We wish a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters from Flackwell Heath who have made the long journey for this fixture and wish them Senior Section a safe journey home. It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of our former Chairman John Reynolds. First Team – TBA John was Chairman for three seasons from 1994-95 through to 1996-97 having joined the Club in First Team Tracksuits & T-shirts – C.S. Building Services the early 1980s when son Marcus was playing for our Youth Team (the Club had just one youth side at that time), a side managed by myself. When I went to University a month or so into the and Macmillan Cancer Support season, John and my father took over the running of the Youth side that was at the time playing Reserves – Ganges Indian Cuisine in the Mid Wilts League. The side included some very good players including Danny Groom, Steve Thomas, Paul Gerrish, Dave Alstowe and Gavin Russ, as well as Johns son Marcus. The Under 18 Floodlit – Quickmovenow.com side did well in the league and also made the Cup final at Devizes Town where they met Devizes Saints in the final back May 1981, a game which I still hold a copy of the match day programme. Ladies – Aftech Sheet metal & fabrications and Following this initial involvement in the Youth set up John remained involved in the Club and, as bristol batteries noted above, eventually took over the helm as Chairman. After stepping down as Chairman John continued writing match reports for the programme and was still writing the reports when the Clubs website first came into existence. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad YOUTH SECTION time. Having not made a First Team game for some time it was good to catch two games last week Under 18 – Aftech Limited played down my neck of the woods. On a cold Wednesday night it was disappointing to see the Under 16 Girls - SciMAT Ltd side go down 3-0 at Ascot after such an excellent first half. It was an eventful game and Scoops match report on the disappointing evening at Ascot Racecourse is included in tonights Under 16 - K & M Developments, C.S. Building Services, programme. The 3-0 score certainly flattered the home side who played the whole of the second A.T. Kitchin Homes half with just ten men and the last couple of minutes with just nine. Once we went behind you could see the confidence visibly drain from the side and this was carried over into the first half on Under 15 - GSL UK Limited Saturday away at Rayners Lane in the cup. In what was probably the worst half I have seen from Under 14 Girls - TBA the side all season, there was a total lack of confidence on the ball and a lot of arguing amongst the players and we really did not get much of a look in against what was a mid-table Division Under 14A – The Barber Shop, One side. A stern talk at half time from coach Turner seemed to do the trick though, as a much PAS Construction, CCTV Nationwide, improved second half saw us through to the next round courtesy of another two goals from Sam Collier, taking his total in all competitions to 16 for the season. Surehome Construction, Wason & Webb Looking at what is in tonights programme, the From the Archives feature this week looks back Under 14B – TBA to 1960-1 when Mickey Jefferies was banging in the goals for Wootton Bassett Town in the Under 12 – C.S. Building Services Wiltshire League Premier Division. The Player Profile this week features Craig Bowden. The August edition of the Clubs newsletter Touchline is once again featured and the Moonraker Under 11 – Total Value Consultancy, I.C.C. Car & features the heroics this week from Swindon Supermarine in the FA Cup. There is the usual Commercial Vehicle Body Repairs, updated league table of the Clubs own Fantasy Football League, which sees yours truly jump up into fourth place but Ladies Section Head Bryan Wood continues to lead the way. World of Babcock Homesafe everyday Soccer reproduces an article that Scoop wrote for the London School of Economics Newspaper Under 10A - Quattro Group, High Motive on the subject of the England football team whilst the Youth Section page includes a round-up from the last two weeks of action. Under 10B - WGS Power & Lighting Ltd, High Motive Please note that the First Team are again at home on Tuesday night when a much improved Under 9 - S.D.C. South Marston Oxford City Nomads are the visitors to Rylands Way fresh from an excellent win in midweek Under 8 - TBA against Reading Town We can certainly expect a much tougher encounter than the last time the two sides met and your support would be very much appreciated from Dave and the team again Training Equipment – Don Rogers Sports on Tuesday night, 7.45pm kick-off for this one. First Team Training Kit Sponsor – Milfed Enjoy the game and cheer the lads on to three more points. Programme Printing & Sponsor – Cats Solutions Best wishes And all our First Team player sponors and Mark all our groundside board sponsors World of Soccer THIS WEEK FEATURING........... Recent artice by Stuart Smedley for the LSE Newspaper It was quite fitting that less than 24 hours after Gary Lineker asked the poignant question whether England could win the next World Cup in a true tear-jerker of a documentary that current Three Lions boss Fabio Capello called up uncapped, 33-year-old forward Kevin Davies. That is after attempting, unsuccessfully it must be added, to lure Emile Heskey out of international retirement. Surely that answered the question posed by the jug-eared face of Walkers Crisps and Match of the Day there and then, by demonstrating how bare the cupboard the Italian has to choose from actually is. When youre considering giving debuts to players closer to the end, rather than the beginning, of their careers it suggests the future is rather bleak. Merely to float that particular question though, after the shower of s**t produced during the summer in South Africa, was ludicrous. Particularly so given Lineker witnessed firsthand the tragicomedy enacted by Capellos merry men, most of whom comprised what was billed as English footballs Golden Generation. Having failed miserably to live up to that hype not just this year, but at every tournament since 2002, failure to qualify for the 2008 European Championships in Austria and Switzerland being the nadir, a less precious metal should really prefix the term generation used to describe the era Gerrard, Lampard, Owen, Terry et al have been a part of.

As a Geordie and a Newcastle United supporter, I always kept a keen interest on what was happening on Tyneside in the early stages of my career at Southampton and Blackburn. Although it was common for clubs to sign foreign players in the early 1990s, the market wasn’t saturated the way it is now, but it was certainly unusual for teams to invest in foreign goalkeepers. And Pavel’s arrival on Tyneside certainly caused a stir. He turned up on the club’s doorstep when it was struggling at the wrong end of the old Second Division. It must have been a baptism of fire for the young Czech goalkeeper. Not only did he have to adapt to a new style of football he had to settle in to a new town and culture.

Athletes and spectators from all around the world will arrive in the United Kingdom to be part of the Games. This unique event allows different cultures to come together and mix (for athletes this will mean living together in the Olympic Village). For many athletes, the Olympics are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent their country in a global event. Many migrants and refugees have risen to that stage and represented the country that granted them asylum. In 2008, Lopez Lomong (born in what is now South Sudan) was given the honour of representing his country of asylum, the United States. He was also chosen to be the US flag bearer. The basketball star Luol Deng will be representing Team GB at the Olympics. Deng fled his home country, Sudan, as a child and sought asylum with his family in the UK. Another refugee athlete hit the headlines in 2012: Fabrice Muamba, the Bolton Wanderers football player who suffered a heart attack while playing an FA Cup match. Despite having arrived in Britain at the age of 11, unable to speak any English, Muamba went on to achieve 10 GCSEs and A-levels in English, French and Maths.

The Tons kick off the 2021-22 challenge with a 1-0 win against ESL club challengers, Hoddesdon Town FC, in the Extra Preliminary Round. Today we play AFC Dunstable CO WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL CLAPTON FOOTBALL CLUB OFFICIAL HOME OF THE “TONS” Good afternoon and welcome to The Terence McMillan Stadium for our FA Cup Preliminary Qualifying Round match against AFC Dunstable. We extend a warm welcome to their players, officials and supporters and we hope you enjoy their time with us. AFC Dunstable plays in the Southern League Central Division, which is a step above us - so we need to be on our game today. I quickly realised that we were playing a bigger club when they contacted us and said they were bringing 10 committee members and will there be room to park their coach. That's the great thing about the FA Cup - smaller clubs getting home draws against bigger ones. I'm writing these notes after a late night in Harwich, where we beat Little Oakley 5-3, giving us 3 valuable league points, oh, what mood swings I'm having already this season! After our home defeat on Saturday against St Margaretsbury, we were all so low.

THE CITIZENS POST WCFC v Paulton Rovers FC Saturday 15th September 2018 Evo-Stik League South Division One South Winchester City Football Club is a committee run members club and as such is an unincorporated association. THE CITIZENS POST FROM THE BOARDROOM Good Afternoon Everyone! Welcome to today’s Evo-Stik League South Division One South fixture between Winchester City FC and Paulton Rovers FC. We give a particularly warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters that have come to Hampshire from Paulton today. We wish you an enjoyable afternoon with us and a safe journey home. We have just about recovered from the dramatic night on Tuesday that saw us make it through to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, overcoming Frome Town after extra- time. And what a game it was! A winner in the second-half of extra-time having gone behind in the first-half. We hit the post twice. Both teams missed a penalty and Frome had a man sent off in stoppage time in extra time. And that’s before we mention the dramatic floodlight fire. Work is ongoing to repair to damaged light with an update due next week. As a result of the unforeseen circumstances, the Hampshire Senior Cup tie with Hartley Wintney has now been moved from Tuesday 18th September to Tuesday 2nd October. So after today’s game, we move on to the FA Youth Cup on Thursday 20th September, when we entertain Moneyfields. Just two days later, the Citizens travel to Merthyr Town in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
