PAGE 4 THE 1996 MISS CAMP AMERICA® PAGEANT THE THRILL OF VICTORY ... THE AGONY OF DE'FEET n behalf of the Miss Camp America's , Inc., I am pleased to Owelcome you to the 28th Annual Miss Camp America's Pageant. This year we pay tribute to five deserving Houston service organizations, The Assistance Fund, Bering Care Center, Body Positive, The Names Project and The AIDS Foundation-Stone Soup with this gala event. Tonight, they will each receive financial grants from Miss Camp America's Foundation to assist them in their fight against AIDS. The spirit of Miss Camp America® has spread throughout our community and made all of us who are a part of it better human beings, made life for many of our friends and loved ones a little brighter, and hopefully, the prospect of a future without AIDS more than just a dream. To each and everyone of you, thank you for responding to our invitation and for sharing this very important evening with us. We hope that you enjoy the performance, learn a little something new, and leave with the resolve that we can all help make this a better world. This evening's performance is a labor of love for the members and volunteers who conceived and executed this pageant over many hours of planning and practice. It includes members who have full- time jobs, limited budgets and the strength and desire to live in difficult times. To you, I extend my heartfelt thanks. Now sit back and feast your eyes on this awesome spectacle that you're about to witness, "The Thrill of Victory ... the Agony of De' Feet".

PAGE 6 TH E 1996 MISS CAMP AMERICA® PAGEANT THE THRILL OF VICTORY ... THE AGONY OF DE'FEET my reign as Miss Camp America comes to a dazzling close, I am reminded of A the love and support I have received throughout the year from my friends and those dear to me. To the members of MCAF, your talent and spirit has been an inspiration to me and the community. A special thank you to the "Top Nine" for your hard work and dedication. Your love and affection has been and continues to be a strengtpening force for me each and every day. To all the organizations in Houston who are famous for raising money and consciousness in the fight against AIDS, thank you for supporting us tonight as we camp it up, go for outrageous costumes, mile-high hairdos and give you-our audience-a couple of hours to forget your troubles. Our goal is to make you laugh. It's as simple as that! Take 55 guyswith a zest for life and laughs, throw in a lust for show tunes, stitch it all together with miles of sequins, and you have Miss Camp America. Like the song says, "So what if I love each sparkle and each bangle" ... I am what I am-deal with it!!!

Love and kisses,

BUFFY BAYOU MISS CAMP AMERICA 1996

THE 1996 MISS CAMP AMERICA® PAGEANT THE THRILL OF VICTORY ... THE AGONY OF DE'FEET PAGE 7 1969n a small group of friends gathered to watch the MissAmerica Pageant® at our home. At that time, Pat and I never thought that Iit would evolve into the Miss Camp America Foundation, Ine. as we know it today. Seeing Miss Camp America® become a charitable foundation has been a highlight in my life, and it has been additionally rewarding to give the Houston community a night of laughter for the last twenty eight years. With the ongoing support of you, our friends, and the tireless efforts of the members, past and present, we have been able to make a positive contribution to the community. The statement, "TOGETHER WE CAN MAKEA DIFFERENCE," still scores a perfect lOin my book! Because of you, our audience, it is all possible. For that, "I thank you!!!" Having the Olympics in the United States this year sparked excitement throughout the whole country, including Houston, Texas, and the Miss Camp America Foundation. As the pageant planning committee assembled in February to create the 28th pageant, they literally took the Olympic Torch and ran with it! Special THANKS go to the committee, and my right hands - Gerry Clifton, Stephanie Mitchell, Harold Myrick, Pat Petty, Bob Skinner, Jeff Wilson, and Scott Wahl. For without you, this job would be impossible. Little did the International Olympic Committee know that one day "Show Business" would become an Olympic Event. Watch for our CAMPy interpretations: • Synchronized Swimming - Are those beached whales or our former winners? If these girls were in a pool of water, they'd be drowning! • Gymnastics - You call that floor exercise ... dancing? These are our "men" without the muscle. • Weight Lifting - Huh, 'bout the heaviest thing this cast has lifted is a fork to their mouths. These events may not score a perfect ten with the Olympic judges; but, the goal of the cast is to score a perfect ten on the entertainment scale with YOU tonight. By the way,our "Miss Camp" Olympians may look a little different than the athletes in Atlanta, and certainly different from the contestants in Atlantic City, but their efforts to "REACH FOR THE GOLD" are the same in our community. Each year Miss Camp America's brings something new and exciting to the stage and this year is no exception. Tonight, we are proud to present Mr. Danny Williams, cruise director and entertainer from RSVP Cruises, as our Master of Ceremonies. I would like to graciously thank Danny for volunteering his time and talent this evening! Now, after ten weeks of rehearsal, Ladies and Gentlemen, let the ceremonies begin, "THE 28th ANNUAL MISS CAMP AMERlCA® PAGEANT - The Thrill OfVictory ...The Agony of De'feet." It's Showtime ...

yfou think your middle name is "Camp", you should have known one of our members, the late PRINCESS PAZA MARCELLA BORGHESE TAYLOR. Back in the days when the MISS CAMP IAMERICA®PAGEANT was being presented to you in such lavish surroundings as the Hi-Kamp Club and the Texas State Hotel, Paza epitomized the spirit and fun that we are all about. We couldn't think of a more fitting tribute to Paza's memory than to establish an annual award in her name, to recognize the Miss Camp Americaw Foundation member who best exemplified the fine art of "CAMP" in the Princess Paza tradition. Thirteen honorees have previously been given this coveted award:

For twenty seven Tyears, the Miss Camp Americaw Pageant has brought to Houston audiences the final word in theatre - CAMP. And, it has proven to be a hit! The ultimate spoof on the Miss America® Pageant, the Miss Camp Americaw Pageant was founded in 1969 as a social club whose members had a "natural" penchant for theatrics. The show has become an integral part of the September scene in the style of La Cage Aux FolIes. The Pageant is both a triumph for fun and a triumph for the community. The organization has grown since its founding - both in size and focus. The Miss Camp America Foundation, Inc. has evolved into a major fund-raising force in HIV/ AIDS-related causes in the Houston community. The membership is proud of this commitment and applauds the community for generously supporting our efforts. Since June 1992, when the Foundation was established and became a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization, $145,000 has been donated to AIDS-related causes. We are glad you chose tojoin us for an unforgettable evening of the animated antics of this outrageous all-male revue. And the crowning of the 29th Miss Camp America® winner. Miss Camp America®... a Houston tradition. If you like "Broadway,"you'll LOVE Miss Camp Americas'. Thanks again for your support of our charitable and entertainment efforts.
