Daniel 12:3 29 April 7, 2008 SUBJECT: 1 He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God Micah 6:8 Hello Everyone, We share with you activities to support the Virtue for the month of April - “Justice”. Additional activities and prayers are also posted on the home page of our web site at www.tcdsb.org Working in partnership with our parents and parishes, we consistently strive to support students in living the call of their faith. Our hope is that this will result in building just relationships and in lasting peace amongst all. As a Catholic school board, we provide many opportunities for students to participate in building relationships of justice and peace through community partnerships or mission trips of immersion and service. These trips at times lead to travelling to other parts of the world with the goal of enhancing the lives of the less fortunate. The gospel mandate to "do justice" is also evident through the many community service programs provided by our schools through their involvement in their immediate and wider community. Dennis Murphy recently wrote, “If the Catholic education system hopes to have continued support and public funding, what we need is a clear account not simply of what this system does for the Catholic community, but how it contributes to public life”. Catholic education continually promotes social and moral responsibility through our social teachings of the Church and through the many social justice activities. Our teaching combined with our outreach activities, allow students to grow in awareness of social justice issues. It re-affirms our beliefs that all humans have dignity; each person deserves to be valued, and to always treat one another with respect and compassion. Through the leadership of so many in our schools and the learning opportunities granted to our students, we are proud and re-assured on a daily basis that our students are actively engaged in activities in their school and their communities that regularly “contributes to public life”. We trust that the suggested activities, which can be found on our web site, will assist you with planning your Justice Virtue activities. We thank you for your continued commitment to allow students to express themselves through a variety of methods while focused on the monthly Virtue. “If you want peace, work for justice” Henry Louis Mencken Kevin Kobus Director of Education You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the World. Matt. 5:13, 14 THE DIRECTOR’S BULLETIN Those who teach will shine like stars for all eternity. Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise on the third day… You are my witnesses of these things.” Alleluia! Cf Luke 24:35-48 You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the World. Matt. 5:13, 14 THE DIRECTOR’S BULLETIN Those who teach will shine like stars for all eternity. Daniel 12:3 29 April 7, 2008 SUBJECT: 4 In recognition of our volunteers, the Toronto Catholic District School Board thanks you for your commitment to the students in our Catholic schools. Your willingness to share your knowledge and your time is a testament to our Mission: “In a school community formed by Catholic beliefs and traditions, our Mission is to educate students to their full potential.” …leadership is the shared responsibility for education that exists among schools, students, families, parishes and the community… Your involvement and support is vital to the success of our Catholic school communities. To our: parents, grandparents, friends & neighbours volunteering their precious time in our libraries, offices and classrooms WE SALUTE YOU!
