McNamara’s responsibilities will include corporate relations, business development, client services, strategic planning, and development of new services and capabilities. “We enthusiastically welcome John to the CommPac team and look forward to his leadership as we continue to expand and enhance strategic communications, public relations and marketing services, not just for our current clients, but as we identify new opportunities,” said CommPac CEO Kitty Lagareta. “We continually challenge ourselves to meet our clients’ highest expectations and John shares this passion for doing excellent work and delivering results.” McNamara was the associate athletics director for external affairs at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Athletics Department since January 2004. McNamara helped negotiate the department’s eight-year agreement with Under Armour, which provides more than $4 million in cash and trade, and a six-year television agreement with Oceanic Time Warner Cable, which includes a record $2.3 million annual rights fee. He was the department’s primary liaison to Oceanic Time Warner Cable (television partner), ESPN 1420 (radio partner), and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser (publications partner) and oversaw the print, television, radio, and Internet advertising campaigns for season, mini-packs and individual game tickets for the six UH sports in which tickets are sold. UH received the “Outstanding E-Marketing” award from the American Marketing Association (Hawai‘i chapter) for its Internet marketing and ticketing initiatives in 2008. Under McNamara’s watch, additional emphasis was placed on Internet-based initiatives and emerging digital technologies, leading to increased traffic on the department’s website (HawaiiAthletics.com), Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram accounts, as well as an e-mail database of more than 93,000 for UH’s weekly e-newsletter (H-Mail). He also supervised the department’s H-Zone merchandising operation, which includes three retail outlets (Ward Center, Stan Sheriff Center, and Les Murakami Stadium) and a website (H-ZoneOnline.com). (more) John McNamara Named President of Communications Pacific Page 3 Prior to coming to Hawaii, McNamara was a senior administrator at three collegiate conference headquarters (Mid-American Conference in Toledo, Ohio; Western Athletic Conference in Denver, Colorado; and Conference USA in Chicago, Illinois), where he worked with 41 different universities and was responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of national, regional and local marketing and media relations programs. McNamara graduated from the University of Toledo in 1985 with a bachelor of arts in communications, specializing in TV broadcasting and minoring in political science. He is married to Sherry Menor-McNamara and the couple resides in Honolulu.
