ABSTRACT
Language has many variations in society which used by many people in this world. One of the famous variety of language that used by people is slang words. Slang is one of varieties of language in sociolinguistics used by society to interact each other based on context and used by some communities. This study focused on slang words in ‘Friends Season 2’ movie directed by David Crane and Marta Kauffman with two purposes: (1) To describe the meanings of slang words used by three the main characters of ‘Friends Season 2’ movie. (2) To identify types of slang words used by three the main characters of ‘Friends Season 2’ movie. In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method. It is expected to get the data about what are the meanings of slang words used by three the main characters of ‘Friends Season 2’ Movie and What are types of slang words used by three the main characters of ‘Friends Season 2’ movie. The object of this research was a movie especially in the dialogues of ‘Friends Season 2’movie. This research was using document analysis. Then, the human investigator is the primary instrument for gathering and analyzing data on this research the researchers use documentation. The finding revealed that the meanings of slang words used by the actors are different according to the context of ‘Friends Season 2’ movie. It also revealed types of slang are two types are slang in the form of words and slang in the form of phrase. The slang in the form of words is a linguistic unit that smaller than a phrase. And the slang in the form of phrase is it shows their feelings, opinions or ideas. Key words: sociolinguistics, slang, friends season 2movie
