Dr. Tadesse Woldemariam Gole (Advisor) ____________ ___________ ii Abstract Plant Diversity and Ethnobotanical Study of Traditional Medicinal and Wild Edible Plants in Yayo and Hurumu Districts, Ilu Abba Bor Zone of Oromia Region, Southwest Ethiopia Garuma Gerbaba Chemeda, Ph.D. Dissertation Addis Ababa University, 2020 This study was conducted in Yayo and Hurumu districts, Oromia Region, Southwest Ethiopia during 2016 to 2019 with the aim of investigating plant diversity and ethnomedicinal and wild edible plants. To collect vegetation data, a total of 96 quadrats in which 20 m x 20 m major quadrat, while 5 m x 5 m, and 2 m x 2 m subplots were established for shrubs and herbaceous plant species respectively. Transects were laid at a distance of 500 m apart from each other, the first line transect was established randomly. The successive quadrats were established along altitudinal gradients. Altitude, latitude, longitude were recorded using GPS. Plant species with DBH >2.5 cm, height >2 m were documented. For those plants having a height < 2 m and DBH < 2.5 cm were recorded as seedlings or saplings. For ethnobotanical data collections, 396 informants were interviewed. 52 key informants were purposively selected. FGD, participant observation and market survey were made. For plant diversity analysis, Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’) was used. Community cluster analyses of the forests were performed with the help of R software. Density, frequency, DBH, IVI, and BA were computed. Descriptive techniques were also used for ethnobotanical data analysis. A total of 298 (184 from quadrats and 114 outside) plant species in 235 genera and 93 families were reported. Asteraceae was the most species rich family represented by 27 followed by Fabaceae that contributed 24 species. Six community types: Antiaris toxicaria - Celtis africana, Justicia schimperiana - Vepris dainellii, Carissa spinarum - Trichilia dregeana, Apodytes dimidiata - Croton macrostachyus, Rubus apetalus - Vernonia amygdalina, Clematis simensis - Trema orientalis community types were identified. The study area was characterized by diversified plant species with an average diversity index (H’) of 3.4. The local communities possess rich knowledge on the use of plants. A total of 172 plant species were used for the traditional medicine and 22 used as wild edible plants. The highest values of ICF (0.93) were recorded for gastro-intestinal ailments. The highest FL was recorded for Thalictrum rhynchocarpum (97%). Anthropogenic pressure including firewood and agricultural expansion were identified as the factors that could be seen as threats of plant species of the study area. This research was conducted to study the vascular plant composition, plant communities, diversity, conservation status, species richness pattern along elevation gradient, and spatiotemporal land use and land cover change. A total of 85 nested sample plots measuring 20 X 20 m, 5 X 5 m and 1 X 1 m were established for trees, shrubs, and herbs respectively. Topographic, edaphic and disturbance variables were also collected from each plot. IUCN Red List and a combination of density of mature individuals, habitat specificity, and species local range was considered to assess global and local rarity respectively. Two Landsat satellite imageries from 1986 (Thematic Mapper, TM) and 2017 (Operational Land Imager, OLI) were used. Aerial photographs were used for ground referencing of the 1986 satellite image.

    Salvia (Šalvěj) čeleď: Lamiaceae Rodové jméno pochází z latinského slova salvare = léčit. Vyskytuje se od mírného pásma po tropy. Může se jednat o jednoletku nebo trvalky, bylinu, polokeř nebo i keř. Povrch bývá ochlupený. Lodyhy jsou chutě větvené. Listy vyrůstají vstřícně, obvykle vytvářejí přízemní růžici, mohou být jednoduché, 3četné nebo i 1 - 2x zpeřené. Květenstvím je terminální nebo úžlabní hrozen, klas, lata nebo vrcholík, ty jsou dále složené z lichopřeslenů, listeny mohou být malé i velké, někdy barevné, vlastní květy jsou 5tičetné, kalich i koruna mají 2 pysky, kalich je trubkovitý, vejčitý, zvonkovitý nebo nálevkovitý, horní pysk celokrajný nebo 3zubý, spodní rozeklaný na 2 části anebo 2 zuby a koruna má spodní pysk 3laločný s větším středním lalokem (vzácně jsou všechny stejně velké). Plodem je tvrdka. Zpravidla vydává aroma. Existuje vnitrodruhový taxon: - 'Raspberry Royale' - kompaktní vzpřímený habitus; listy úzké, eliptické až vejčité, lepivé, aromatické, celokrajné, šedozelené, dlouhé do 3cm; květy tmavě červenorůžové Pěstujeme ji na záhoně na dobře osluněném místě. Po odkvětu nezapomeňte provést důkladný řez, aby hodně kvetla i příště. Vyhovují ji dobře propustné půdy. Množí se dělením nebo vyzrálými řízky. Salvia absconditiflora synonyma: S. cryptantha Salvia acerifolia Salvia acuminata oblasti: Jižní Amerika, Peru, SZ Jižní Amerika Roste v Peru v podobě keře, který může být i mírně šplhavý. Povrch je lepivě žláznatě ochlupený. Listy jsou srdčitě vejčité, špičaté až ocasovité, vroubkované, na horní straně draslavé, dlouhé 10 - 30cm, široké 6 - 13cm, spodní strana ochlupená, síťovitě žilnatá a řapíky jsou dlouhé 3 - 8cm. Květy vyrůstají po 6ks na až 2,5cm stopce v 2 - 4cm oddálených klubíčkách, listeny jsou podlouhlé, špičaté, opadavé, dlouhé 1 - 3cm, kalich má délku do 3cm, za plodu je trubkovitý, dlouhý 2,5cm, pysk špičatý, dlouhý 8mm, spodní zuby jsou prakticky srostlé, koruna červená, trubka dlouhá do 5cm, uvnitř hladká a pysky jsou dlouhé 1 - 1,5cm.

    ANNO 2021 LISTA DELLE VARIETA’ PRODOTTE IN VIVAIO I NOSTRI IBRIDI IBRIDI DI SALVIA OTTENUTI IN VIVAIO Si tratta di ibridi di varietà di salvia greggii o di salvia microphylla, nati da semi raccolti da varietà preesistenti e selezionati in vivaio, con portamento cespuglioso, foglie in genere profumate e a volte molto profumate, elevata rusticità (anche oltre -15°C) e fioriture da aprile fino al freddo intenso Da coltivare al sole e in mezz’ombra luminosa NOTA Le cultivar di salvia greggii si distinguono da quelle di salvia microphylla per l’aspetto delle foglie: nelle salvie che derivano da salvia greggii le foglie mantengono la caratteristica lucidità di quelle della specie, hanno in genere margine intero e sono lisce. Negli ibridi derivati da salvia microphylla la superficie della lamina si presenta bollosa e rugosa, il margine è spesso crenato anche se irregolarmente. Esistono naturalmente differenze più botanicamente corrette, ma qui bisognerebbe analizzare la struttura delle corolle e scendere in particolari troppo specifici e poco importanti dal punto di vista del giardiniere. Nelle descrizioni ci limiteremo ad accennare gli esiti dell’osservazione superficiale I nomi di fantasia, che sono stati scelti da noi per le diverse cultivar, fanno riferimento alla storia medioevale di Altopascio, comune della Lucchesia nel cui territorio è ubicato il vivaio Ibrido nato nel 2017 ma selezionato nel 2019 da semi provenienti dall’Argentina Foglia piccola allungata un po’ rugosa quindi una SALVIA varietà di salvia microphylla Venature marcate
