Four games over the opening weekend is an exciting way to begin. A warm welcome e to the Rochester Ravens, Western Mass Pioneers, Laval Comètes and Vermont Voltage. Last year was a tremendous one for the Club. Our 17 Girls won the North American Super Y-League Championship, we were ranked 2 nd of all SYL clubs in North America for performance on and off the field and our W-League and PDL teams both won their divisions for the 7 th and 2nd successive year respectively. The Men and the Women both advanced to the Conference Finals before falling to the Buffalo Flash and Reading Rage. There is a brand new look to the Fury Women this year. With so many of our 2010 players representing Canada, Australia and New Zealand in this summer’s World Cup in Germany, new head coach Dom Oliveri has been extra busy bringing together a new squad with the potential to contend for this year’s W-League championship to be held in Seattle. The team started off the season with back to back victories at Rochester and Hamilton last weekend, It will also be a very fresh and young looking PDL team in 2011 with a number of fan favorites like Will Beaugé and Justin Dasah having lost their U-23 status and others such as Adrian LeRoy and Martin John moving on to professional careers with FC Edmonton and Cardiff City. With 2010 coach Carl Valentine accepting a position with the MLS Vancouver Whitecaps, new coach Steve Payne has the task of building a new squad. The Men started off the season with a loss in Hamilton last Sunday. This weekend, the Men will be out to protect our very impressive 26 game unbeaten home record in regular season PDL play. With plans for a refurbished Frank Clair stadium in the works, the possibility of a pro soccer team and Ottawa bidding to host the 2014 (U-20) and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the future for soccer in Ottawa looks bright! Success brings it rewards but also places increased financial burdens on the Club and its teams. Ensuring that our W-League, PDL and youth teams have access to the very best facilities, coaching and competition is only possible due to the assistance of our sponsors, advertisers, partners and in the case of our younger players, our parents. A huge thank you to all and to all our supporters. Enjoy a summer of great soccer. John Pugh Owner and CEO Be Part of It 201 1 Ottawa Fury Game Day Program 1 Home Opening Weekend BE PART OF IT! The Fury enter 2011 having won the division the past seven seasons and will have the Laval Comètes, Quebec City Amirals and Toronto Lady Lynx, among others, looking to knock them off their perch. Over the past 8 seasons the Fury Women have been the jewel of the W-League, but have yet to capture their crown – Ottawa is the league’s most successful franchise not to have women the W-League Championship owning the league third best all-time record (104-23-16). As always the goal is to win the W-League Championship so the Fury hope to produce another dominant season and book their ticket to Seattle, WA home of the 2011 Championship Finals. New faces will be aplenty for the Fury Women this season beginning at the head coach position where long-time W-League assistant coach Dom Oliveri takes over the head coaching reigns and has assembled a strong group of NCAA talent after losing many international players like Amber Hearn, Ria Percival, Aivi Luik and Tameka Butt to the FIFA Women’s World Cup as they represent their respective countries this summer in Germany.
