RTU Rector and the Ambassador of Italy in Latvia Discuss Opportunities for Future Cooperation 28th of February, 2020 On 27 February, Rector of Riga Technical University (RTU), Academician Leonīds Ribickis, hosted an introductory visit for His Excellency Ambassador of the Italian Republic Mr Stefano Maria Taliani de Marchio. The aim of the visit was to discuss the current cooperation with higher education institutions in Italy and outline future development of this cooperation. In the successful implementation of the cooperation, both parties agreed that coordinated activities between RTU and Italian Embassy in Latvia are highly significant. During the visit RTU representatives informed the Ambassador about cooperation between RTU and higher education institutions in Italy, for example, student and staff mobility within the framework of Erasmus + programme. RTU has signed 26 agreements with higher education institutions in Italy, and the active cooperation has resulted in increased numbers of students from Italy – in academic year 2019/2020, 40 students from Italy have started their studies at RTU. They also discussed the development of the international summer school «Nonlinear Life», established by RTU in 2017, for the second consecutive year it has been held in Italy. In 2019, the Summer School was held in Trieste in collaboration with the University of Trieste, but this summer it will take place in Bergamo in cooperation with the University of Bergamo. The Ambassador of the Italian Republic was also welcomed by the Deputy Rector for International Academic Cooperation and Studies, Professor Igors Tipāns, Dean of the Faculty of E-Learning Technologies and Humanities (FETH), Professor Marina Platonova, Researcher of FETH Institute of Applied Linguistics, Zane Seņko and Project Manager of International Cooperation and Foreign Students Department, Ēriks Badamšins.
