English Waingels College

The programme for the day has been put together with a few concerns in mind that are of primary concern for English Departments at the moment:

1. The changes to assessment at Key Stage 2 and the subsequent ‘Life without levels’

2. New specifications, marking and assessment

3. New specifications, new skills we have to teach

Additionally, the ideas we cover in the day are broadly designed to help us target these new requirements at lower ability, disadvantaged or SEN students.

Actions for now:

- There is no need to let us know in advance which session you wish to attend in each time slot, there will be a chance to sign up for them on the day.

- Please meet on the Yellow Zone Forum Stairs (large stairs when you immediately enter the zone) and the plan for the day will be outlined from there.

- There may be a chance, following presentations from the exam board, for us to compare students’ work across schools. It would be worth bringing along a small selection of examples.

Cake!

A selection of prizes have been donated by Educational companies, which we will be raffling off at the end of the day. If you have some spare time over the half term break to bake some cakes, snacks or savories, then please do bring them along – you will be rewarded with more raffle tickets, and therefore more chances to win!

Many thanks for your support, we look forward to welcoming you here at Waingels.

Charlotte Bishop, Head of English, Waingels Academy biscbs@waingels..sch.uk
