The calendar has been finalised and the tracks booked and HRC are just waiting to finalise with the classes what events they wish to run at before we announce the full list of classes running at each event. Some events are already full with eleven classes which is really the limit we can run at a two day meeting. Some interesting projects coming up including a possible new motoring TV show (f we can get support) and a rerun of the B & H 500. HRC are endeavouring to run Classic meetings and Mixed Meetings as separate events with the classic meetings with older cars and hopefully cars with COD’s. Unfortunately for commercial reasons we have to have some non-classic classes at these meeting to make them viable. The classic meetings are the Icebreaker 28/29th September Hampton Downs, Tasman Revival Hampton Downs 25/26th January, Tasman Revival Pukekohe 22/23rd February, Paul Fahey NZ Legends of Speed 21/22nd March Hampton Downs, Jack Nazer Classic Taupo 25/26th April. At these we will run BMW classes and ERC and while COD’s for these classes are not mandatory the cars competing in most cases could get COD’s. Race meeting organisers do need classes to combine as entry fees cannot keep rising.

Formed in 1963 by New Zealander Bruce McLaren, McLaren Motor Racing has become a household name thanks to the continued presence and success in Formula 1. Bruce had begun his Formula 1 career as a driver, competing for Cooper alongside Jack Brabham. McLaren took the first of three Grand Prix wins for Cooper in 1959, as the youngest victor to that point at just 22, and finished second in the 1960 World Championship.

    2016 MEDIA GUIDE Toyota Racing Series: TOP INTERNATIONALS CHALLENGE LEADING KIWI DRIVERS New Zealand’s premier single-seater championship has once more attracted a top field of international drivers to this country to do battle with New Zealand drivers for the most prestigious trophies in New Zealand motor racing. The championship, now in its 12th season, and in the second season for the new FT50 race car, the series was established to help young New Zealanders to advance their racing careers by giving them experience in modern composite-based ‘wings and slicks’ race cars. It has launched Kiwis into international racing careers. New Zealand graduates of the series include 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion Brendon Hartley, Le Mans 24-Hour race winner Earl Bamber, GP2 racers Mitch Evans and Richie Stanaway, Japanese Formula Three champion Nick Cassidy, Chinese Formula Masters champion James Munro, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Chris van der Drift and V8 Supercars driver Shane van Gisbergen. This year three Kiwis are racing – James Munro (Christchurch), 2015 national Formula Ford champion Taylor Cockerton (Pukekohe) and 2015 Spirit of a Nation TRS feature race winner Brendon Leitch. Munro is having his third shot at winning the TRS championship as is Leitch, while it is Cockerton’s first year in the top category. The international talent they will race against is considerable. Brazilian 17-year-old Pedro Piquet, son of three-time world Formula One champion Nelson (1981, 1983, 1987), is returning to the TRS after contesting the opening rounds in 2014. In the intervening period he has won the Brazilian Formula Three Championship for the last two years and will be using the TRS series as a springboard into the FIA European Formula Three Championship where he will team up with British driver and 2015 TRS graduate Callum Ilott at Van Amersfoort racing.

This made a change from Taupo Car Club assisting HRC at Taupo HRC meetings. Thanks to all The Motorsport Club personnel who assisted at the event. It was most appreciated by the Taupo Car Club. On Sunday, in association with Barfoot and Thompson, HRC ran a charity event at Hampton Downs and raised over $16,000 for Starship Foundation and Blind Foundation Guide Dogs. Rides were auctioned on Trade Me for rides on Side car motorbikes. Paul Radisich gave rides in the super lap March owned by Glenn Hodges and Stephen Armstrong made the Alan Moffat replica RX7 available for rides. Not only was it great to raise money these worthy causes it exposed new people to our sport. In the afternoon we ran our one of our successful Introduction to Motorsport events. The format for the day is a drivers briefing, then a walk round the track (this had to be skipped this because of a heavy shower) Then a slow drive round the track (follow the leader) for 6 laps to learn the correct lines.

Dear Media Representatives, The BMW Motorsport Junior programme enters its second lap in 2015. In Victor Bouveng, Nick Cassidy, Louis Delétraz and Trent Hindman we are once again supporting four talented young drivers this year, as we offer them the optimal preparation for a successful career in GT racing. Each of these four drivers has already gained initial experience in motorsport, and a number have already achieved notable success. However, all four Juniors are hungry for more. They want to become even stronger, to improve both on and off the track, and to find out more about working at the very highest level of motor racing. We are giving them the opportunity to do just that in 2015. Our new BMW Motorsport Junior programme proved to be very successful in its debut season in 2014. In Jesse Krohn, we helped to develop an outstanding young driver, who we are now continuing to support on the GT racing scene, and for whom we have high hopes. I would now like to welcome the second year of our junior programme for young GT and touring car drivers to the BMW family. Our Juniors came through against a lot of opposition during the selection process. This shows that they are very talented and we can expect great things from them. I am very much looking forward to seeing the four drivers in action during their year of training. The promotion of young drivers is steeped in tradition at BMW Motorsport.
