WaynesharedthatwhenhebecameChiefScoutExecutive,hewentastepfurtherandtrackeddownhisown Scoutmasterfrom50yearsago,foundthathewasstillalive,andbroughtthemtoanationalmeetingashisguests topubliclythankthemforwhattheydidforhim. Awards WorldPresidentFredBrenner&InternationalCommissionerBrianThiessenthenpresentedtheChiefwiththe CliffDochtermanAward,recognizinghisyearsofserviceasaRotarian,hisgenerositytotheFellowshipbyallow ingourdisplaysatnationalmeetingsandthejamboree,andhisdecadesofservicetoScouting. AbouttheBSAJamboreeandtheSummit Thejamboree,heldattheBoyScoutsofAmerica’s newesthighadventurebaseinBeckley,WestVir ginia,showcasedBoyScoutingandVenturingto 40,000Scouts,leadersandvolunteerstaff.The 11,000acrecamp,knownasTheSummit:Bechtel FamilyScoutReservedefinitelyraisesthebarfor modernextremeactivities,includingziplines,can opytours,whitewaterrafting,mountainboarding, askateparkandmuchmore. The Scouting Rotarian Page 3 Largelyawalkingcamp,staffandscouts alikegenerallywalkedfivemilesormore eachday,traversingupanddownthe mountainsofWestVirginia.Visitorswere shuttledinviaa20minutebusrideand wererequiredtoparticipateinaYouth Protectionorientation.Unfortunately, thatmadeaquick,dropinforlunchby localRotariansachallenge.Muchwas learnedaswewereintroducedtoanew paradigmandwebeginthinkingabout thenextBSAjamboreein2017,followed byTheSummithostingthe2019World ScoutJamboree. RotaryBoothat2013BSAJamboree Angus&SuzanneMcFarlane,lifetimeIFSRmembersfromAda,Oklahoma,weresowellpreparedinestablishing ourboothattheBechtelSummitReservefortheBSA2013NationalJamboreethattheymadeitlookeasyto handle!TheboothsawthousandsofScouts,ScoutersandVisitorsduringtheBSA2013NationalJamboree.There werethreegoalsofthebooth: IntroduceRotarianstothefellowshipiftheywerenotawareofit.
