Christmas Theatre trip for 100 pupils of George Eliot Junior School, December 2011 Provider: DreamArts; Cost: £1,000 Christmas theatre trip took place for a new group of George Eliot pupils on 12th December 2011. In addition to seeing the performance, pupils took part in workshops with the actors to explore the themes.

Bryanston & Dorset Square

Enforcement project for the Edgware Road Provider: Westminster Street Management team; Contribution £24,120 Members have jointly funded with Hyde Park ward the following services to tackle the issues which affect the Edgware Road and the surrounding area: • An additional evening patrol will be undertaken each week by a Westminster Warden • Two licensing enforcement officers will patrol for a period of four weeks to gather evidence against premises which are in breach of their licence. • A senior planning enforcement officer will be employed for twelve months to deal with the short term letting issues in the area.

Volunteering project Provider: Fourth Feathers; Cost £4,087.18 This project will offer young people a chance to volunteer supported by Fourth Feathers. This will include providing a lunch for local older people to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee next year.

Churchill

Musical instrument bursary Provider: Academy; Cost: £4,500 The Councillors are purchasing, for the Academy, violins and cellos for use by pupils progressing on the Musictrax programme. The instruments will be loaned to the pupils and can be used for their grade examinations as well.

South Westminster Community Choir Provider: South Westminster Community Choir; Cost: £3,585 This choir started in Churchill Gardens last year and has now grown to encompass most of South Westminster. The Councillors of Churchill, Tachbrook and Warwick wards are all joint funding another year of this project. Golden Oldies Club Provider: CityWest Homes; Cost: £3,000 A club for local older people is run from Churchill Gardens Hall, as well as a regular tea club, the ‘Tea Set’, there are also trips planned throughout the year. Ebury Bridge Gardening Club Provider: Groundwork ; Cost: £6,000 The Councillors are again this year supporting the work of Mike Smith and the Ebury Bridge Gardening Club. Groundwork are supporting the Club to become more self sufficient in the future and helping them to fund raise from other sources.

Westminster Muslim Welfare Trust Activities Provider: Westminster Muslim Welfare Trust; Contribution: £5,000 Ward budget funding is for a joint project between Churchill and Vincent Square wards which has already funded a Summer Trip, and will further fund a weekly programme of Women’s Development Sessions and a cultural event in March. Ebury Bridge Estate Mosaic Provider: Westminster Arts; Cost: £5,000 Westminster Arts worked with over 40 young people on the Ebury Bridge Estate to create a three mosaics which were displayed at the SW1 Gallery in November.

Visiting Women at Work programme Provider: Civitas; Cost: £4,000 Funding will provide an extension to this project which has seen girls from local primary schools visit women in work. Once the pilot is completed a pack will be produced which will allow local schools to carry on this work independently of Civitas and for no cost.

Church Street Bengali Women’s Group (meeting space) Provider: Church Street Library; Cost: £1,300 This funding will enable the Bengali Women’s Group to meet in Church Street Library for a year.

Supplementary school (rent) Provider: Lisson Green and Church Street Arab Association; Cost: £3,100 This funding covers the rent payable to Gateway School for the hire of classrooms on a Sunday for the supplementary school; where Maths, English and Arabic history are taught.

Harrow Road

Advice Plus at the Beethoven Centre Provider: A2Dominion; Contribution: £3,250 Advice Plus sessions operate on a weekly basis at the Beethoven Centre on a Monday afternoon (2-4pm). This provides a one-stop shop for residents with a range of concerns such as housing and money matters, as well as offering a translation service in Arabic and Bengali.

Financial capability Workshops Provider: A2Dominion; Cost £1,850 A series of financial awareness workshops will be delivered for local residents, covering key issues such as budgeting, debt advice, and income maximisation.

All Sing! Harrow Road Community Choir Provider: Harrow Road Community Choir (Charity); Cost: £4,023 (Term 1 2011), plus further £4,023 allocated for autumn and winter terms 2011-12. Funding was originally allocated to support the choirs’ development over the first 6 months of 2011. The choir remains extremely successful, attracting an average group of 40 local residents to each weekly rehearsal at the Paddington Academy as well as performing a number of concerts. The new funding committed for September 2011 onwards, has already helped leverage additional external funding for the choir.

Tree planting along Portnall Road Provider: Westminster Tree Team; Contribution: £1,200 A consultation was undertaken with local residents on Portnall Road in November 2010, about possible tree planting along the south end of the road which has limited greenery. Following positive feedback, councillors have decided to fund the planting of new trees on the road, which will be match-funded by the Westminster Tree Trust.

Street Reps Quarterly Newsletter 2011-12 Provider: Harrow Road Neighbourhood Partnership; Cost: £4,140 Quarterly newsletter to be distributed locally (both hard copy and electronically), keeping people informed of local news and activities.

Purchase of Cycle kit for 4 members of the local Police Team Provider: Police; Cost: £1,000 Local police team have requested new cycle kit to support their police work, and enable officers to use cycles more regularly to get around the ward quickly and help tackle crime. The kit has been purchased and in regular use by officers of the local Police Team.

Establishment of a Saturday Dad’s group at Micky star Children’s Centre Provider: London Early Year’s Foundation; Cost: £900 Group sessions take place on the last Saturday of every month, having commenced on the 29th January 2011. Micky Star predominantly works with children aged 0-5, and these sessions are seen as an ideal way of encouraging fathers to be involved in the development of their children from an early age.

Purchase of a mobile fingerprint reader for the local Police Team Provider: Police; Cost : £2,530.80 The device will assist the police in identifying persons in low level crime and disorder where time consuming trips to the police station could be avoided. It will help keep the police on the streets longer. The device will be particularly useful in identifying persons involved in aggressive begging, street prostitution and kerb crawling – all activities which Hyde Park residents have highlighted as a key concern in the ward.

Installation of informal play equipment in Norfolk square Provider: Westminster Parks; Cost: £5,346.22 - COMPLETE

Improving access for Mother and Toddler group and other community uses at St John's Hyde Park Church Provider: St John’s Hyde Park Church; Contribution: £5,000 A large refurbishment programme is scheduled to take place at the Church between March and October 2011, which will see the access to the Church improved to facilitate its future use by the local community. A contribution from the ward budget will support this work to go ahead.

Second Weekly Recycling Scheme for Eligible Streets 2011-12 Provider: Recycling Service; Cost: £29,354.00 This project will see the additional doorstep recycling collections across the ward, continue from the project started previously. The second collection day was changed from Saturday to Friday and this is continuing for 2011-12.

Installation of Hanging Baskets Provider: Parks; Cost: £15,544.87 The ward budget has funded the installation of hanging baskets at locations throughout the ward, to be planted twice in the year. In June 2011, 69 baskets were installed.

Street Sign for Little Venice Sports Centre Provider: Transportation; Cost: £196.20 A street sign has been put up at the junction of Crompton Street and Edgware Road to direct pedestrians to the Little Venice Sports Centre.

Contribution towards Halloween Event on Paddington Green Estate Provider: CWH; Contribution: £700 Halloween event took place for local families on Monday 31st October from 4-7pm.

Installation of Hanging Baskets 2011-12 Provider: Parks; Cost: £19,421.10 The ward budget has funded the installation of hanging baskets at locations throughout the ward, to be planted twice in the year. In June 2011, 126 baskets were installed.

St Augustine’s School Playground Refurbishment Provider: St Augustine’s School; Cost: £15,998.83 The ward budget has contributed to the cost of refurbishing the playground at St Augustine’s school so that it provided somewhere to climb, quiet areas with plants for talking and relaxing, somewhere to perform and a multi-purpose pitch with built in football and hockey goals and basketball hoops. The playground will be the hub for after-school playcentre/childcare provision for the Maida Vale Ward and so will be used by primary pupils from the whole local community. The playground was completed in October 2011.

Advice Plus at the Beethoven Centre Provider: A2Dominion; Contribution: £3,250 Advice Plus session operate on a weekly basis at the Beethoven Centre on a Monday afternoon (2- 4pm). These provide a one-stop shop for residents with a range of concerns such as housing and money matters, as well as offering a translation service in Arabic and Bengali.

Financial capability Workshops Provider: A2Dominion; Cost: £1,850 A series of financial awareness workshops will be delivered for local residents, covering key issues such as budgeting, debt advice, and income maximisation.

Bright Ideas Fund for Secondary School Pupils Provider: tbc; Costs: £2,000 Pupils from 4 secondary schools in the north of the borough to be invited to submit project ideas for funding. A joint school event with pupils is being planned for early 2012. The best ideas will be developed in conjunction with the schools and awarded funding.

St Jude’s Youth Club sessions Provider: London Tigers; Contribution: £4,500 Weekly youth club sessions and activities take place at St Jude’s community Hall, every Tuesday and Friday, from 6-9pm. Sunday sports sessions at the Moberly are also supervised by the youth club.

One Day singing event at the Beethoven Centre Provider: All Sing! Community Choir; Cost: £535 Event took place on Saturday 17th September 2011. Radio systems Provider: and Strand Business Crime Reduction Partnership; Cost: £4,829 The funding will provide a two-way radio handset providing direct links to local police officers, a CCTV control room, special constables, police community support officers and other local businesses. It will also be used to establish access to a secure intranet site providing the latest news and information about crime and disorder within Covent Garden and The Strand, details of upcoming police operations and pictures and CCTV clips of known local offenders and suspects.

Thorney Island Archives Provider: The Thorney Island Society; Cost: £5,182 The Thorney Island Society are using the ward budget to employ an archivist to catalogue the considerable archive relating to the local area that has been collected by the society. The funding will also contribute towards the running costs of the neighbourhood resource centre, archive and shop at 10 Old Pye Street.

Know Your Tax Credits and Benefit Rights Provider: Chinese Information and Advice Centre; Cost: £8,422.00 The ward budget is funding this two-year project which will promote the awareness of welfare support available to the Chinese community, including social housing, income support, tax credits and child benefits, to address the current low take-up of these benefits and address disadvantage.

Shelton Street Railings Provider: Transportation; Cost: £1,000.00 This project will see five, two metre sections of guard rail put up by the zebra crossing on Shelton Street. This will address issues being reported to the council of noise and pollution caused by vehicles waiting on the zig zag markings with their engines idling.

Westbourne

Environment project at the Meanwhile Gardens Play Hut Provider: Meanwhile Gardens Playhut; Cost: £6,414 Funding supported a gardening project at Meanwhile Gardens twice a week for 6 months between April and October 2011. Parents and children (up to the age of 6) were encouraged to learn about food growing and healthy eating through a range of growing, tasting and art activities.

Book Project through Westbourne Children’s Centre Provider: Junior League of London; Contribution: £3,000 Funding will support the distribution of a new book each month for 2 years to 60 young children within the ward to encourage learning (January 2011 – December 2012). Children will be identified through the Westbourne Children’s Centre.

Amberely Youth Club Provider: Working with Men; Contribution: £4,820 Funds will support the hire of a gym instructor for 4 hours each week to assist young people in making best use of the newly refurbished gym. A new air conditioning unit will also be installed to improve the gym environment.

Gardening Project – Development of school garden site Westminster Academy; Cost: £3,350 Last year the Westminster Academy started developing an unused plot of land on their grounds in to a garden area with shrubs and plants, teaching pupils practical gardening skills. Funding has been allocated to support the installation of secure fencing around the site, to protect the expansion of the garden to allow food growing and wildlife development. Funding will also be used for new tools and seeds.

Club Xpress – Half term Holiday Camp, 2011-12 Provider: Westbourne Park Family Centre; Cost: £5,080 Funding to support the delivery of two, three-day holiday clubs for 50 children aged 5-13. The first took place during October 2011 half term and the second will take place during the February 2012 half term.

Extension of Youth Voice Project (December 2011 onwards) Provider: PDT - Stowe Youth Club; Contribution: £3,700 This project consists of a series of 10, 3 hour workshops with young people, giving them a forum to express their views/concerns on a range of issues such as knife crime, gangs, relationships with the police, and employment. The project will run between January and March at the Stowe Centre. This programme is designed to build on the success of the earlier Youth Voice programme the councillors supported in the summer of 2011.

On the Waterfront – film project Provider: Beauchamp Lodge Settlement; Contribution: £4,700 A 5 day course of filmmaking workshops for around 20 pupils from Edward Wilson Primary School will take place in the unique environment of the floating classroom (situated on the Grand Union Canal). The project will take place during the half term in June 2012. Pupils will be involved in all aspects of developing and producing a short film which tells the history of the journey along the Canal from Paddington Basin to Camden Lock. This project builds on the success of an earlier project funded by the Big Lottery. Edward Wilson Primary School were impressed by the outcomes of the original project, so they have committed to joint fund this project with the ward councillors.

Companionship Plus Provider: Caring Agencies Forum; Cost: £6,700 The ward budget is funding a companionship programme to encourage participation among groups of older residents who do not usually attend social events. The project is working with residents aged over 50 and other isolated or vulnerable residents in the ward. Events such as scrabble evenings, a cheese and wine party, a trip to the seaside and a summer barbeque will be held.

Soho Caring Agencies Forum Administrator Provider: Soho Caring Agencies Forum; Cost: £1,852 The Soho Caring Agencies Forum has also been funding for a part-time administrator to support Forum meetings over the year January to December 2011.

West End Community Network Provider: The West End Community Network; Cost: £5,000 The ward budget is funding a project co-ordinator for 6 months between January and June 2011 to co-ordinate the work of the amenity societies which represent residents and local businesses in the ward. Regular meetings are being co-ordinated and lobbying activity and responses to consultations will be undertaken.

Soho Community Centre Trust Minibus Provider: Soho Community Centre Trust; Cost: £1,955.55 The Soho Community Centre Trust has been awarded funding which will cover one years' costs of keeping their minibus on the road, plus a contribution towards petrol costs. The minibus is used for day trips, short break holidays and transport to hospital.

Soho Youth Magazine Provider: Soho Parish Primary School; Cost: £2,100.00 Ward budget funding has been awarded to cover the cost of four editions of Soho Youth Magazine, which will be distributed widely both within the school and around the community. The project will give young people a voice in their community and help them learn new skills such as journalism, design and photography.
