Called to be Missionary Disciples Brothers and Sisters, This weekend we celebrate the beginning of our new parish of Our Lady of Grace and St. Sylvester. We are blessed with the presence of our vicar Bishop Robert Lombardo. He is the rep- resentative of our Cardinal Blase Cupich. This is an important moment in our history as Our La- dy of Grace and St Sylvester parish unite to form a new parish. At the moment until we decide on our permanent name we shall be called the Parish of Our Lady of Grace and St. Sylvester. We are one parish with two worship sites one at Our Lady of Grace church and the other at St. Syl- vester church. This weekend I am as well humbled and grateful to be installed as the pastor of our new parish. I accept this calling from the Lord with gratefulness and humility. Please pray for me.

God warns Ezekiel that he will need to speak out against a stubborn and rebellious people. Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, rebels who have rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have revolted against me to this very day. Hard of face and obstinate of heart are they to whom I am send- ing you. Jesus meets with opposition when preaching in his hometown. They said, “Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands! Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Si- mon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Saint Paul speaks of the hardships he faces. I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong. Speaking out on behalf of our Faith can be as difLicult for us now as it was for them then. Let us ask the Lord to give us the resolve we need to give witness to our faith
As we begin our new journey together we have to Lirst celebrate us as a community. We are diverse in many ways. We come from many deep traditions and ethnicities. It is how God made us and we shall always celebrate our diversity. Our unity comes from our relationship with Jesus Christ. Christ has called each one of us to be a missionary disciple. Jesus asked Peter three times “do you love me?” As your pastor I will serve you wholeheartedly because I love God and I love you. We are called to renew our love for God and each other. We are going to invest our treasures and talents to our new calling because of our love for God. Every time you give your donation do it out of your love for God. When we go to mass to worship we do it because we love God and we love our com- munity. We have to bring this love of God to the service of the poor in our community. We have to see Jesus in those who are hungry and feed them, sick and minister to them, thirsty and give them something to drink, naked and cloth them, those in prison and visit them, strangers and invite them in. We are united towards the mission Christ has entrusted us. Let us rebuild our new parish around this mission, never forgetting our unity in Christ Jesus through the celebration of Eucharist. May Our Lady of Grace and St. Sylvester continue to intercede for us. Amen
In Christ Jesus, Fr. Sam Llamados a hacer discípulos misioneros. Hermanos y hermanas, Este Lin de semana celebramos el comienzo de nuestra nueva parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia y San Silvestre. Tenemos la suerte de contar con la presencia de nuestro vicario, el Obispo Robert Lombardo. E%l es el representante de nuestro Cardenal Blase Cupich. Este es un momento im- portante en nuestra historia, ya que la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia y de San Silvestre se unen para formar una nueva parroquia. Por el momento, hasta que decidamos nuestro nombre per- manente, nos llamaremos Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia y San Silvestre. Somos una parro- quia con dos lugares de culto, uno en la iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia y otro en la iglesia de San Silvestre. Este Lin de semana también me siento honrado y agradecido por mi instalacion como párroco de nuestra nueva parroquia. Acepto este llamado del Señor con gratitud y humildad. Por favor recen por mı́.

Las escrituras de este Lin de semana nos recuerdan que hablar la palabra de Dios puede ser difı́cil. Dios ad- vierte a Ezequiel que tendrá que hablar en contra de un pueblo rebelde y obstinado. Hijo de hombre, te envío a los israelitas, rebeldes que se rebelaron contra mí; ellos y sus antepasados se han rebelado contra mí hasta el día de hoy. Duros de rostro y obstinados de corazón son aquellos a quienes te envío. Jesús encuentra oposición cuando predica en su ciudad natal. Dijeron: “¿De dónde sacó este hombre todo esto? ¿Qué tipo de sabiduría se le ha dado? ¡Qué hazañas ha realizado sus manos! ¿No es el carpintero, el hijo de María, y el hermano de Jaco- bo, José, Judas y Simón? ¿Y no están sus hermanas aquí con nosotros? Y se sintieron ofendidos por él. San Pablo habla de las diLicultades que enfrenta. Me contento con las debilidades, los insultos, las penurias, las persecu- ciones y las limitaciones por causa de Cristo; porque cuando soy débil, entonces soy fuerte. Hablar en nombre de nuestra Fe puede ser tan difı́cil para nosotros ahora como lo fue para ellos entonces. Pidamos al Señor que nos dé la determinación que necesitamos para dar testimonio de nuestra fe.
Al comenzar nuestro nuevo viaje juntos, primero debemos de aceptarnos como comunidad. Somos diversos de muchas formas. Tenemos muchas tradiciones profundas y venimos de diferentes etnicidades. Ası́ es co- mo Dios nos hizo y siempre celebraremos nuestra diversidad. Nuestra unidad proviene de nuestra relación con Jesucristo. Cristo nos ha llamado a cada uno de nosotros a ser discı́pulos misioneros. Jesús le preguntó a Pedro tres veces: "¿Me amas?" Como su pastor, le serviré de todo corazón porque amo a Dios y los amo a usted. Estamos llamados a renovar nuestro amor por Dios y por los demás. Vamos a invertir nuestros teso- ros y talentos en nuestro nuevo llamado debido a nuestro amor por Dios. Cada vez que hagan su donación, hágalo por amor a Dios. Cuando vamos a misa a adorar lo hacemos porque amamos a Dios y amamos a nuestra comunidad. Tenemos que llevar este amor de Dios al servicio de los pobres en nuestra comunidad.
Tenemos que ver a Jesús en los que tienen hambre y alimentarlos, en los enfermos y atenderlos, en los que tienen sed y darles de beber, en los que están desnudos y vestirlos, en los presos y visitarlos, en los extran- jeros, e invitarlos a entrar. Estamos unidos hacia la misión que Cristo nos ha conLiado. Reconstruyamos nuestra nueva parroquia en torno a esta misión, sin olvidar nunca nuestra unidad en Cristo Jesús a través de la celebración de la Eucaristı́a. Que Nuestra Señora de Gracia y San Silvestre continúen intercediendo por nosotros. Amen
