal typically low Se content in necrophagous insects compared to predators and herbivores and seasonal variations in Se accumulation. 1. Abstract: Given the absence of Lepidoptera inventories in the State of Acre and its scarcity in the Brazilian Amazon forest, this study aimed to list the species of Hesperioidea and Papilionoidea present in the Parque Estadual do Chandless and surroundings. The access to the region is complicated and it has no infrastructure for scientific research. During 14 days, the butterflies were collected with entomological nets, traps and Ahrenholz’s technique in different environments in the park and its surroundings. A total of 482 species were identified, none of them present in red lists of endangered species. It is expected a significantly greater number of species after the addition of new collections in other seasons, as the Jacknife 1 estimate does not reach its asymptote, or as compared to inventories in nearby areas that list nearly 1700 species after a greater sampling effort. Európa és a Földközi-tenger térségének búska- és pillangó- faunájának magyar nevekkel ellátott fajjegyzéke Az eddigieket kiegészítve, a Tshikolovets (2011) által leközölt fajjegyzék nyomán bemutatom az Európában és a Földközi-tenger térségében előforduló Pillangóalakú lepkék magyar elnevezéseit. Ez olvasható a következőkben. A fajok család, alcsalád és tribusz szerint kerülnek felsorolásra. A rendszertani kategóriákat követően olvasható az odasorolt fajok tudományos és magyar elneve- zése. A tribuszokon belül a fajnevek betűrendben követik egymást. A jegyzékben kövér betűk jelzik a Kárpát-medencében honos vagy kipusztult, vagy az egyetlen vagy néhány példány alapján jelzett fajokat. Ez utóbbi fajok egy ré- sze valóban tenyészett vagy csak ideiglenesen megtelepülő lehetett. Néhány faj elő- fordulási adata viszont bizonyosan elcédulázott vagy félrehatározott példányokon alapult. A tudományos nevek Tshikolovets névjegyzékét követik.(16) A latin név után megadom Tshikolovets könyv oldalszám-hivatkozását, ahol a fajt ábraanyag és rö- vid szöveg mutatja be. Ez után a Gozmány-féle magyar név következik, ami gyakor- latilag a Hétnyelvű Szótár (Gozmány 1979) névanyaga. A kéziratos nevek (Gozmány kézirat, vö. 8. ábra) csak akkor kerülnek felsorolásra, ha a faj a szótárból kimaradt, vagy a név különbözik az ott olvasható névtől. A Gozmány-féle nevek után az álta- lam javasoltak olvashatók (Bálint 2006 és 2008). Sok fajnak nem volt még magyar neve, ezeknek újat adok. Minden ilyen esetet külön jelzek. Bár a Gozmány-féle faji jelzőket igyekeztem megtartani, azoktól szakmai okok miatt számos esetben el kellett térjek. Ezek megindoklásától eltekintek, mivel az je- lentősen megnövelné ennek a munkának a terjedelmét. Viszont a névjegyzék után következő fejezetben megadom a rendszertani kategóriák képzéséhez használt tu- dományos és magyar nevek magyarázatát. -

We surveyed Lepidoptera found on 11 species of Inga (Fabaceae:Mimosoideae) co-existing on Barro Colorado Island, Panama, to evaluate factors influencing diet choice. Of the 47 species of caterpillars (747 individuals) recorded, each fed on a distinct set of Inga.In the field, 96% of the individuals were found on young leaves. Growth rates of caterpillars that were fed leaves in the laboratory were 60% higher on young leaves compared to mature leaves. When caterpillars were fed leaves of nonhost Inga, they grew more slowly. These data provide support for a link between preference and performance. However, among hosts on which larvae normally occurred, faster growth rates were not associated with greater host electivity (the proportion of larvae found on each host species in the field, corrected for host abundance). Growth rates on normal hosts were positively correlated with leaf expansion rates of the host, and fast expansion was associated with leaves with higher nutritional content. Detailed studies on a gelechiid leaf roller, the species with the largest diet breadth, allowed us to assess the importance of factors other than growth that could influence diet electivity. This species showed a 1.7-fold difference in growth rate among Inga hosts and faster growth on species with fast-expanding leaves. -
