Dolcetto D'alba DOC
Dolcetto d'Alba DOC The Bongiovanni farmstead dates back to the early 1950s, when it was purchased by Giovanni Bongiovanni. Giovanni planted a Nebbiolo vineyard where there had been nothing but untamed woodland. He struck gold, yet never bottled his own wine. When he died, the estate was left to his daughter Olga who grew to cover prime hillside vineyards of the Langhe for her own wines. Here, the family only planted native grape varieties and one noble international grape, Cabernet Sauvignon. A good number of innovations have come about thanks to Olga’s nephew, winemaker Davide Mozzone. The Bongiovanni philosophy aims to minimize outside intervention and maximize character and terroir, steering clear of stereotypical wines. While not certified organic, the winery proudly participates in Piedmont’s Green Experience, which is a network of sustainable and organic growers. Dolcetto was and is still considered the wine you’d drink on a lazy Sunday in any given osteria in the stunning countryside of Piedmont. And in fact, because of its versatility and capacity to adapt to very different soil types, it is one of the most widely cultivated varieties in the Langhe area. Bongiovanni has two small parcels in Roddino and Castiglione Falletto with vines aging ten to forty years old. After harvest, the wine ages strictly in stainless steel, preserving the color, aromas and flavors. The wine is neither clarified nor filtered before bottling. Wine exported to: Canada, Puerto Rico, Singapore Most recent awards JAMES SUCKLING: 90 INTERNATIONAL WINE CELLAR: -
Dolcetto D'alba
BAROLO DOLCETTO D’ALBA DENOMINAZIONE DI ORIGINE CONTROLLATA 2018 We love Dolcetto. In the local tradition, this grape was cultivated on the best exposures, just above Nebbiolo parcels. Resonating with our own heritage, we dedicate only fine blocks to this variety, so to let it express with plenitude. DESCRIPTION: Historically, Dolcetto was cultivated in prime land, just above Nebbiolo vineyards. At Vajra, we remain loyal to this approach, farming this grape in places of true vocation. Our Dolcetto d’Alba DOC is a homage to a wonderful, often overlooked heritage of Piemonte. It is a pure, vibrant and fruity expression of the variety, ideal for many food pairings from appetizers to pastas and vegetables and light protein such as white meats and egg-based dishes. VARIETY: 100% Dolcetto. VINEYARD AND TERROIR: Multiple estate vineyards with an average age of 25 years. VINTAGE: 2018 was marked by an abundant flowering, a gradual ripening and one of the latest harvests of the decade. Precipitations were exceptional during the entire year, as the dedication of our vineyard team. Such determined work and a meticulous sorting gifted us with healthy grapes, with delicate perfumes and a juice that was pink already upon crushing. This harvest was particularly favorable for the best exposed vineyards, those at high elevation, and the late ripening varietals - but it is giving us great surprises also on the whites and Dolcetto. All the wines are fragrant, deliciously aromatic, with elegant tannins. 2018 reminds 2016 and perhaps even more 2004, and promises to become an elegant and classic vintage. HARVEST AND WINEMAKING: Dolcetto is picked in the first half of September. -

Wines by the Glass —
The Town Company menus draw from a range of historic and cultural inspirations that have come to shape the Kansas City experience as we know it today. This includes a commitment to local ingredients and handmade items from our very own KC makers. The wine program is a continuation of that path, with a focus on indigenous varietals, complimented by exemplary expressions of those grapes from around the winemaking world. It is a reflection on the importance of agriculture and how farmers, vineyards and winemaking traditions have come to shape the way we learn about and enjoy wine. The bottle selections are listed according to body style. As you descend through each section, the gradients will guide you in correlation to the weight of the wine. Here at The Town Company, we believe the dining experience is enhanced by a natural progression of temperatures, textures and colors. We encourage you to explore new sensations while also staying true to what you enjoy. - All wines come from organic, biodynamic and or/sustainable farming practices. - - All wines are produced from hand picked grapes. - - All wines are produced with minimal intervention. - - All wines use indigenous yeasts. - WINES BY THE GLASS — CHARDONNAY Domaine des Terres Dorées, Charme, Crémant de Bourgogne, Beaujolais, France 16 16 LAMBRUSCO DI SORBARA Famiglia Carafoli, L’Onesta, Emilia-Romagna, Italy NV 12 RIESLING Teutonic Wine Co, Pear Blossom Vineyard, Columbia Gorge, Oregon 19 14 MACABEU Rexach Baques, La Mina, Penedès, Spain 18 15 BIANCHETTA GENOVESE Enoteca Bisson, Ü Pastine, Liguria, Italy 18 16 CHENIN BLANC Broc Cellars, Frei Vineyard, Solano County, California 17 13 PAÏS Tinto de Rulo, Pipeño, Bio-Bio Valley, Chile 19 13 GARNACHA Bodega Nietos de Sra. -

Highland Springs Region of Lake County
Evaluation of 10 Wine Grape Cultivars in the Highland Springs Region of Lake County Glenn McGourty, Steve Tylicki, Rachel Elkins UCCE Mendocino and Lake Counties Prepared for the Lake County Winegrape Commission Summary Ten winegrape cultivars were selected for evaluation and planted in a commercial vineyard in the Highland Springs region of Big Valley, Lake County, planted on Clear Lake Clay soil. The growing season at Highland Springs begins with bud break normally in early April and harvest occurs in October through November. Cultivars evaluated included Pinotage, Barbera, Dolcetto, Sangiovese, Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet sauvignon, Cortese, Cinsault, Nebbiolo, and Mourvedre. Mourvedre proved not to be reliably winter hardy, and most vines died. Cortese was incorrectly identified by UC Foundation Plant Material Services, and is in reality the Austrian cultivar Lemberger or Blaufrankisch. Throughout the course of the trial, achieving at least 23.5% brix sugar content was difficult for most of the cultivars tested. Only Pinotage reached full maturity in more than one of the three years that data was collected. Based on our experiences, all other cultivars are not suited to the site unless viticultural practices to enhance ripening are further investigated and adapted. Introduction Lake County is a fast growing sub-appelation of the prestigious North Coast American Viticultural Area. The region is high elevation, with most vineyards above 1300 feet; and the climate continental in nature, with cool, wet winters and short (for California) warm summers. The Highland Springs area is located in the south and west part of Big Valley, and the soils that this vineyard is planted on are representative of many sites in Lake County that are often planted to pears. -
