Upphitun fyrir The Beatles- umfjöllun. Myndin til vinstri er af hljómsveitinni Badfinger sem Sir Paul McCartney vildi sjálfur að yrði arftaki The Beatles og samdi fyrir að minnsta kosti einn söng „Come And Get It“ sem sum okkar þekkjum. Lengi leitaði fólkið leiða til koma félögunum í The Beatles saman. Sir Paul samdi fyrir þá sönginn „Come And Get It“- og sá um upptökur á lagi sínu í þeirra flutningi. Mick Jagger söngvari hljómsveitarinnar The Rolling Stones hefur ásamt hljómsveit sinni verið mörgum öðrum söngvurum og hljómsveitum sérstök fyrirmynd. Spáð var af sumum á sinni tíð að ætti þessi hljómsveit að verða eitthvað nafn yrði hún að láta þennan gríðar munnstóra söngvara sinn hætta. Þetta er haft eftir manni sem sá sveitina í sjónvarpi árið 1963 og hljómsveitin enn að mestu óþekkt. Fullyrða má að velgengni The Rolling Stones hefði aldrei orðið sama án beinar þátttöku ágæts Mick Jagger og ljóst að ekki ratast mönnum alltaf satt orð á munn né að geta sér rétt til um hvað verða skal.

  • Badfinger: La Maldición De Los “Nuevos Beatles”

This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in Cataloging & Classification Quarterly on 21 Dec. 2015, available online: http://www.tandfonline.com/10.1080/01639374.2015.1105898. Popular Music in FRBR and RDA: Toward User-Friendly and Cataloger-Friendly Identification of Works Kevin Kishimoto (University of Chicago) & Tracey Snyder (Cornell University) Abstract: The gradual adoption since 2010 of the content standard Resource Description and Access, based on the conceptual model Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records, has brought change to many areas of library cataloging, including popular music. In particular, the cataloging community has had to grapple with new practices in assigning access points for resources once considered simple, such as popular music albums containing songs written by people other than the featured recording artist. This article outlines some of the difficulties encountered and offers a principled approach to cataloging popular music that would reduce cataloger burden and reconcile catalog data with users' expectations. INTRODUCTION Who can forget the deliciously awkward scene in the 2001 romantic comedy Bridget Jones’s Diary in which the hapless title character performs a badly out-of-tune rendition of the classic ballad “Without You” at a party at the office, with a smoking cigarette in her hand and at least a few drinks in her system? If you grew up in, or were at least present for, the 1970s, you probably recognized this as the late Harry Nilsson’s hit single from 1971. If you were young in the 1990s, you may instead have recognized this as Mariah Carey’s hit single from 1994.

1 PLAYLIST April 27th 2016 9AM 2 The Beatles - Revolution 1 - The Beatles (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John The first song recorded during the sessions for the “White Album.” At the time of its recording, this slower version was the only version of John Lennon’s “Revolution,” and it carried that titled without a “1” or a “9” in the title. Recording began on May 30, 1968, and 18 takes were recorded. On the final take, the first with a lead vocal, the song continued past the 4 1/2 minute mark and went onto an extended jam. It would end at 10:17 with John shouting to the others and to the control room “OK, I’ve had enough!” The final six minutes were pure chaos with discordant instrumental jamming, plenty of feedback, percussive clicks (which are heard in the song’s introduction as well), and John repeatedly screaming “alright” and moaning along with his girlfriend, Yoko Ono. Ono also spoke random streams of consciousness on the track such as “if you become naked.” This bizarre six-minute section was clipped off the version of what would become “Revolution 1” to form the basis of “Revolution 9.” Yoko’s “naked” line appears in the released version of “Revolution 9” at 7:53. The Beatles - Blackbird - The Beatles (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul Another Paul McCartney solo performance for the “White Album.” Paul wrote “Blackbird” at his Scottish farm house and the song was started and finished in 32 takes, 11 being complete run-throughs of the song, on June 10, 1968.

1 Playlist April 23rd 2017 9AM The Beatles – I’ll Follow The Sun – LIVE @ The BBC 100% pure McCartney. Written pre- Beatles? Recorded Oct. 18th, 1964. Musicians: Paul McCartney – lead vocal, acoustic guitar; John Lennon – harmony vocal, acoustic guitar; George Harrison – lead guitar; Ringo Starr – knees(?) This was written in the late-fifties when Paul was sixteen years old (not bad for a little kid – I didn’t learn to ride a bike ‘til I was twenty!). Pete Best remembered that he used to busk it on the piano, in-between sets at The Kaiserkeller. It may well be the earliest song that they ever committed to tape. Nobody’s sure what Ringo’s playing, but he might be pounding out the beat on his knees. (Or maybe it’s someone else’s knees!) McCartney 1.00 Lead vocal Paul US - Capitol LP Beatles '65 The Beatles - I’m A Loser - Beatles For Sale (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John Recorded in eight takes on August 14, 1964. Written mostly by John Lennon. The song style, more autobiographical and introspective than the “yeah, yeah, yeah” pop the group had previously recorded, was heavily influenced by the work of Bob Dylan. Paul McCartney called it “a folk song gone pop.” The Beatles debuted “I’m A Loser” on ABC’s “Shindig” program, an appearance taped in London and airing on October 7. The song was performed during the Beatles’ European Tour commencing June 20, 1965, but was not on the set list for the U.S. shows two months later. John’s harmonica solo was a last minute addition to the song, appearing first in Take 6.

  • From Badfinger: Joey Molland by RM Engelman
The "Good Guy" from Badfinger: Joey Molland By R.M. Engelman In 1968 the young Liverpool band The Iveys, had an unthinkable thing happen. Manager Bill Collins invited Beatles' assistant Mal Evans and Apple Records A&R man Peter Asher (Peter & Gordon) to hear the band at a gig at the Marquee Club. Evans kept pushing un- til the Beatles individually agreed to sign the band. The band was signed and released the single "Maybe Tomorrow". in 1969 their name was changed to Badfinger (via John Lennon's one finger piano ditty, "Bad Finger Boogie"), Paul McCartney offered up the song "Come And Get It", and Joey Molland, a member of various local bands as guitarist/singer from Liverpool passed the audition. Despite Badfinger's considerable early success, throughout the years, they suffered financial and personal tradgedies, with Joey being the only surviving member carrying on their legacy, much of which is detailed in Joey's book Badfinger and Beyond. I caught up with Joey at the Rubber City Beatlefest in Akron, Ohio with the 60’s-70’s tribute group The ReBeats as his backing band. Now, approaching his 68th birthday, Joey (the last surviving member of the band), is celebrating life by signing, taking photos, and joking with fans, singing and playing, and clowning onstage in between songs. He’s constantly on the road performing, and is happy and grateful to meet each and every fan. Badfinger was recently brought back to popularity when their song "Baby Blue" was used in the last episode of the hit TV show Breaking Bad.
