ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION SCHOOL OF FAMILY, CONSUMER, AND NUTRITION SCIENCES

LOCATION: School of Family, Consumer, and Nutrition Sciences Northern University DeKalb IL 60115

POSITION: Assistant Professor – Child Development

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Child Development, collaborate with faculty in coordinating child development laboratory, provide teaching support for early childhood studies program, some off campus teaching may be included; maintain an active program of scholarship in child development; and participate in departmental and university committee work including curriculum and program development and graduate and undergraduate student advisement.

STARTING DATE: August 16, 2007

RANK/SALARY: Assistant Professor, nine-month academic year appointment, tenure track. Salary commensurate with education and experience. Summer teaching availability is based upon the need for courses and available funding.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Doctorate in child development, child and family studies, or closely related field by time of appointment, evidence of research potential, college teaching ability, and direct classroom teaching experience with groups of infants, toddlers, or young children in a family-oriented program. Experience in college teaching of relevant course work, including supervision of child development practicum students, preferred.

UNIVERSITY: Northern Illinois University is located 65 miles west of and has an enrollment of approximately 23,000 students. The School of Family, Consumer, and Nutrition Sciences is one of five units in the College of Health & Human Sciences. The School offers B.S. and M.S. degrees and has a COAMFTE accredited master’s specialization in marriage and family therapy. The school has approximately 80 graduate students and 530 undergraduates. The family and child studies area has approximately 160 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. The School has 21 full-time faculty members, an undergraduate academic advisor, and five supportive professional staff.
