Sherpur, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, INDIA Navdanya Farm (Bija Vidyapeeth): +91 135 2693025; +91 135 2111015 Navdanya Office (Dehradun): +91 135 2743175; +91 135 2749931 (Telefax) Email - [email protected] DIRECTIONS: Bija Vidyapeeth Campus is located on Navdanya's Biodiversity Conservation farm, approximately 23 km from Dehradun city, which is around 250 km NE of Delhi in the Uttarakhand state. Outside Dehradun Railway Station, there is a Taxi stand about 100 yards on the left side. Taxi will charge Ũ 600 (daytime)/ Ũ700 (night). Dehadrun Railway Station to Navdanya Biodiversity Farm 19.1 km Page 1 of 7 From Dehradun Railway Station (Taxi Stand), head South through the village of Majra. Travel approximately 5.5 km until you reach the Old Shimla Road. The turnoff for the Old Shimla Road is not very well marked, but it is very close to Hilton School, and the distance given is very precise. Once you turn onto Old Shimla Road, continue for 16.5 km through a series of small villages (Mehuwala, Bhuddi, Ganeshpur, Nayagaon-Pelio, Bhoodpur). ISBT bus stand Dehradun to Navdanya Biodiversity Farm 17.9km Page 2 of 7 The village closest to the campus is Ramgarh, and once you reach the point 17.9 km along the road, you will see a sign for Navdanya "Bija Vidyapeeth". If you are coming by car/bus from Delhi, you need not to go to Dehradun City. After reaching ISBT, find the Shimla Road, about 500 yards towards Dehradun City (close to the Hilton School). Take a Left turn and follow the road as above. If coming from Haridwar or Rishikesh, while entering Dehradun take the Haridwar bypass road which goes up to ISBT, find the Shimla Road, about 500 yards towards city (close to the Hilton School). Take a Left turn and follow the road as above. Cheaper option to reach our farm: Come out of the Railway station to the Saharanpur road, about 150 yards to the Left side. Take auto #5 (towards Left, without crossing the road) to Old Shimla Road (Shimla bypass). Stop near Hilton School, cross the road, and take bus for village Ramgarh. Ask conductor to drop you at Navdanya Farm in village Ramgarh near Bundu Ki Chakki. You’ll find bus every 30 minutes from 6.00am to 6.00 pm every day. While coming from Paonta Sahib, or Vikasnagar, after reaching Herbertpur take the road to Dhamawala. Follow the road until you reach Ramgarh. On the way you will cross several small villages. Please locate the board of the ‘Bija Vidyapeeth’ on the Right side. Take Right turn and walk or drive through mango orchard to reach the campus.     WORLD HERITAGE SITE – KALKA SHIMLA RAILWAY AN INTRODUCTION Ambala Division is the proud custodian of “WORLD HERITAGE SITE-KALKA SHIMLA RAILWAY”. The heritage status to KSR was awarded on 7th July, 2008 by UNESCO. Shimla (then spelt Simla) was settled by the British shortly after the first Anglo- Gurkha war and is located at 7,116 feet(2,169m) in the foothills of the Himalaya. By the 1830s, Shimla had already developed as a major base for the British. It became the summer capital of British India in 1864, and also the Headquarters of the British army in India. The Kalka- Shimla Railway was built to connect Shimla, the summer capital of India during the British Raj, with the Indian rail system. “The Guinness Book of Rail facts & feats” records Kalka Shimla Railways as the greatest narrow gauge engineering in India. It is indeed true, construction of 103 tunnels (102 Existing) aggregating five miles and over 800 bridge in three years, that too in rough and hostile terrain was not an easy task. The Historic, approximate 111 years old KLK-SML Railway line which was opened for public traffic on 9th Nov.1903, became UNESCO Declared world Heritage Railway line, when it was conferred Heritage status on 10th July 2008 & listed under “Mountain Railways of India”. The idea of a Railway line to Shimla dates back to the introduction of Railways in India.     Ministry of Health and Family Welfare National Family Health Survey - 4 2015 -16 District Fact Sheet Shimla Himachal Pradesh International Institute for Population Sciences (Deemed University) Mumbai 1 Introduction The National Family Health Survey 2015-16 (NFHS-4), the fourth in the NFHS series, provides information on population, health and nutrition for India and each State / Union territory. NFHS-4, for the first time, provides district-level estimates for many important indicators. The contents of previous rounds of NFHS are generally retained and additional components are added from one round to another. In this round, information on malaria prevention, migration in the context of HIV, abortion, violence during pregnancy etc. have been added. The scope of clinical, anthropometric, and biochemical testing (CAB) or Biomarker component has been expanded to include measurement of blood pressure and blood glucose levels. NFHS-4 sample has been designed to provide district and higher level estimates of various indicators covered in the survey. However, estimates of indicators of sexual behaviour, husband’s background and woman’s work, HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitudes and behaviour, and, domestic violence will be available at State and national level only. As in the earlier rounds, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India designated International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai as the nodal agency to conduct NFHS-4. The main objective of each successive round of the NFHS has been to provide essential data on health and family welfare and emerging issues in this area. NFHS-4 data will be useful in setting benchmarks and examining the progress in health sector the country has made over time.
