INTO 2016 WITH BMW. successful BMW M6 GT3 on the Nordschleife finishing fifth. The outfit from St. Ingbert will contest the Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours as well. As usual, BMW Motorsport will make many of its top drivers available for the 24-hour races. The ROWE Racing line-up for the classic in Spa-Francorchamps includes BMW DTM driver Maxime Martin, IWSC driver Dirk Werner, as well as Alexander Sims, Philipp Eng, Nick Catsburg and Stef Dusseldorp. BMW DTM driver Martin Tomczyk is also supporting team principal Roberto Ravaglia’s BMW Team Italia in the Pro-Am Cup. The Boutsen Ginion Racing team will also field one BMW M6 GT3 in the Pro-Am Cup, to be driven by Karim Ojjeh, Julian Darras and Olivier Grotz. As well as the 24-hour races, Schubert Motorsport and ROWE Racing will also complete an extensive race programme as customer racing teams in 2016. Only one of the seven Audi R8 LMS ultra cars made it into the super pole qualifying session of the 20 best squads. A changed technical rating of the Audi R8 LMS ultra that, with a tally of 18 title wins has been extremely successful, has significant effects in this season. Audi’s customer sport race car has won the Blancpain Endurance Series twice in succession since 2011. Now, the balance of performance has clearly slowed the car. In the last race of the series at Le Castellet, only one of the nine Audi driver squads managed the leap into the top ten. At the season’s pinnacle event at Spa, Laurens Vanthoor in the WRT Audi designated as car number ‘1,’ achieved grid position 20 in the super- pole qualifying session. The Belgian took a high risk and touched a tire stack which damaged the rear wing of the Audi R8 LMS ultra. Behind him, the picture was clear as well. Five Audi R8 LMS ultra cars qualified within 315 thousandths of a second and thus showed a very cohesive performance.

As expected, the most important GT3 race of the year features a uniquely competitive field as merely 1.544 seconds separated the fastest vehicles after the first qualifying sessions on Thursday night.
