While the content make for a difficult read, Alderman has crafted a book with so much nuance and many levels of understanding. The Power tackles the issue of power and explores gender dynamics. This book is based on a true story of survival during a Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin—This book is the horrific time in our history. It is also a love story. It perfect example of why adults should read is very interesting, hear-warming, and a compelling junior/young adult books. I loved all the homonyms story. The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers—I am not sure how I never read this before now, but it is a wonderful book and she is such a gifted writer. I will go back and reread A Member of the Wedding now. Great character development, people’s attitude towards Dear Mrs. Bird by A.J. Pierce—A look at home life in money and what people will do to get money. London during WWII, through the eyes of a young Excellent writing! The story is full of empathy, shore, town to town, family to family. It was hard compassion, and kind hearts. I very much enjoyed to put down. The memoir/self-help portions of the The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by book make it a recommended read. [158.1 M289, CD Siddhartha Mukherjee—This book was book, ebook, eaudio] outstanding and one that should be read with care by anyone working in oncology. It gives beautiful Lost at Sea: The Mysteries by Jon Ronson. This book should be mandatory of all; even if you don’t agree with Desmond’s suggested solution. Wise Trees by Diane Cook and Len Jenshel—This is a large coffee table book with gorgeous pictures of famous or significant trees, accompanied by a short story of their history. Maybe this is weird, but this book made me feel reverent and connected to the Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks—Subtitled “tales of earth. Some of these trees are very old and it’s music and the brain,” the book by this neurologist amazing to think about how much they have seen uses dozens of fascinating anecdotes about things go on in this world. To Shake the Sleeping Self by Jedidiah Jenkins—I liked the book a lot more than I expected. Like Wild (Cheryl Strayed) it is both a physical and a spiritual doctor who journey. There is physical peril and a lot of self- week analysis, but Jed is a highly likable protagonist.
