WaynesharedthatwhenhebecameChiefScoutExecutive,hewentastepfurtherandtrackeddownhisown Scoutmasterfrom50yearsago,foundthathewasstillalive,andbroughtthemtoanationalmeetingashisguests topubliclythankthemforwhattheydidforhim. Awards WorldPresidentFredBrenner&InternationalCommissionerBrianThiessenthenpresentedtheChiefwiththe CliffDochtermanAward,recognizinghisyearsofserviceasaRotarian,hisgenerositytotheFellowshipbyallow ingourdisplaysatnationalmeetingsandthejamboree,andhisdecadesofservicetoScouting. Specialpresentationswerealsomade,includingtheSilverWheeltoIFSRWebmasterSteveHenninginapprecia tionofhisyearsofservicetothefellowship.IARDanO’BrienpresentedjamboreetravelmugstoSuzanne&An gusMacFarlaneinappreciationfortheirleadershipandhardworkpreparingthejamboreebooth.Inturn,the MacFarlanespresentedFredBrenner,BrianThiessenandDanO’Briencustomizedwalkingsticksinthanksfortheir support. AbouttheBSAJamboreeandtheSummit Thejamboree,heldattheBoyScoutsofAmerica’s newesthighadventurebaseinBeckley,WestVir ginia,showcasedBoyScoutingandVenturingto 40,000Scouts,leadersandvolunteerstaff.The 11,000acrecamp,knownasTheSummit:Bechtel FamilyScoutReservedefinitelyraisesthebarfor modernextremeactivities,includingziplines,can opytours,whitewaterrafting,mountainboarding, askateparkandmuchmore. The Scouting Rotarian Page 3 Largelyawalkingcamp,staffandscouts alikegenerallywalkedfivemilesormore eachday,traversingupanddownthe mountainsofWestVirginia.Visitorswere shuttledinviaa20minutebusrideand wererequiredtoparticipateinaYouth Protectionorientation.Unfortunately, thatmadeaquick,dropinforlunchby localRotariansachallenge.Muchwas learnedaswewereintroducedtoanew paradigmandwebeginthinkingabout thenextBSAjamboreein2017,followed byTheSummithostingthe2019World ScoutJamboree. RotaryBoothat2013BSAJamboree Angus&SuzanneMcFarlane,lifetimeIFSRmembersfromAda,Oklahoma,weresowellpreparedinestablishing ourboothattheBechtelSummitReservefortheBSA2013NationalJamboreethattheymadeitlookeasyto handle!TheboothsawthousandsofScouts,ScoutersandVisitorsduringtheBSA2013NationalJamboree.There werethreegoalsofthebooth: IntroduceRotarianstothefellowshipiftheywerenotawareofit. The summer camp staff is looking forward to another great year at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation. Here is your copy of the Leader Guidebook. Please read it carefully. There are a few changes that will affect your unit during your stay at summer camp. Our goal is to provide your Scouts with the greatest summer camp experience possible. We hope that you will find the changes very beneficial to the Scouts and the Scouting program. They built Koi Windsocks from Japan, learned Chinese Kirigami, made Australian Aboriginal painngs, played the Jamaican Steel Drums, Peruvian Straw Flutes, and African Thumb Pianos! What a Jour- ney!! To earn their final stamp in their Passport to Adventure our Cub Scouts had to write Pen Pal leers to Internaonal Scouts.

    Hawk Mountain Council Mandatory Training Requirements (updated January 2019) Every youth deserves a trained leader. For years that has been a common credo among Scout leaders at all levels. We all commit significant portions of our time and talents to the Scouting program; all with the common goal of offering the best possible program to the youth who look to us for leadership. In 2015, the Council Executive Committee and Board, approved a required training policy, which will insure that all leaders in traditional scouting programs are trained in their leadership positions. For each position, leaders will need to have completed the appropriate training (listed below) in order to renew their membership in the Hawk Mountain Council. Membership Renewal Training Requirements: Youth Protection: All adult leaders must have current Youth Protection training to recharter. No exceptions. 2019: All Adult Leaders except Merit Badge Counselors must be position trained. This includes Council: Professional Staff, Board Members Commissioners and District Leaders: Commissioners, District Committee Members Direct Contact Leaders: Cubmasters, Assistant Cubmasters, Den Leaders, Assistant Den Leaders, Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Venture Crew Advisors, Assistant Venture Crew Advisors Unit Leaders: Unit Committee Chairs and Committee Members, Chartered OrganiZation Representatives, Scouter Reserves 2020: All Adult Leaders including Merit Badge Counselors must be position trained.
