MANAGING DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

Our Human Resource needs and the way we manage it needs to fi t in with both the business needs of the organization as well as our role in society.

As I reflect, we have surely moved on to a new phase in business and organization structure. Firstly the world and environment of business has turned truly dynamic, a reality never before envisaged.

We too need to change – with positive thoughts in our mind. Our Human Resource needs and the way we manage it needs to fit in with both the business needs of the organization as well as our role in society. The many training programmes we are into this year speak of our efforts in this direction. It is our people who run the organization and they are the backbone and the biggest asset of the group.

Milestones worth mentioning during the past year were

• There were 19 in house training programmes conducted that added value to the capabilities of our staff • Major CSR initiatives launched were CG GSL (GROWING SERVICE LEADERS), the KALIKOT SANITARY MANAGEMENT PROJECT (KASAM) and OPERATION DRISTHI. • Myself as the founder of Himalayan Climate Change has much to signify our commitment to the preservation of our fragile ecosystem. • New businesses launched were CG Retail Pvt. Ltd., addition of DPS Birgunj to CG Education and CG Exim Pvt Ltd. • Various new products were launched under our FMCG and Electronics Division. • In Infrastructure we launched CG Hills, to be one of Kathmandu’s top Realty landmarks. • New investments in Cement and Hydro Power are being followed up with project work which should see fruition soon.

Yes much has been achieved as we look back. I wish to pay tribute to all those that have walked along with us in this arduous path, those in the various echelons of the corporate structure and those hardworking friends of ours in the shop floor that have tirelessly worked to hold high our name in the world of business and Social Responsibility.

After all, the Chaudhary Group exists to “shatter mindsets” about how customer service should be delivered and how products need to match consumer demands.

I have always admired champions – whether in the field of sport, science, art or business – who attempt the impossible. We have all heard countless examples of champions who recount stories of being told by the establishment or by so-called experts in their field that something can’t be done. But I am also sure that that is what motivates them even more. Being unafraid of failure is, I believe, one of the most important qualities of a champion. My interest in life comes from setting myself huge, apparently unachievable challenges and trying to rise above them. Whether I succeed or fail in meeting the challenge is immaterial – it is the effort and the opportunity that drives me. I truly believe that through effort and I guess to some extent risk, success is waiting around the corner regardless. However, while champions aren’t afraid of failure, they are truly made when they learn the art of turning failure into success. In addition to that, my recipe for success has always been to understand my limitations and to surround myself with talented and brilliant people that can pick up where I leave off, and, most importantly, to have fun on the journey. One definition of a champion, as far as I am concerned, is somebody who can empower people’s ideas in order to fuel success. It is no secret that I have always attributed the success of Chaudhary Group and its brands to the people that work for our Group. I have always had a policy of hiring good motivators over good business people. I always look for executives that can put their people first and themselves last. So, in many ways I believe champions are self-less. My own formula for success is actually not to rely on any brilliance in my own mind, or at least not to solely rely on it. I have decided all the way through my life to surround myself with people I know have that something special within, and to harness that brilliance for my own benefit and experience. My business team has always been the best and brightest I could find anywhere in the world, and my role has simply been to assist them to achieve their potential.

With these works, I once again thank you for your valued contribution.

Warm wishes,

Nirvana Chaudhary Managing Director
