TO THE HONORABLE ALISON J. NATHAN: INTRODUCTION In 1999, a teenage college dropout finished writing software for an internet service called Napster that would allow people to swap music stored on their computers. Six months after the service was released, 18 record companies filed a lawsuit to shut it down. Since then, content- sharing websites have proliferated. Listening to music obtained free from others over the internet has become increasingly common; so too have lawsuits that pit corporate copyright owners against emergent online service providers in disputes over the use of copyrighted musical works. This is such a lawsuit. Before the Court is the plaintiff EMI’s motion for summary judgment on its copyright infringement claims against Escape Media Group, which operates the free music-streaming website Grooveshark.com. Like many recent copyright lawsuits against online service providers, this case turns not on whether Grooveshark exploits EMI’s copyrighted works without Case 1:12-cv-06646-AJN-SN Document 90 Filed 05/28/14 Page 2 of 80 authorization, but on whether Escape can secure immunity from monetary liability for any infringing activity under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. After considering the papers submitted in support of and in opposition to EMI’s summary judgment motion, as well as the arguments advanced by the parties at the April 29, 2014 hearing, the Court recommends that EMI’s motion for summary judgment be GRANTED IN PART and DENIED IN PART.

7/14/2016 Every Good Boy Deserves Favour (album) Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Every Good Boy Deserves Favour (album) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Every Good Boy Deserves Favour is the seventh album by The Moody Blues, released in 1971. Every Good Boy Deserves Favour This album featured the only track to be written by all five members of the band. The opening "Procession" was a piece that was intended to describe the history of music from the beginning of time until the album's recording. The only three words heard in this track – "desolation," "creation," and "communication" – were similarly used (along with many other "ation" words) in "One More Time to Live." The album reached #1 on the British album charts, in addition to a threeweek stay at #2 in the United States, and produced one top40 single, "The Story in Your Eyes." The track "Emily's Song" was written by John Lodge for his newborn daughter. Studio album by The Moody Blues Mike Pinder wrote and sang the album's concluding track "My Song". Released 23 July 1971 Recorded November 1970 – March 1971 at The title is taken from the student mnemonic for the lines of the Wessex Sound Studios, London treble clef: EGBDF. These notes are heard played on piano during "Procession." Genre Progressive rock Length 40:05 The album was the last to feature the Mellotron as the sole tape driven instrument, as it would be utilized in conjunction with the Label Threshold Records Chamberlin (another device that uses recorded tape to generate Producer Tony Clarke sound) on the Moody Blues' next studio album, 1972's Seventh The Moody Blues chronology Sojourn.

As a result, these recordings differ in more ways than simply length, because there are “long song” characteristics that distinguish this music. In order to better discuss these characteristics, it was important to develop a method for visually depicting songs in a manner that clearly outlines each groove. These “groove analyses” are used to discuss each piece of music in detail. As a result, groove is a primary point of discussion throughout this study, because most long song characteristics are directly linked to this quality within music. This type of analysis is explained in detail, and afterwards, it is utilized throughout much of the dissertation. It is also hypothetically possible that the structures and techniques in question can impact the listener’s perception of time when used outside of the context of a long song. A simple experiment was run in order to better understand how these concepts influence a person’s sense of duration, and the results were promising and demonstrated trends that merit further research.

Lyrics-based experiments in genre classification Zal´anBODO´ Eszter SZILAGYI´ Babe¸s{Bolyai University, Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science Cluj-Napoca, Romania Cluj-Napoca, Romania email: [email protected] email: [email protected] Abstract. Music information retrieval has lately become an important field of information retrieval, because by profound analysis of music pieces important information can be collected: genre labels, mood prediction, artist identification, just to name a few. The lack of large-scale music datasets containing audio features and metadata has lead to the con- struction and publication of the Million Song Dataset (MSD) and its satellite datasets. Nonetheless, mainly because of licensing limitations, no freely available lyrics datasets have been published for research. In this paper we describe the construction of an English lyrics dataset based on the Last.fm Dataset, connected to LyricWiki's database and MusicBrainz's encyclopedia. To avoid copyright issues, only the URLs to the lyrics are stored in the database. In order to demonstrate the eligi- bility of the compiled dataset, in the second part of the paper we present genre classification experiments with lyrics-based features, including bag- of-n-grams, as well as higher-level features such as rhyme-based and sta- tistical text features. We obtained results similar to the experimental outcomes presented in other works, showing that more sophisticated tex- tual features can improve genre classification performance, and indicating the superiority of the binary weighting scheme compared to tf{idf.

The house was built in 1873 by the architect Edward Barry for his client Charles Combe to replace an earlier one that had been partially destroyed by fire in the late 1860s. Like others before me, I had always assumed that the present Cobham Park and its predecessor stood on the site of Downe Place or Hall, which in medieval times was Cobham's most important estate. However, a recent and more thorough examination of the title deeds of Cobham Park, which remain in private hands, has now proved otherwise. Photographs and paintings of the present house's predecessor have intrigued architectural historians for many years. 18th century topographies and county histories state that the house was built for a man called John Bridges. However, this posed a problem because John Bridges never owned Downe Place. What John Bridges did own was a property called Bridge House Farm, which he had purchased from James Fox in 1729. The Cobham Park estate papers have now revealed a deed of 1749 whereby Bridges conveyed Bridge House Farm to Sir John, later Lord, Ligonier, Commander in Chief of the British Army "together with the Capital Messuage or Mansion House lately erected and built thereon by the said John Bridges." In 1759 Ligonier (by then both Lord and Commander in Chief of the British Army) purchased the neighbouring Downe Place from the Fox family.
