Hyde Sets Career Highs  RB Carlos Hyde set new single-game career-highs in both recepts. (9) and rec. yds. (84).  Hyde’s 9 recepts. are the most in a single-game by a 49ers running back since 9/26/10 (RB Frank Gore – 9 recepts. for 102 yds. at KC).

Rock On  QB C.J. Beathard completed 24 of 51 atts. for 294 yds., including a career-long 55-yd. completion to WR Marquise Goodwin.  Beathard also had 3 carries for 16 yds. and 1 TD, marking his 2nd rushing TD of the season [1 rushing TD vs. Dal. (10/22/17)].

Bourne Identity  WR Kendrick Bourne registered his first career recept. on a 25-yd. pass from QB C.J. Beathard. Bourne finished the day with 2 recepts. for 39 yds.

Red Zone Reid  S Eric Reid picked off Cardinals QB Drew Stanton in the end zone, marking his first INT of the season and the 9th of his career.

49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Press Conference – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

How is QB C.J. Beathard doing and why did he get hit so many times today? “They brought a lot of pressures. We had to throw away too much and a lot of times it had to do with the pressures. A lot of times it had to do with a couple missed blocks and sometimes there wasn’t anybody open down field.”

Is there any thought of putting QB Jimmy Garoppolo in there or was that not going to happen today? “No, that wasn’t going to happen today and even if that was a possibility, he wasn’t getting hit because of C.J. I was pretty impressed with how … that he made it through it.”

How much, if at all, has your play calling changed just for the fact that you’re trying not to get C.J. killed over the course of the game? “It changes a lot. I mean, it changes throughout the game, especially when you lose a fullback, two tight ends, your 11-personnel slot receiver. It was kind of every quarter having to adjust to certain things just personnel wise, what you can do. It changes everything up when you lose those different key spots.”

You talked before about C.J.’s toughness. Did it show you a new dimension today? “He’s shown it to me every time he’s played. He showed it in college a lot. It was one of the things that I liked about him the most. He showed a ton of it last week and it didn’t get any easier this week. There was some that he missed, especially that one at the end bouncing off of [LT] Trent’s [Brown] helmet. But, I thought C.J. did a lot of good things today, too. I think it could have looked a lot better for him if we caught a lot of those balls also.”

Did you see the hits affecting him at all? Does he seem timid at any point or anything like that? “That’s what’s so impressive to me about him. I think those hits affect almost everybody. I haven’t seen them affect him.”

Obviously, you’ll know more after seeing the tape, how’d you think OL Trent Brown looked at left tackle from your vantage point? “I don’t sit and watch a tackle too much. I know we had a lot of pressure on us. I know for sure he missed one early in the game on a pressure, but I’ll have to see on the film. It didn’t look like offensively any of us did very well.”

This was the first time LB Reuben Foster played a full game. What did you see from him? “When I looked up, I saw him make some plays. I was pretty involved with some of the situations we had on offense today, so I wasn’t locked into every situation on defense. I saw him make some plays and I thought our defense gave us a chance to win that game. I was glad Reuben was able to make it through. I know he went down at one time in the game. Just some lingering effects of his high ankle sprain, which will probably continue to bother him throughout the year. But, I was glad to see him come back and finish it.”

You said the defense gave you a chance to win. What’d you see from them in particular? They stripped RB Adrian Peterson at the end of the game to get the ball back for the offense. What’d you see from the defense? “Yeah, the two turnovers they got were good and when you’re not doing much offensively to still be in it in the fourth quarter means they were giving you a chance. I know they ended up getting some runs going, increasing it, but I thought we made them work pretty hard to get down field. I thought they kept us in the game a while and we just weren’t able to answer.”

The offense has struggled for the third game in a row. Why hasn’t the offense been able to make some strides the last few weeks? “I think we’ve been changing up our people the last few weeks, too. We’ve got a lot of different guys going in there. Happened throughout this game. We’ll see how that ends up being next week. We’ve had some challenges on us and I know a lot of teams are banged up this year. Obviously, we are. I thought we had a few opportunities in that game to move the ball and get some points. When we did, ended up getting a sack the next one. After the big one to [WR] Marquise [Goodwin], I think it was about a 55-yard gain. We ended up getting a holding call the next one. I believe followed by a sack, which led us to a field goal. I was happy with how we responded in the third quarter, coming out, getting a . Then when I thought the defense had a few key stops, one in particular, I thought we were going to get some momentum going our way. Started out the drive with a couple drops too, which held us back. We’ve been struggling on third down most of the year, so it’s been hard to overcome some of these situations.”

How significant are the injuries to S Jaquiski Tartt and FB Kyle Juszczyk? “Pretty significant. Tartt I think broke his arm, so I think it’s going to be similar to what happened to [DB] Jimmie [Ward]. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t go on IR. I know Juice was a neck issue, so you never know exactly with that. I think that happened, I think it was the second quarter. Maybe early third. But, we’ll have to MRI him and find out more tomorrow.”

When you have a situation like you did with the fight breaking out there. How do you want your players to handle that between protecting their quarterback and maybe not going over the line to maybe ejections? “There’s a very fine line. I want our guys to be smart. I know [RB] Carlos [Hyde] is the one who ended up getting ejected. I didn’t see Carlos throw a punch. I don’t know exactly what he did. I did see him get punches get thrown at him. I did see him get knocked over a couple times. I really loved how he went and got our quarterback’s back. I thought our quarterback had a couple helmets to the head when he was in the pocket a few plays before and then he ended up scrambling and sliding and he got one again. I think our players had had enough.”

The injuries, the rash of injuries here, does that make you more cautious when you look at how you want to incorporate Garoppolo in the offense? “Yes, of course. You’ve got a bunch of guys out there and you’re trying to get through it. To just throw out a quarterback who has had three practices with extremely limited reps, who doesn’t know your offense, that’s kind of an unfair position to put him in.”

Has this maybe prolonged, with all the injuries today, has that prolonged, maybe even give him a longer look? “I’m looking week-to-week right now. It definitely doesn’t make it easier. We’ll see how these injuries pan out tomorrow. Hopefully we’ll know more tomorrow. We’ll give the players Tuesday off. We’ll get to practice Wednesday. We’ll see how practice Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday goes. Hopefully we can get healthier. I know we have a bye week the next week, so hopefully that will add some too. But, we’ve got two quarterbacks on our roster. I’d love to give both of them the chance to play this year. I’d love to get Jimmy in eventually, but it’s a lot that’s going to factor into that. Hopefully we can get healthy and hopefully we give Jimmy a chance to pick this stuff up as he goes.”

In the two-minute drill, C.J. seemed to get rid of the ball faster, it seemed to be a little safer for him. Did you talk to him about getting rid of the ball faster? “No, it depends what coverages they’re playing. What the looks are. He had a couple quick game looks, where you get rid of it fast and they’re open fast. We had a few quick game looks in the first half, where he tried to get rid of it as fast as possible and got hit before that. Just really how the plays pan out and the coverages they’re playing. Sometimes they soften up a little bit in two minute, but I think that was just how it worked out.”

With all these injuries, do you think you’re getting enough of a view of your roster or are you going to live with what you have right now? “We definitely did for a while and now it’s a lot of guys are getting opportunities to play that you’re hoping to have more time to develop them. It’s a huge opportunity for some of the guys. Some of the receivers you’ve seen out. Some of the tight ends the last couple of weeks, O-Linemen. There’s been guys getting opportunities. When we lost those five close ones, you look at the team and you can see alright these guys are getting a lot better and we’re going to get there. A lot of those guys you’ve missed. So, you’ve had some guys come up who’ve gotten opportunities to play and I do think it helps you, whether they’re going to be starters next year or whether they’re going to be rotational players. The main thing is that we’ve got to add to our team, the people that are out there starting and to the depth off of it. Everyone goes through an NFL season, everyone has injuries. We need to build this the right way, so when you do have injuries that you have people who can step up and play. That’s what we’re going through right now. Hopefully these guys who are playing now and getting some opportunities that they maybe wouldn’t have had if we’d stayed healthy. Hopefully that will make them better and give us some more depth going into next year.”

Adrian Colbert went in for Tartt when he went out. How did he do? “From what I’ve seen, Adrian has done a good job. I know one play in particular I saw today, the quarterback tried to look him off pretty good. They threw a go route towards our sidelines and Adrian showed some very good range on it and went over there and broke it up. I’ve seen him play physical. I know he’s done a good job on special teams. The opportunities that he has had when he’s gone in on defense, he’s done well. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. It’s sounding like with Tartt’s broken arm, it sounds like he’s going to have some more opportunities going forward too. So, hopefully he continues to get better.”

49ers QB C.J. Beathard Press Conference – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

To get hit so many times, what is it like to physically go through that? “In the middle of a game your adrenaline is kind of going. So, it’s not until tonight, tomorrow, I really feel those hits. Physically, sometimes some are worse than others. Sometimes they hurt. Sometimes they don’t.”

You ever think, ‘Okay maybe I need to step out for a couple plays here’? “No. I usually know if it’s something real serious, bad, that I need to step out. I felt like I could stay in and be alright.”

You had some drops as well. Were you frustrated at all in the game? “Yeah, it’s frustrating. Anytime you lose, it stinks. We just got to go back and look at the tape, look at the film and see what we can learn from and where we can do better.”

Head Coach Kyle Shanahan said he was proud that your teammates got your back on that slide play. What did you feel about that? “That’s awesome they had my back. I knew they would. Guys like [RB] Carlos [Hyde]. It stinks that he got ejected but it shows he’s got my back. I really appreciate that and so does all the other guys that went at them as well.

You took a forearm under the chin on that one. Is that probably the most painful hit you had today? “No. Actually, the most painful hit wasn’t even really a hit. It was when I was throwing, I hit somebodies helmet with my thumb. That was the most painful thing. My neck got twisted around on the false start. That one didn’t feel great.”

That’s the one where you hit the guys helmet? “No, that’s not the one. I’m talking about a different one now.”

On the last , it bounces off WR Trent Taylor helmet. Were you trying to kill that one? “I was just trying to get it in the ground, yeah. Just throw it away.”

The offense scored 10 points for the third game in a row. What’s preventing you from taking strides the last few weeks? “The opportunities are there, we just aren’t making them. Dallas, we were in the red zone a couple times, fumbled. Today, we got down there then we had a penalty that kicked us back. We just got to be able to finish. We’re moving the ball, we just got to be able to finish drives and get the points on the board.”

We’ve seen quarterbacks in this league, especially young ones, get kind of shell-shocked after getting hit so often. How do you stop that from happening and keep your confidence up even though you’re getting sacked and getting hit? “That’s one thing. I’m not afraid of getting hit. So, that won’t affect me. It never has. I’m tough and I’ve been able to take things. Obviously if I’m injured then I won’t force myself in there but as of now I haven’t been injured.”

QB Jimmy Garoppolo is the back-up. What was the communication like on the sideline with him? “It was good. He was real supportive, helping me out, and talking with the quarterbacks coach. Whenever I wanted to warm-up, throw, he was there and ready to throw. He was helpful.”

49ers LB Elvis Dumervil Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

How did you feel about your defense today? “In this league you either win or lose. Give them credit. It was a better team today. We’ll go back and watch the film and see how we can get better.”

You’ve been around a long time but chances are you’ve never been in the situation this team is in this year. How tough is that to stay positive and keep going? “You have no choice, you’ve got to stay positive. It’s not like we want to go out and lose. We’ve just got to play a lot better. Give the Cardinals credit, they were a better team today.”

Do you take a little bit of solace in the fact that out of any number of reasons this team could pack it in, it doesn’t feel like you guys are doing that, especially on defense. “It’s a team game. All three phases: special teams, offense and defense. Collectively, we lost today.”

That being said, how important is it for you to get a win to kind of validate all that hard work? “I think week in and week out we’re going to come out and compete. That’s the goal is to get a win. Today we made plays but there were a few plays they made before us and that’s why they were victorious.”

Is it kind of hard to believe all of the injuries? It’s like week after week it’s something new. “It’s part of football. I’m sure the other 31 teams are dealing with it. We don’t feel sorry for ourselves. We have professionals here. We’ve just got to get the job done. We’ve got the Giants and we’re onto them.”

49ers LB Reuben Foster Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Did you get banged up a little early? “It was just a nick. Injuries don’t recover right then and there. Thank God that it wasn’t too serious. I just recovered back.”

Was it the high ankle sprain that re-occurs every now and then? “Yes. It scared me for a minute, but it is like a shoulder it feels like it is gone but you still have a little nick. All it can do is just get better if you just rehab and listen to the doctors.”

You seemed to be flying around the field and it didn’t seem to bother you or affect your speed. Do you feel like you are as fast as you have been? “Yes. I feel great. I feel blessed. I am not injured or hurting. I feel good. I just want to go out there and do it for the fellas.”

How important was it for you to be able to finish a game? “It was very important from a mind standpoint. I have been hurt for the two games that I started. It is bad luck. You just can’t ask God for no injuries or to not get hurt but if it happens it happens. I am happy that I finished the game all four quarters. ”

What was it like to have some violent collisions against a future Hall of Famer in Arizona Cardinals RB Adrian Peterson? “I felt good hitting him. That is one of the greats. I watched him when I thought about playing football. To play against him, you know that he has some good wisdom under his belt. He is tricky. He has the vet moves. He did a great job today and I was honored to play against him.”

49ers OL Brandon Fusco Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

What do think of the way that San Francisco 49ers QB C.J. Beathard kind of hung in there? “I’m proud of him, how he has handled himself. As an O-line we haven’t done our job well enough. That starts with me, that starts with anyone. We have to be better. We have to watch the film and get better from this. We have a good team in front of us in the Giants. We have a big challenge ahead of us.”

Can you take any solace in knowing that you guys stayed in this game and you were fighting right up until the end? “Yes. This team is always going to fight no matter what the score is. I thought we came in with a good game plan. We knew that it was going to be close. We just have to find a way to make more plays and move the ball. As an offensive line it starts with us and we have to be better.”

49ers WR Marquise Goodwin Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Was today another rough day at the office? “It was another rough day, but I still come out smiling though. At the end of the day I just have to do better.”

What affect does it have on a team when you have a rhythm but then there’s a dropped pass or a misfire that takes the wind out of the sails? “Critical drops. I dropped a first down ball that I make 100 percent of the time. Well, obviously not. I just have to do better, especially with [49ers WR] Pierre [Garçon] out. I just have to do a better job of being complete the whole game. I can’t be sporadic. We fought and we played hard. We just have to execute. People want to make it about us being young, but the league doesn’t care about it and the fans don’t care about it. We just need wins for the great coaches that we have and our great GM and great owner. They treat us so well here. We just have to do better. That’s it.”

In your opinion, what was the difference in the game? “The difference in the game was the offense converting and staying on the field and penalties. It’s the same thing every week. It’s the same story. We just have to get better from that. I know how, which is to not false start or to not get a holding or to not drop a ball in a critical time. Self-inflicted wounds. They didn’t go out there and beat our heads in. We did it to ourselves each week. That comes from guys like me, this is my fifth year, having to step up and assuming that role. I have to do a better job at that. I have to do a better job helping my quarterback. He’s young. This is my fifth year in the league, and this is his first. I have experience over him. I have to be the person to make him better and make everybody else better. Then all the other stuff won’t matter.”

So many of you guys have never been in a situation like this before where you’re 0-9. How do you keep trying to find something potentially positive out of this eventually? “There will be plenty of positive to come out of it. How do you get to that point is just faith. You have to have strong faith. You have to believe in something, and you have to believe in each other. We do. That’s why we come out each week. We’re not coming out losing the game already. We come out with the mentality to win. We just have to execute that. We have to be that. That has to become a part of us. We haven’t quite gotten there yet.”

49ers S Eric Reid Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

What did you see from San Francisco 49ers DB Adrian Colbert early on? “He played how we thought that he would. He hit the holes hard and made sure we stayed disciplined in our gaps and if we weren’t, he was going to find the open one. He did exactly that.”

How do you think the defense played overall today? “Not good enough. Once again we didn’t get enough turnovers to give our offense enough opportunities with the ball. We got a couple but we needed another one.”

Did you see improvement today? They only had one long-scoring drive for the touchdown. “We are battling, which is encouraging but this is the NFL and no one cares if we are trying hard. We just have to get the job done.”

Take us through the pick in the endzone. “We practiced that route. It was a tendency that we knew, so great job by our defensive quality control guys and assistant coaches of getting us that play. I was just able to make a play on what we practiced.”

You looked very comfortable moving back to safety. Did it feel pretty comfortable for you? “Yes. The cool part about it is that now I know what everyone is doing. I know what the linebackers have and we can communicate better. I know there issues. At the end of the day, I think that the move helped me.”

Cardinals Head Coach Bruce Arians Press Conference – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Opening comments: “Alright again, I never apologize for winning. We kind of made that closer at the end than we needed to, but I’m pleased with getting turnovers. I didn’t like the last one we had. I got greedy on [Arizona Cardinals QB] Drew [Stanton] down there on that interception trying to force it in there. [Arizona Cardinals TE] Jermaine [Gresham], he just caught a really good one and it was really close. But again, 37 carries for [Arizona Cardinals RB] Adrian [Peterson]. The ball’s not very heavy. We’ve got a walk- through this week, so he’ll get plenty of rest and get ready for Thursday night. But, defensively we caused some turnovers. Early there was a big one obviously, when [Arizona Cardinals S] Tyrann [Mathieu] knocked that ball out after we marched down there and missed another field goal with a low snap. But, those things we fought to overcome this time. And that’s a nice step forward.”

It seemed if you had to script out ahead of time the things you guys were talking about doing, have a solid defensive effort, feed Adrian, let Drew do what Drew normally does, it seemed like it really worked out exactly how you’d--? “Yeah, other than our two turnovers. You know, we missed a field goal, we gave up points on the interception and obviously we made the game closer than it should have been with that last .”

What’s it say about a 32-year old running back that you can give him the ball 37 times? “It’s amazing, absolutely amazing and he wouldn’t come out. As I said I tried to get [Arizona Cardinals RB] Kerwynn [Williams] and he said, ‘I’m good. I’m good.’ And so yeah, it was, he’s in unbelievable shape, and we’ll see how he feels Monday and Tuesday. But, I wish we had a full week. Obviously, we won’t be able to feed him that many times in that Thursday night that quickly.”

How much did he do for Drew tonight? How much did he do for Drew carrying the ball that much? “I don’t, it was give and take. Drew was really good. We dropped some balls that we shouldn’t have dropped on third down early in this game. And you know, we can play better for him. He played pretty solid.”

There were five sacks and 16 quarterback hits. How happy were you with the constant pressure? “I thought we should have had more. That was a beat up offensive line and God bless [San Francisco 49ers QB C.J.] Beathard, he’s tough. He’s tough as nails and stood in there and threw the ball, because we hit him a bunch.”

Did you come into this thinking, you know, if this game goes right I want to feed Adrian, not necessarily 37 times, but--? “Yeah, I mean we wanted to run the ball and I liked our matchups outside. We started to gain with one and we still have to play a little bit better. I think 44 percent on third down, we should be in that 55 range and then we’re going to be pretty solid. Red zone we’ve got to throw it better down there and we missed a couple plays down there.”

Aside from winning the game, did you see what you wanted to coming out of the bye-week? “Yeah, yeah, I saw a lot of fight, and I saw the adversity that has been killing us and it didn’t stop us. You know, right back after we get the turnover, going to score a touchdown on an unbelievable play by Drew. You know, they snuffed it out, he makes a great play to [Arizona Cardinals WR] Jaron [Brown] and I think that really, that catalyst that we didn’t have to kick a field goal was huge for our team.”

How will you handle that scuffle that happened out on the field? “Next game. Crap happens. It’s not college. You don’t get kicked out again next week.”

What do you do at kicker going forward when you have another miss, especially first drive of the game? “Well it was a bad snap, it was a bad snap.”

Cardinals QB Drew Stanton Press Conference – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

You went into this game wanted to run the ball. What does it say about a 32-year-old running back who can carry it 37 times? “He’s not a normal 32-year-old running back. I think we all knew what he was capable of. We saw that from day one when he got here. We talked about it when we were in London, he is a Hall of Famer for a reason and he’s got a lot left in the tank and he said that and now he’s backed it up multiple times. We came in here and wanted to run the ball. I think that’s what you talk about within this offense all the time [Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians] BA alludes to it we need to be able to run the football, in physical play action, and reduce shots.”

You guys seem like you had a pretty specific plan of how you wanted to do this game and it seemed like it played out on all sides of the ball that you wanted to do? “It did, yeah. This is a good football team and still scratching to find its first win but they play hard for four quarters. We knew it was going to be a dog fight. They’ve been dealt with so many injuries but they keep plugging guys in there, playing hard and doing stuff. For us to be able to come in here and get that kind of ground game going, it just opens up the play-action pass and allows us to do stuff, push the ball down the field. I got a little greedy on one that, you know, I had a little bit of hesitation and it cost me.”

Was that the one to Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham? “It was. I pressed outside and that was one of the things we were trying to get all day against these guys. Because they have big physical corners we felt like we could run by them. Case and point the very first play of the game we knew we were going to take a shot trying to get that. On that interception, I kind of got caught in between, was trying to hold the safety and figure out if I wanted to throw that one- on-one pass to [ Arizona Cardinals WR Jaron Brown] JB up the sideline on the go, and left it a little bit too far outside for Jermaine. I know that’s something that I have to learn from and just continue to progress with this offense.”

Is this what we are going to see as long as you’re behind center, that run first mentality? “I think the league is a run first mentality. Everyone wants to run the football. It’s just a matter of if you can. We’re healthy enough on the offensive line, those guys did a tremendously job and it makes their job easier. When we run the football I don’t think we had any sacks today, did we? I was going to say, so that’s all you can ask for. Those guys played extremely well and that balance allows us to do a lot of different things.”

On a personal level, what you wanted to do worked out well given the time you had to practice was a lot different than London. “The game plan was fantastic. I loved it. I loved every single part of it. Each day we got to install, I was getting more and more excited for what was going on and the red zone package was great. I loved that and the first and ten calls. That’s the beauty of BA, like I’ve talked about before. He puts so much in the quarterback’s hands because he wants us to feel comfortable. He has enough confidence in his system that overall it’s going to be successful. He’s just going to let us dictate the avenues that we go down and he will kind of weave and feel the course of the game as we’re going on and what we’re trying to do.”

It’s the middle of the game, but do you feel any empathy for at all for your counterpart on the other side when he’s running for his life, he got hit 16 times and sacked five? “Yeah, I went up to him and just told him I have a lot of respect for him. That’s one thing that I’ve learned in 11 years of being in this league. Everybody’s going to get hit. It’s the guys that get back up when you get punched in the mouth and you keep coming back, especially in this position because there’s many guys that can throw a spiral that can do stuff that can look pretty and get it when the pocket is clean. But, when there’s live bullets coming at you and you stand in there and make throws, it’s hard. You want to be gun shy, you got to sit there and be like ‘Alright this is why I don’t get hit Monday through Saturday.’ So, these guys running free at me I got to try to make a play. That’s typically where you’re going to find your big plays is that split second decision, ‘Okay, I have to try to fit it in here even though I know this guy is barreling down at me.’”

Winning here last year was a big moment for you. How is this year different knowing this is an open-ended thing, knowing it’s going to stretch over weeks? “I think that I look at it as it’s not going to stretch over weeks. I look at it one week at a time, trying to get a football win and kind of have amnesia of, ‘Okay I just have to go through my routine, this routine I’ve trusted throughout my career, that I have relied on for a long period of time and it’s been great.’ From my standpoint, I know I don’t have all the answers. I’m trying to get as much information throughout the course of the week, and my mind’s constantly working, talking about stuff. That touchdown to Jermaine, I told him Saturday, I said, ‘that ball’s coming to you.’ If it’s a corner he’s going to be off and outside, just get big across his face and then it will come. Those little things make all of the difference in the world. I’ve learned that. Being able to prepare and rely on that quarterback room, that is so fantastic. I’m really lucky to have [Arizona Cardinals quarterbacks coach] Byron [Leftwich], really lucky to have [Arizona Cardinals QB] Carson [Palmer], and even [Arizona Cardinals QB] Blaine [Gabbert], all the starting potential that he has, that he’s had over the course of his career. I lean on everybody because I think that’s how you have a good unit and a good practice down at the field is a cohesive group that works together.”

I know you said earlier in the week that stats don’t matter to you, is there some part of you that would like to complete 65 percent, 300 yards and three ? “I mean, sure but that’s not really in BA’s offense either. I don’t know what my stats are and I don’t care. I know I had two touchdowns and one interception and I’d like to have that interception back.”

Did you remember the read option, calling that third down, third short when you--? “You saw the speed right? Getting in I was like, ‘Oh gosh.’ I didn’t know if he was going to call it and I saw that will plug right there I was like, ‘Oh good all I have to do is make this end miss and hopefully I can outrun this end.’ I had [Arizona Cardinals TE] Troy [Niklas] out there blocking for me as well.”

When was the last time you ran that play in a game? “When was my last year at, 2007 at Michigan State, 2006 at Michigan State. I used to be fast too, 10 years ago.”

Did they have run-option back then? “Oh yeah, I rushed for like 100 yards at Michigan State way back when.”

Cardinals S Antoine Bethea Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Do you think the defense got its swag back today, which you guys were missing at times this year? “Yes. At times. There were some plays we should make. We got some turnovers today that helps Pat [Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson] get one, Los [Arizona Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby] get one. Getting some sacks, getting to the quarterback. We’ve just got to keep building on that.”

Do you think the fumble bounced your way finally? “Yes. We have had a couple of early this year and the other team would recover them. If we can continue to get turnovers, that can change the game for us.”

For Karlos Dansby to get his 20th interception, what does that mean for him? “That is big. I think he is only one of five people in NFL history to do so. That is huge. He is one of our leaders, and he continues to make plays for us.”

Is it an advantage facing your former team? “No, there is no advantage. At the end of the day, it is X’s and O’s and I have to go out and play.”

You now have won two games on the road against former teams in the Colts and now the 49ers. Is it any sweeter winning against your former teams? “No, not really. A win is a win regardless of who we play, as long as we get that win.”

Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Talk about getting your 20th interception. “That was perfect timing. He threw it right of his offensive lineman’s helmet. It flipped in the air I said to myself, ‘Man, it can’t be that easy to get 20.’ It is perfect, it is perfect timing, a perfect scenario, the stage was set. God is good, that is all I can say.”

How important was this win? It got a little dicey right there at the end. “It got heated, we needed that. Unfortunately, it was the circumstances that led to that. With the hit on the quarterback and what not. We aren’t trying to hurt anybody out there, we are just playing hard.”

Do you think that is missing from this team? That swagger, that passion. Do you think that is good to see? “That is what I was talking about at the beginning of the week. That we got to have that passion and be able to come out and fight and do whatever it takes to win. We did that today.”

What does 20 say? “Man! It should say a lot. Especially for this being further along in my career for me to be able to stand the test of time. I have been playing this game for 14 years. I have played it for a decade. I have seen the evolution of the game and how it is changing. For me to be able to still have success and be successful on the field, all praises go to God for that one. He gave me a great gift and I am just trying to use it.”

Is Canton the word you were looking for? “Canton? It is a great group of guys that I am in a class with right now. Forty plus sacks and 20 interceptions, that is hard to do. I am looking forward to some of these young guys talking to me and taking it to the next level.”

Did that interception hang up there forever? “Forever and a day. I just had to make a play on it. Perfect timing, perfect scenario, and get off the field.”

Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

What did you like about that win? Where do you start? What did you like the most? “The commitment to the run game was all day. It wasn’t always a big run, but it was consistent. To be able to win the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball was good. It’s something you have to do consistently in the NFL.”

Thirty-seven carries for Arizona Cardinals RB Adrian Peterson was a career high for him. Did you see that coming? “He’s probably going to get 37 again on Thursday. He’s going to get a heavy dose again. That’s why they call him ‘All Day.’ He can tote it all day and we’re very fortunate to have a back with his experience and explosiveness in our backfield.”

Is this a new identity for this offense? “Not having [Arizona Cardinals QB] Carson [Palmer] and [RB] David [Johnson] and having guys in roles they didn’t start the season with, to say it’s our new identity, I don’t know. If it is, that’s a good thing.”

What did you think of Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton’s day? “Drew had a great day. He hung in there. He extended some plays. The play he made on the first touchdown in the red zone, he bought some time and waited for [Arizona Cardinals WR] Jaron [Brown] to get open. He was really good at extending plays and made some really good throws. He had great command of the system all day.”

How about Arizona Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby getting that pick? “I’ve been with Karlos for 14 years. To be able to see him get that was something I know he wanted to do for quite a while. For me to be able to see it, witness it and do it against a division foe, was a special moment.”

You guys are now 4-4 through eight games. How would you evaluate where the team is right now? “We’re just an average football team. Four-and-four says it all. We’ve got to continue to build on it. If we want to be a team that’s going to be contender, it’s going to be a big one on Thursday. We’ve got a quick turnaround and it’s a must-win at home if we want a shot.”

Cardinals RB Adrian Peterson Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he tried to get you out of the game a couple times, but you wouldn’t go. “No, no. I just wanted to show those guys that I’m not going to be tired and stand there selfishly. I know when I’m good and when I need one. So, I came out one time because I needed it. It felt good to get in there, get into a groove and keep pounding the rock.”

What is it like to have a new career high? Thirty-two. “It is what it is. I really wasn’t thinking about it. I felt like I was getting up there in the thirties, so I was kind of gauging it. I felt good, felt fresh, and my legs felt good. The guys were doing great up front pushing the line of scrimmage. It was like whatever it takes to get this ‘W.’ Especially after the fumble, you’ve got to lock back in, put that behind you, and keep pounding.”

It seems like everyone leaves, you slam your hand on the ground. You just pop back up, looking at coach to feed you the ball more. “It wasn’t even that, about feeding me the ball. It was missed opportunities. I know there’s a lot of running backs that are probably retired and sitting back watching 5this game, it was easily 100 and something yards that was left out there. Great tackles by them, shoe lace missed opportunities on my end. Offensive line didn’t really count for too many. I know there was a couple they said, and came back saying ‘I got to stay on this guy.’ It’s all the adversity you go through in a four quarter game. You just keep working and that’s one thing, I have to take my hat to those guys. They got knocked on their butt, and got up and came back and that’s what we needed as an offense that sort of passion, and grit for four quarters.”

How much do you appreciate being the focal point of the offense again here? “I appreciate it, but for me it’s all about just going out there and contributing to the calls. With that, I am the focal point. For me, it’s the talent that God blessed me with, being out there, and using it. It feels good being in a position I’m able to do that.”

As an elite athlete, what drives you? “There’s a lot of things, winning a championship, that drives me. I know there’s a lot of young guys like [San Francisco 49ers LB] Reuben [Foster], sitting and talking to that youngster and seeing the passion that he was saying, “Oh man, I played against you.’ That’s inspiring to me, because I’m in a position that shows guys you can play as long as you want. Don’t let people put you in a box. People around the world have followed me and followed my story and they hear what people say about me, but they don’t know anything about me. Being in a position God blessed me to be in to just to be an inspiration for people that’s what I enjoy the most.”

Cardinals T Jared Veldheer Postgame Quotes – November 5, 2017 San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals RB Adrian Peterson got 37 carries at age 32? “Yeah, that’s awesome. It’s great having him. That’s the guy who can do that. It really helps out with what we want to do on offense.”

How much pressure does a performance like that take off Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton and the offense? “It gives the whole offense confidence. As a whole, it takes our game to where we want it to be. To have a guy be able to pound it like that and do what he can do is awesome. As a lineman, you enjoy blocking for someone like that.”

What does it say about a person who is 32 and can carry the ball like that? “You have to be a pretty gritty person to do something like that. You have to have an incredible will to win and want to carry the team like that. It’s awesome that he’s doing it.”

How did you guys feel about bouncing back after a pretty tough loss a few weeks ago and then have the Bye to regroup? “We have a lot of season in front of us. No one is looking backwards. We’re just looking forward to this game and being able to get a win and we were able to do that.”
