NEW ZEALAND SOUTH ISLAND PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPEDITION 0 3 - 1 5 N O V E M B E R 2 0 1 9 DAY 1 CHRISTCHURCH Arrive in Christchurch and take the afternoon to relax and overcome travel fatigue.. DAY 2 ARTHUR'S PASS Depart with your guides for Arthur's pass. Absorb the authentic high country experience before setting off to Castle Hill 'Kura Tawhiti'. This imposing array of limestone boulders, reminiscent of an old, run-down stone castle, provides photographic opportunities at every turn. Overnight in a cozy high country lodge after a first day of photography. DAYS 3 & 4 KAHURANGI Travel north to isolated Kahurangi National Park. Photograph lagoons, tannin-coloured rivers, limestone arches, and the spectacular hidden basin surrounded by the lush native rainforest Return to your accommodation well after sunset, where you will be welcomed back with a sumptuous traditional roast dinner. DAY 5 WEST COAST Travel south along New Zealand's remote and rugged West Coast. Set out for photography in the late light at the magical Pancake Rocks and Blowholes, where columns of water shoot skyward from rocks that resemble giant stacks of hotcakes. Dinner will be served in a cozy typical New Zealand tavern. DAY 5 & 6 GLACIER COUNTRY Photograph the sunrise over the Pancake Rocks before departing further South into Glacier Country. We will overnight in the town of Fox Glacier. This glacier descends from the Southern Alps down into temperate rainforest just 300 metres above sea level and offers amazing scenery. The afternoon will be spent photographing the area or taking a hike towards the Glacier. This beautiful photographic location includes the stunning reflective vistas of Lake Matherson. DAY 7 WANAKA Travers the mighty Southern Alps via the Haast pass and its many grand waterfalls and onwards to Wanaka. Spend time discovering all that this region has to offer, including iconic Lake Wanaka, New Zealand's fourth largest lake. You will also visit the beautiful shores of Glendhu Bay and Mt Aspiring National Park, a wonderful mixture of remote wilderness, high mountains and spectacular river valleys. DAYS 8 & 9 MT COOK Capture the famous 'lone tree' at Lake Wanaka, photograph the layered landscape of the Lindis Pass, before driving through the picturesque Tussock grasslands of the McKenzie country. The final part of the road rests along the edge of the opaque turquoise coloured Lake Pukaki. The Aoraki Mount Cook National Park includes the highest peak in Australasia: Mount Cook. A variety of walking trails begin in or near Mount Cook Village – most take only a couple of hours and lead to magical photographic locations. DAYS 10 & 11 WAKATIPU Depart from Mt Cook for the iconic Wakatipu region and the Queenstown- Glenorchy road, rated one of the most scenic drives in the world. This road follows the edge of Lake Wakatipu, providing breathtaking vistas of snow capped mountains and DAY 12 MILFORD SOUND lake views. Depart for Queenstown for onward travel or stay on for a few days to digest this incredible adventure.
