Restudy of the Cambrian–Ordovician boundary beds, traditionally assigned to the Mila Formation Member 5 in Mila- Kuh, northern Iran, for the first time provides convincing evidence of the Early Ordovician (Tremadocian) age of the uppermost part of the Mila Formation. Two succeeding trilobite assemblages typifying the Asaphellus inflatus–Dactylocephalus and Psilocephalina lubrica associations have been recognized in the uppermost part of the unit. The Tremadocian trilobite fauna of Mila-Kuh shows close similarity to contemporaneous trilobite faunas of South China down to the species level, while affinity to the Tremadocian fauna of Central Iran is low. Cottage Grove. MN 55016; Abstract—Trilobites represent an extinct group of Paleozoic marine invertebrate fossils that have great scientific interest and public appeal. Trilobites exhibit wide taxonomic diversity and are contained within nine orders of the Class Trilobita. A wealth of scientific literature exists regarding trilobites, their morphology, biostratigraphy, indicators of paleoenvironments, behavior, and other research themes. An inventory of National Park Service areas reveals that fossilized remains of trilobites are documented from within at least 33 NPS units, including Death Valley National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve. More than 120 trilobite hototype specimens are known from National Park Service areas. INTRODUCTION Of the 262 National Park Service areas identified with paleontological resources, 33 of those units have documented trilobite fossils (Fig. 1). More than 120 holotype specimens of trilobites have been found within National Park Service (NPS) units. Once thriving during the Paleozoic Era (between ~520 and 250 million years ago) and becoming extinct at the end of the Permian Period, trilobites were prone to fossilization due to their hard exoskeletons and the sedimentary marine environments they inhabited. While parks such as Death Valley National Park and Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve have reported a great abundance of fossilized trilobites, many other national parks also contain a diverse trilobite fauna. -

RESUMEN Se presenta una recopilación de más de un millar de taxones de nivel género o especie, de los que 486 corresponden a fósiles y 595 a organismos actuales, que fueron nombrados a partir de personajes reales o imaginarios, objetos, compañías comerciales, juegos de palabras, divertimentos sonoros o expresiones con doble significado. Entre las personas distinguidas por estos taxones destacan notablemente los artistas (músicos, actores, escritores, pintores) y, en menor medida, políticos, grandes científicos o divulgadores, así como diversos activistas. De entre los personajes u obras de ficción resaltan los derivados de ciertas obras literarias, películas o series de televisión, además de variadas mitologías propias de las diversas culturas. Los taxones que conllevan una terminología erótica o sexual más o menos explícita, también ocupan un lugar destacado en estas listas. Obviamente, el conjunto de estas excentricidades nomenclaturales, muchas de las cuales bordean el buen gusto y puntualmente rebasan las recomendaciones éticas de los códigos internacionales de nomenclatura, representan una ínfima minoría entre los casi dos millones de especies descritas hasta ahora. -

South Gippsland are described and assigned an early Tremadoc age approximately Kaineila meridionalis zone of Argentina. It is impossible to correlate directly with any known Australian and sequence but indirectly it is considered older than La 1 .5 zone of the Victorian graptolite sequence ap- proximately contemporaneous with the Oneolodus bkuspaius-Drepanodus simplex zone of western Queensland. Four new genera, Natmus (Hystricuridae), Barachyhipposiderus (Harpedidae), and Landyia and lictorispina (Pilekiidae) are erected with eleven new species, N. viclns, N. tuberus, B. logimus, L. elizabelhae, V. holmesorum, Neougnosms eckurdti, Onychopyge parkerae, Pseudokainellu diggerensis, Austraioharpes singleioni, A. expansus, and Proioplionwrops lindneri. Baltica except for Baltoscandia was subject to an early Tremadocian immigration of trilobites similar to that on other plates. In Baltoscandia the Olenid biofacies lingered on until it was replaced by the late Tremadocian Ceratopyge biofacies. For the rest of the time (Floian to mid-Darriwilian), Baltoscandia had fairly monotonous lithologies and faunas, constituting a single Asaphid biofacies with lateral variations expressed as differences largely in the relative abundance of species. In the South Urals immigration started in the earliest Tremadocian with fairly rich deep-water faunas. A poorer fauna is known from the Polar Urals. A slightly younger, sparse fauna is known from Paj-Khoj. Over most of the Ural border north of the South Urals there was a further development of first a Ceratopyge biofacies, then an eastern Asaphid biofacies, together with more siliciclastic input to the lithofacies and with fewer asaphids than in Baltoscandia. In the South Urals there was a development in the Darriwilian of a Cheirurid biofacies following the Ceratopyge biofacies. -

For further information contact the UOW Library: [email protected] Phylum arthropoda, subphylum trilobitomorpha: trilobites Abstract This volume is the second of three that provide a complete review and inventory of New Zealand's entire living and fossil biodiversity - an international effort involving more than 220 New Zealand and overseas specialists and the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. Together, the three volumes will list every one of the almost 55,000 known species of New Zealand's animals, plants, fungi and micro-organisms. Volume 2 mostly deals with the major branch of the animal kingdom known as Ecdysozoa (moulting animals), which includes arachnids, centipedes and millipedes, crustaceans and insects. It also includes the enigmatic phylum Chaetognatha (arrow worms) and concludes with a chapter on the fossil traces - ichnofossils - of ancient animal activities. All three volumes are affiliated with Species 2000, an international scientific project with the long-term goal of enumerating all known species on Earth into one seamless list - the Catalogue of Life, a kind of online biological telephone directory.To date, only New Zealand has compiled a checklist of its entire biota. -

This fossil is a fragment of a branched axis resembling similar ones from the Klabava Formation interpreted before as possible octocorals. This association provides evidence for a partly epibenthic mode of life for some agnostids.
