3 FROM THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS...

2020 has been a very difficult year for many Americans, Pennsylvanians, Bucks County and Warwick residents and businesses. It’s been a year of uncertainty, isolation, and deviation from the lifestyle many of us have become accustomed to. While the majority of these issues are not in the control of your local government, some are. During the height of the pandemic, all township departments continued to safely function by a mix of at-work, at-home working arrangements to ensure that every emergency or nonemergency phone call and email was responded to. Maintenance and safety issues were addressed timely with a focus on operational continuity and employee well-being. The core functions of every department continued to function within the perimeters of the state’s guidelines. We wanted to remain a signature staple of the community and offer a sense of normalcy during an abnormal time.

We sincerely hope we met your expectations during this period. At the time this article is being written, Bucks County is entering the Green phase of recovery under Governor Wolf’s plan. Restrictions continue to be lifted and more businesses reopen their doors after a prolonged closure. While the future remains uncertain, we now all have the experience acquired from living and managing through a global pandemic and are ready for any resurgences or backslides with even greater efficiency and productivity.

Many Warwick businesses suffered and continue to suffer which only reinforces the need to shop and dine locally. We wish to thank again all residents and business owners for their support during this time.

5 PLUG IN AT THE PARK The appeal of electric vehicles is growing. Automakers are expanding their lines making electric cars with better performance and more aestheticaly stylish. In fact, many people now a days are looking for new ways to leave a smaller footprint and lead safer, more sustainable lives. Electronic vehicles offer this to many residents of Warwick Township. To make owning an electric vehicle easier for our residents, Warwick Township has teamed up with PA DEP and PECO to obtain a grant. With this grant, we were able to install a Level Two Leviton Chargepoint charging station in the parking lot at Warwick Community Park, 1733 Township Greene, Jamison. This Level Two electric supply equipment is in the perfect location for residents to enjoy our park and walking path, while charging up their electric vehicle. Two charging ports share a single circuit, making it virtually guaranteed to have a spot waiting for you when you need to boost your battery. And, thanks to a generous donation from Renk Electric, our Leviton is equipped with a cord management system. This estimated $1,150 cord management system, will extend the life of the electric cords on the station. The retractable system will also ensure that when you arrive to plug in, the cords will never be on the ground, but hanging conveniently in place. Warwick is working with great companies to do great things for our community.

6 HEADQUARTERS TRAIL TO OPEN IN 2020 Daniel M. Sharapan, Director of Parks, Recreation & Open Space In 2017, Warwick Township was awarded a statewide grant from the Department of Transportation (PENNDOT) though the TAP program to build a trail that connects the historic Moland House to the newly opened Memorial Park. The TAP program (Transportation Alternative Programs) provides funding for programs and projects defined as transportation alternatives, including on- and off-road pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure projects for improving non-driver access to public transportation and enhanced mobility, community improvement activities and environmental mitigation, trails that serve a transportation purpose and safe routes to school projects. Warwick Township received $500,000 to complete the project. The trail, called Headquarters Trail, will start at the entrance to the Moland House on the side and will go under York Road, through the woods, over a new bridge that spans a small tributary of the Little and connect to the trail system in Memorial Park. A local contractor will be completing this project through PENNDOT, starting in late Summer and should be completed before winter.

Thank you We extend a special thanks to the business and professional members of our community whose support through advertising has made publication of this newsletter possible at no cost to taxpayers. Please support the local businesses that support the Township.

7 WELCOME, ROAR WICK! In the Spring of 2020, the world slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Township buildings were closed in addition to all parks. While, the parks were closed to the public, the Parks & Recreation Department was still conducting inspections to ensure the safety of our residents. During one such inspection, department staff came across someone or something that would change our community forever. The first sighting was at the Memorial Park playground on May 1. As staff approached, a pair of fuzzy legs and a fluffy pink tail were seen lounging in the mouth of the biggest slide. Being that the playground was posted as CLOSED, there was much concern. However, the owner of the pink tail had vanished when staffers arrived at the slide. Slightly perplexed staffers continued their inspection and advised residents, via social media, to keep an eye out for this unknown visitor. A week went by before there was another indication that someone new had come to Warwick. Large pink paw prints were found all over Memorial Park. Prints were found along the walking trail, by the rain garden and surrounding the playground. Parks & Rec staff searched the entire park. There were no other signs of this newcomer. It was very puzzling, until a line of pink prints was discovered heading out of Memorial Park toward York Road. Ok, our visitor had left Memorial Park. However, he had not moved on from our town. Prints were discovered in front of the Township Administration building and in the parking lot. A trail of prints led right up to the Township mowing trailer. Public Works employees reported tufts of pink fur all over the landscaping equipment. A full day was spent searching, and once again, there were no sightings of the creature that was exploring Warwick Township. At long last, on May 6, we caught the first glimpse of the face of our elusive wanderer. Township security cameras recording what appeared to be a 7’ tall, pink haired animal, peeking in through township windows. Park & Recreation knew it was time to call in the pros. Warwick Police joined in the search to locate this critter and find out who he was. The police department reviewed security footage, took footprint measurements and pink fur samples. They had a pretty good profile of who they were looking for. And 7 days later, Warwick’s finest located a 7’ tall pink and golden lion named Roar Wick and brought him in for questioning. Roar Wick found himself in our township completely by mistake. He is originally from Guinea, a country on the west coast of Africa. Roar Wick, or R.W. as he is now known, decided to take a cruise vacation to the United States. As he set sail on the S.S. Whatchamacallit, R.W. did not know that his life would never be the same. During his cruise, he was able to visit many exciting places like Florida and . While taking a bit of an excursion off deck, he Wick grabbed his sunscreen and his luggage and headed wandered a little too far from the dock and was unable to west from New Jersey. For days and days, he travelled, not find his way back. The S.S. Whatchamacallit could no longer really knowing where he was, and not having anyone to ask wait for him, so they weighed anchor, leaving poor R.W. to directions, as everyone was in a stay at home order. In late fend for himself. Always being up for an adventured, Roar April he arrived at Memorial Park. The open fields and tall

3 REASONS TO SCOOP THAT POOP

1. First and Foremost, It’s the Law! Township Code Section 63 requires any person having care, custody or control of an animal to pick up after it. Furthermore, it requires appropriate disposal of the fecal matter which may mean carrying it with you until you can find a proper receptacle. 2. Cleanliness & Disease Control. Picking up and properly disposing of animal waste will keep pests from being attracted to the area due to odor. It will also ensure common diseases won’t be transmitted and contaminated feces won’t end up in our waterways and/or soils. 3. Common Courtesy. If you haven’t ever stepped in a pile those who have will tell you it is an unpleasant experience. Scooping poop will ensure everyone has the same opportunity to enjoy the areas you and your animals do.
