Quite a lot of events go un- successful due to lack of effective marketing, and one of the biggest marketing mistakes most event organizers make is timing. Many events in Addis and beyond start advertising just a few days before the event date to make it hard for themselves build publicity and for event media like LinkUp Addis hard to host their content effectively into the plat- forms. Thus, the LinkUp Addis team would like to call organizers in the industry send the events they are planning to organize at least 2-3 weeks so their events can be effectively listed in our platform. The LinkUp team is grateful as ever for all the support and acceptance it is gaining from various satkeholders.

The LinkUP Addis team would like to wish all a Happy New Year!

We have heard a number of singles from you since the past year, most notably “WorkeZebo”. When will you be releasing your second studio album? What will you be naming it?

I can’t say for sure, but I can guess it’ll be out by then. The thing when you’re producing an album is, as you listen to the songs again and again, you will catch some things that you might want removed or remedied. It’s a long process but as of now, I have 10 tracks scheduled for what I believe will be a 12 track album. About the name: I have one in mind but I

A GO TO DESTINATION FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO EXPAND THEIR NETWORK AND HAVE A GREAT TIME DOING SO

20 Linkup Addis Ababa September 01, 2018 [Cinema] Kidus Tamiru Mission: Impossible - Fallout Directed by: Christopher McQuarrie Runtime: 147 minutes Starring: Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames

The sixth installment in the MI series follows Ethan Hunt and his team as they try to track down and stop a mysterious terrorist organization from building nuclear weap- ons. The mission impossible films have always been about high-octane action rather than interesting plots or character development, and Fallout seems to fully embrace that notion to great effect. What it lacks in an original story, it makes up for by its spectacular action scenes and great performances. As an action film, this could be the best installment in the MI series to date. Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote the film as well as directing, did a great job in both regards, far better than the previous MI film he directed. The cast, especially Tom Cruise, were all well-suited to their respective roles. So if you’re a big fan of realistic fist fight scenes, gun fights, car chases, helicopter chases, Tom Cruise running around and so on, then I suggest you see Mission: Impossible Fallout on the big screen.

Aand Hulet Directed by: Alazar Salelign Runtime: 105 minutes Starring: Tariku Birhanu, Tezera Lema, Hiwot Getahun

Aand Hulet revolves around the story of Yehun, a quirky introvert who can’t function in society, his tight knit family and a woman he gets involved with. For the most part, this film is very entertaining as a comedy, with the lead character and his father being the main sources of the jokes. Both actors are well cast in their roles, with Tairku Birhanu as the unpredictable drunk with a “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” type of personality and Tezera Lema as the well intentioned patriarch of a dysfunctional family. But as a family drama or romance, it doesn’t bring anything remotely new to the table. The tear jerking and the temporary break ups have been used too many times in films to have any real effect anymore. And the plot has one to many unlikely coincidences. But these shortcomings are not nearly bad enough to ruin the film. So unless you’re in the mood for a film with an unpredictable ending, I think you’ll find this film funny or at the least, entertaining.

Linkup Addis Ababa September 01, 2018 21 IndieAddis Screening

ddis indie is a free monthly film A screening event which focuses on independent and art house films from around the world. Organized jointly by Action Media and IEFTS, it aims to develop and inspire the emerging filmmakers of Ethiopia. The event also screens short Ethiopian films before the feature presen- tation. The screening is curated by Hiwot Getaneh and Henok Mebratu, both of whom are independent filmmakers whose works have been recognized by many festivals around the world.

As to why they chose to screen only inde- pendent and art house films for the event, it is because the low budget, amateur cast and simple setups of these films is what most Ethiopian filmmakers have at their disposal. The point is to remind people that film is not only a multi-million-dollar, A-list cast filled art form. Sometimes all it takes to make a great film is a great story and a dedicated cast and crew. The event also helps people to network and meet new people with simi- lar interests and taste. So, whether you’re a film buff, an aspiring or experienced film maker, somebody who’s sick of mindless blockbusters or you just wanted to know what an “art house” film is, Addis Indie screens films you won’t get to see anywhere else every month for free. So Was Screened Last Tuesday of August far, the event has been being held on the last Tuesday of every month at Century Mall at 6PM.
