Seasonal Variations in Zooplankton Species of Lake Gölhisar, a Shallow Lake in Burdur, Turkey Meral Apaydın Yağcı* Fisheries Research Station, 32500, Eğirdir, Isparta, Turkey Abstract.- Seasonal variations of zooplankton species were investigated between Spring 2002 and Winter 2003 in Lake Gölhisar, Burdur, Turkey. A total of 31 species comprising 15 Rotifera (48%), 11 Cladocera (36%), and 5 Copepoda (16%) were recorded. Keratella quadrata, Daphnia longispina and Acanthodiaptomus denticornis were the common species during the study period. Maximum number of taxa were observed from Rotifera and Cladocera during summer, while minimum taxa was determined from Copepoda during winter. Keywords: Rotifera, Cladocera, Copepoda. • Determination of Inorganic Elements in Poppy Straw by Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive Spectrometry As a Means of Ascertaining Origin
Determination of inorganic elements in poppy straw by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectrometry as a means of ascertaining origin E. ÇOPUR Department of Chemistry, Gendarmarie General Command Criminal Laboratory, Ankara, Turkey 4 N. G. GÖGER, and T. ORBEY Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey B. SENER¸ Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey ABSTRACT Cultivation of poppy as a source of opium alkaloids for legitimate medical purposes has a long tradition in Turkey. The main products are poppy straw and concentrate of poppy straw, obtained from dried poppy capsules. The aims of the study reported in the present article were to establish inorganic element profiles for the poppy-growing provinces of Turkey by means of X-ray analysis by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM/EDS) and to explore the potential of the technique for determination of origin. Ten elements (sodium, magnesium, silicon, phosphorus, sulphur, chlorine, potassium, calcium, copper and zinc) were analysed in poppy straw samples from 67 towns in nine provinces. As regards the determination of origin, the most significant finding was the presence of copper and zinc in the poppy straw samples from 8 of the 15 towns in Afyon Province. Since those elements are not normally found in soil, it is assumed that their presence is the result of environmental (industrial) contamination. Differences in the samples from the other eight provinces were less signifi- cant, possibly a result of their geographical proximity. Nevertheless, differences in the samples were apparent. Because the findings are relative rather than absolute in terms of presence or absence of individual inorganic elements, further research is required to convert them into operationally usable results.

“A CORRECT AND PROGRESSIVE ROAD”: U.S.-TURKISH RELATIONS, 1945-1964 Michael M. Carver A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2011 Committee: Dr. Douglas J. Forsyth, Advisor Dr. Gary R. Hess Dr. Marc V. Simon, Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Tiffany Trimmer 1 2011 Michael M. Carver All Rights Reserved ABSTRACT 2 Dr. Douglas Forsyth, Advisor This historical investigation of U.S.-Turkish relations from the end of World War II to 1964 provides a greater understanding of the challenges inherent in the formation and implementation of U.S. policy in Turkey at a time when the Turks embarked on multiparty politics and a determined campaign to become a modern and distinctly European nation through ambitious economic development programs. Washington proved instrumental in this endeavor, providing financial support through the Marshall Plan and subsequent aid programs, and political sponsorship of Turkey’s membership in international organizations such as NATO and the EEC. U.S. policymakers encountered various quandaries as they forged bilateral relations with the Turks, specifically reconciling democratization with Turkey’s development and participation in the containment of communism. The Turkish government under Adnan Menderes demonstrated its reliability as a U.S. ally, providing troops to fight in the Korean War and cooperating in the construction of NATO bases and the modernization of its military, but it came under increasing pressure from the political opposition when its economic policies failed to secure long-term economic growth and stability. Starting in the mid-1950s the Menderes government adopted increasingly authoritarian measures to control dissent, a problematic situation for Washington, as it desired greater Turkish democracy while at them same time did not wish to compromise the growing American military presence in Turkey.

Material and Method: The Brucellosis case notifications, which were made to City Health Administrative between the years 2007 and 2008, and to Burdur Public Heath Administrative since 2009, were evaluated according to the features of the individual, place and time in this descriptive study. The data of the research were evaluated via SPSS for Windows 17 statistical package programme. The nominal data were shown as frequency and percentage. Results: Total number of cases between the years 2007 and 2015 was 493, and 55.2% of the cases were males (n:272) while 44.8% of them were females (n:221). The determination of potential and certain cases began in Burdur in 2009 and most of the certain disease diagnoses were made in 2012 with 71 person (23.2%). Conclusion: Due to the fact that Brucellosis is a very common zoonitic illness, clarification of diagnostic system affects human health in a positive way especially in the areas where the live stock and the illness are intense.

It introduces the legal framework and the stakeholders involved in conducting archaeological excavations and surveys. The current situation in archiving born-digital and digitised documentation produced during archaeological fieldwork is then introduced. Existing repositories serving as hubs for archaeological and heritage archiving are listed and briefly discussed. Analysis of online publishing practices for archaeological digital resources points to an eclectic landscape that only minimally complies with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles. We conclude that guidelines for best practice in metadata and semantic technologies, locally applicable standards (especially controlled vocabularies), technical know-how, and a larger acceptance of open data and scholarship remain much-needed assets for archaeological digital archiving in Turkey. We also conclude that the future promises progress towards more interoperable archaeological digital archives thanks to international training, network and knowledge transfer opportunities (e.g. SEADDA Project). 1.
