There is worldwide distribution of fresh water fishes. Pakistan is blessed with a diversity of fishes owing to streams, rivers, dams and ocean. In freshwater bodies of the country about 193 fish species were recorded. There are about 30 species of fish which are commercially exploited for good source of proteins and vitamins. The fish marketing has great socio economic value in the country. Unfortunately, fish fauna is declining at alarming rate due to water pollution, over fishing, pesticide use and other anthropogenic activities. Therefore, about 20 percent of fish population is threatened as endangered or extinct. All Mashers are ‘endangered’, notably Tor putitora, which is also included in the Red List Category of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as Endangered. Mashers (Tor species) are distributed in Southeast Asian and Himalayan regions including trans-Himalayan countries like Pakistan and India. The heavy flood of July, 2010 resulted in the minimizing of Tor putitora species Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the fish is now found extinct from river Swat. -

Sarjubala Devi2 1,2 Department of Life Sciences, Manipur University Canchipur, Manipur- India Abstract The effect of Maillard Reaction on the antioxidant activity and total amino acid contents of the processed Amblypharyngodon mola of the Eastern Himalayas was determined. The Amblypharyngodon mola (family-Cyprinidae) is locally known as Mukanga in Manipur and mowa in Assam, mowa or mowka in west Bengal. The small fishes are consumed as a whole; they are often cooked in fish alone and also with vegetables. In the present study the fish was cooked in different forms i.e., steaming, frying and fish curry. The highest antioxidant activity was found in fish curry as compared to fresh, steamed and fish fried. The chemical reaction occurred during cooking process is the Maillard reaction i.e., the condensation reaction between the amino acids and carbonyl carbon of the reducing sugar present inside the fish body forms the melanoidin (Heterocyclic nitrogenous compound) compounds. The highest total amino acid was found in steamed as compared to other processed samples. The results suggested that the Maillard reaction product increases the amino acids content and antioxidant property of the steamed and fish curry and also improved the taste of the product. Thus consumption of the processed small fishes should be encouraged. Fish species diversity data were collected from fishers using Fish species diversity participatory rural appraisal tools and the change in the fish species diversity was determined using Shannon- Fishers Wiener, Margalef's Richness and Pielou's Evenness indices. Principal component analysis (PCA) was conducted Principal component analysis with a dataset of 150 fishers survey to characterize the major factors responsible for the reduction of fish species Climate change fi Anthropogenic activity diversity. Out of 63 sh species, 83% of them were under the available category in 2008 which decreased to 51% in 2018. Fish species diversity indices for all 12 taxonomic orders in 2008 declined remarkably in 2018. The first PCA (climatic change) responsible for the reduced fish species diversity explained 24.05% of the variance and consisted of erratic rainfall (positive correlation coefficient 0.680), heavy rainfall (À0.544), temperature fluctu- ation (0.561), and beel siltation (0.503). The second PCA was anthropogenic activity, including the use of harmful fishing gear (0.702), application of urea to harvest fish (0.673), drying beels annually (0.531), and overfishing (0.513). -

Degree College, Satavahana University, Jammikunta, Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh, India _____________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT Present study was carried out to determine the larvivorous activity of fishes was found in Lower Manair Dam to identify the potential fish species for consuming larval forms. The listed 58 larvivorous potential fish species were collected and identified in the laboratory based on the morphometric and meristimatic characters. Pelagic feeders occupy 25.59%, bentho pelagic feeders occupy 24.14%, demersal feeders occupy 43.10% and feeding of all substrata occupies 05.17%. Only 22 species of larvivorous fishes are consuming mosquito larvae effectively and contributed to 37.93% in the total population. Within the individual orders Perciformes contributed to 66.67%, Cypiniformies contributed to 52% and Beloiniformes contributed to 50%. Most of the species have a high larvivorous potential at early stages, hence these are the feasible in controlling reservoir larval forms. The common name, local name, IUCN (2013.2) and CAMP (1998) conservation status of each fish was listed. Data were collected fortnightly from two sampling points, one point was 1 km far from another of Pakuria village of Bharso Union, using four fishing gears namely berjal, moijal, fashjal and kholson. A total of 3987 individuals comprising of 28 fish species belonging to 8 orders, 16 families including 2 exotic species (Cyprinus carpio var. communis) and Oreochromis niloticus (niloticus) were found. Cypriniformes was recorded as dominant order contributing 40.62% and the rest 7 orders Perciformes, Siluriformes, Synbranchiformes, Channiformes, Beloniformes, Tetraodontiformes and Osteoglossiformes contributing 26.31%, 12.4%, 9.77%, 7.59%, 2.90%, 0.22% and 0.10% respectively. Puntius chola (chola puti) was the most abundant (30.8%) and Monopterus cuchia (Kuchia) was the least abundant (0.05%) species. Total six threatened species were recorded (according to IUCN, 2015) of which four (2.90%) are Vulnerable, one (0.4%) as Endangered and one (1.22%) as Critically Endangered. The average value of Shannon -Weiner Diversity Index (H), Simpson Dominance Index (D) and Margalef Richness Index (d) were calculated as 2.232±0.14, 0.126±0.03and 2.764±0.29 respectively.
