Level Intro Cutscene

The Cutscene starts with Jyn, Cassian and K-2SO flying to the city, and covers the ~25 Mins events up to the start of the rebels’ attack on the Kyber crystal transport caravan. – 31Mins The focus would be on the grenade thrown by the rebel. As the grenade explodes the screen fades to white, then fades into the gameplay.

Players find themselves thrown into a heavy gunfight from the cover of two nearby buildings, but Jyn, Cassian and K-2 are separated to different buildings. Jyn Cassian + K-2

Players must battle the Stormtroopers taking cover behind the tank, and spread across the open market square. Characters in both buildings need to be used to hit all of the Stormtroopers.

Cassian must use his Quadnoculars to spot a weakspot in the tank turet, which can only be hit from Jyn’s point of view.

Jyn can then Shoot the target “killing” the turret gunner and breaking the turret.

After defeating the tank gunner and battling 10 Stormtroopers, another wave of enemies make their way through the open archway. At this point a Rebel fighter at the top of the building opposite is preparing to throw a bomb into the market near a trapped civilian. Jyn or Cassian must now shoot the Rebel fighter to save the civilian.

As the Rebel is shot, the bomb falls and causes rubble to build up in the archway, preventing the player from leaving. Jyn, Cassian and K-2 jump over the cover wall, into the market.

There are three civilians that are now trapped following the attack. The player must save them in different ways.

1) The first civilian is hanging off the white balcony to the left. The LEGO market stall in the alley can be broken into pieces and rebuild as trampoline under the civilian. Who then jumps down to safety.

2) Use the Rebel Access Panel to the left, to cease buildings “lockdown” and free the civilian trapped behind the bars.

3) Breaking apart another Market stall reveals pieces that can be built into strength handles, that K-2 can use to lift the heavy boulder off the , trapped underneath.

All the trapped civilians are now free, but the a second wave of Stormtroopers charge in over the rubble, opening fire and breaking more parts off the tank.

The debris from the tank can now be built into either a drone, to help shoot the enemy, or used to rebuild the tank turret for the players use.

The player must defeat this wave of Stormtroopers without cover, shooting and fighting face to face.

A constant stream of enemies show up in small numbers.

“We need to stop these troopers” –

Another 10 Stormtroopers are dealt with, and Cassian uses the Quadnoculars again to discover a valve next to the archway. Turning the valve draws a pair of curtains across the gate.

As the curtains are drawn, a grapple point is revealed in the wall. When the grapple is pulled off the ledge, LEGO Pieces fall to the floor near the tank.

These can then be built into an Imperial Access Panel with cables leading to the tank.

Completing the Access Panel causes the Kyber boxes on the tank to be flung off the side and break apart on the floor.

This section of the level ends as the player uses the pieces of the Kyber boxes and rebuilds them into single droid looking object made out of Kyber Crystal and old parts of the boxes.

A minicut plays showing a civilian running over and using their market stall cart as a stretcher, throwing the droid onto the cart like an injured footballer.

“KYBER!” – Civilian

At this moment, a peeks through the curtains and shouts:

“They’re the ones we’re looking for!” – Stormtrooper

The curtains are thrown open, revealing a large group of Stormtroopers accompanied by an AT-ST. Jyn, Cassian and K-2 run through the alley that was previously blocked by the above civilian and their market stall.

As in LEGO : TFA, Chapter 4 “The Eravana” Part 2, There is a short chase scene to finish this section of the level. During this chase scene, Players must use the movement controls to keep running, this is to keep players engaged with what’s happening and immerse them in the chase. If the player lets go of the controls or slows down, the character will stop running and quickly be “killed” by stormtrooper and AT-ST fire. If this happens the screen “wipes” to black and then the chase section is restarted.

The Trio run through ~32 Mins the narrow streets of – 33Mins Jedha City with a horde of Stormtroopers chasing them, and an AT-ST following alongside behind the buildings, firing powerful shots.

While being chased, button prompts fade onto the screen, from transparent to solid, and then flash. The player must hit the corresponding button to perform and “action” to jump, dodge or slide past an obstacle such as a market stall or fallen boulder.

If the player misses the button prompts, the character hits the obstacle and must slowly bypass it. This allows the perusing force to land a hit on the player, taking a heart off their health. They are not killed, unless it is their last heart.

at ~17 seconds into the chase (see below as to how that time was calculated*), players enter a cover section at an open gate. Jyn goes to the left, and Cassian and K-2 go to the right. The player has 10 seconds to stop the AT-ST, before it gets to close and shoots the player. This would cause character to be killed and the chase restarted.

Jyn can grapple to block the perusing AT-ST, by pulling the shop front off a building of the right. The resulting debris prevents the from moving down the street.

Similarly, Cassian can sharp shoot a target on the left to cause an explosion and rubble to block the AT-ST.

K-2 can hit the cracked LEGO next to Cassian, and break the circuitry in the wall which closes the gate.

Only one of these needs to be done in the 10 seconds for the level to progress.

After the cover section, the chase continues and the group run to the end of the street. As they approach the corner a small group of Stormtroopers exit a doorway on the left.

The Chase continues through the market and crowds, as they attempt to lose the enemy. One the characters reach the end doorway, the Midtro cutscene plays.

*As I don’t know the standard running speed in the LEGO games, I’ve scaled

everything as if a standard Minifigure is “life sized” and around 6ft tall, then using the average humans running speed of ~10 to 15mph. As 11mph roughly equates to 5 meters per second, each street was worked out to the nearest 5 meters. This chase sequence should last around the 40-52 seconds

mark, depending on whether the player hits all the quick time events or not.

Jedha Showdown Level Midtro Cutscene The Cutscene starts with Jyn, Cassian and K-2SO running into the next street ~34 Mins and into a group of Stormtroopers. Chirrut Imwe is walking around the area – 35Mins and poking into each corner of the players’ screen repeating his line;

“Let them pass in peace” – Chirrut Imwe

While Chirrut is distracting the Stormtroopers, Jun, Cassian and K-2 sneak into a nearby building. When they are inside, Chirrut unleashes his talents on the Stormtroopers, and the cutscene transitions into a minicut.

35m 26s

Level intro Minicut: The camera cuts to a shot of Chirrut fighting the stormtroopers through a window of the building Jyn, Cassian and K-2 entered, then pans out to reveal the “Not Eisley Cantina”. Baze Malbus is trapped on the other side of the crashed X-Wing, and shouts to the protagonists; “Help me get passed this X-Wing, I need to reach Chirrut before he gets hurt!” – Baze Malbus

Baze can also be seen through the windows and holes in the wall of the derelict cantina, he too is battling a never-ending line of Stormtroopers. While Baze stands his ground and uses his gun, Chirrut is stringing together combos of melee attacks to defeat the Stormtroopers, both outside of the playable area and are NPC’s in this level.

To complete the level, the X-Wing outside must be moved so the Gold LEGO on the rear is visible to Baze, who can use his gun to break it and clear a way through to Chirrut.

To start, K-2 must smash apart the cracked LEGO to the left of the cantina. Then Jyn or Cassian can climb the wall revealed behind the cracked LEGO. Then use the bar hops to the right, to access the area above the band stand / stage.

When on the first balcony, either Jyn or Cassian can Sharp Shoot the target on the supporting beam overhead.

This drops the floorboards above and a collection of Empire ship “toys”, such as small shuttles and star destroyers.

The models fall and break on the floor into LEGO pieces. These pieces are then built into a “slingshot” machine.

The machine has bar hops attached to the top so the character who shot the debris down can cross to the next balcony.

As for K-2 who is stuck on the ground. He can use the slingshot to fire himself up onto the ledge once Cassian has activated it with a Rebel Access Panel.

Once all characters can reach the balcony to the right, K-2 must use the strength handles on the wall

When the large container is pulled out from the wall, Jyn and Cassian and jump onto the top, and then they can reach the Ledge Grab bars, and work their way up another level, K-2 cannot access any higher levels from this point.

Jyn and Cassian can head left and use the “wall hug” ledge to cross the gap, which was made by shooting the empire models down earlier.

Cassian Uses the Quadnoculars to discover a grapple point, which Jyn uses to reach the rafters. Only Jyn can make it all the way to the top of the building.

Once Jyn has reached the top, and walked out onto the balcony, the Grapple point on the top of the X-Wing is now accessible, while Chirrut and Baze are still battling in the street below.

Once the grapple has been completed, the rear of the X-Wing is visible, and Baze has sight of the Gold LEGO near the engines.

This triggers the minicut of Baze clearing the remaining Stormtroopers and firing at the Gold LEGO on the X-Wing. This causes a minor explosion that moves the surrounding rubble, just enough for him to climb over and assist Chirrut.

The Outro sequence is triggered at this stage where all the characters meet in the square.

~36 Mins – 38 Mins

Cut Mechanic: I considered creating a mechanic based on Chirrut’s blindness for the scene where he fights the Stormtroopers. This consisted of the screen going black, and a very faint outline of the nearby surroundings. A targeting reticle would move around the screen which the player would have to match with another reticle controlled with the left joystick, this would still cause the character to move around the level but the reticles position would be guiding the player to the nearest enemy or mechanic. Button prompts would show up when near and enemy or mechanic that Chirrut could use. This was intended to reflect the trust that Chirrut has in , and how it guides him.

I scrapped this idea after considering how the entire game would have to be designed to accommodate this feature for only one character.
