At the Ordinary Session of Cardinals and Bishops of the Congregation for the Causes of , held on January 9, 2018, the miracle attributed to the intercession of Mother Clelia Merloni was recognized with a unanimous affirmative vote. Francis signed the Decree of a Miracle on January 26, 2018. All that remains is to celebrate a Mass of in sometime later this year! We invite all of you to join us in thanking the of Jesus and the Mary for the special grace they have given us in obtaining the beatification of Mother Clelia.

The Miracle attributed to the Intercession of Mother Clelia Merloni On March 14, 1951, a Brazilian doctor named Pedro Ângelo de Oliveira Filho was suddenly stricken by an ascending progressive paralysis known as Landry’s paralysis, or Guillain-Barré syndrome. Within a few weeks the paralysis spread, resulting in acute respiratory difficulty. When the paralysis finally reached his throat, the doctors discontinued limited medical options for treatment available at that time. On March 20, he was having great difficulty breathing and was barely able to swallow his own saliva, and doctors informed the family that he would not likely survive the night. The patient’s wife sought out Sr. Adelina Alves Barbos, who immediately began praying with the family, asking Mother Clelia to intercede for a cure. Sr. Adelina then gave the dying man a little drop of water in which she had placed a piece of fabric from a veil that Mother Clelia had once worn. Although Pedro Ângelo was almost totally paralyzed at that point, he managed to swallow the water that contained the tiny relic. After a few minutes, he was able to swallow on his own. Sr. Adelina offered him a spoonful of water, which he drank, then a small amount of water in a cup, then some milk in a glass, all which he drank without any problem! Everyone was amazed at the sudden improvement, so much so, that the Sister then prepared some custard; Pedro Ângelo swallowed it easily! When the doctor arrived in the morning and saw the patient cured, he exclaimed that it was a miracle. Within three weeks, Pedro Ângelo was walking normally. On May 6, he was released from the hospital, his healing complete and permanent, with never any sign of relapse. Pedro Ângelo died on September 25, 1976 of cardiac arrest, totally unrelated to the paralysis that nearly killed him 25 years previously. SCHOOL NEWS St. Ambrose School’s website and Facebook pages are a great way to learn more about all of the exciting experiences happening ! in our school Check them out at http://school.stambroseonthehill.com/

Over the last week the lower grades celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and participated in Read Across America Day. The Pre-K students read Fox in Sox and wore silly socks. They also completed a STEM activity stacking the Cat in the Hat’s hats. The 2nd grade read Dr. Seuss books, did Seuss Math, made Lorax moustaches, and planned all the places they would go and things they would do. Third grade read Bartholomew and the Oobleck, made oobleck in Science class, and discussed the difference between a liquid and solid and how oobleck has the ability to be both. Everyone enjoyed a dress down day and the fun, learning activities our “Seuss-tastic” teachers planned.
