This will feature as many of Paul’s cars that are available plus many NZ Motor Racing Legends. We will have a hospitality suite available both weekend days so drivers can mix with the NZ legends. Classes racing are BMW 2 Litre, BMW E30 ,BMW Open, HMC/HSC, F5000, Formula Libre/FONZ/NZ Sports cars, Classic Trial, 2KCup, Historic Sports Sedans, Pre65/Mini, Tranzam, Trofeo, ERC and Classic Touring Cars. Three of this seasons HRC meetings are honouring Motorsport heroes. Jack Nazer Classic at Taupo on 10th 11th April, Jamie Aislabie Meeting at Taupo on 1st 2nd May and of course the Paul Fahey Legends of Speed Meeting on 19th – 21st March at Hampton Downs. We would be keen to hear from owners of cars that these legends raced and also their fellow competitors. All HRC events for this season are available to enter on www.motorsportentry.com The 2KCup fields are oversubscribed but at all rounds apart from the Legends of Speed there is an IPC round at the same meeting. 2K Cup cars are competitive in the IPC 3 class so competitors should enter the IPC class. As spots become available in the 2KCup class James can shift your entry on the day from IPC to 2KCup. This means you are assured of a start either in IPC or 2KCup . HRC had a very successful meeting at Taupo on the 9th 10th January. Spectators were also up at Taupo on what we had in previous years at Taupo. Interesting checking the log books. Some of the cars had not raced since 2015. Now that overseas trips are not possible perhaps funds are being diverted back to race cars ! As was mentioned at drivers briefing HRC had combined some of the classes. This enables HRC to run more classes at our race meetings and that in turn means entry fees can be held at the present level even though costs seem to be always increasing. At a two day race meeting we can only run 10 to 11 classes and need an average class entry of about 25 cars to break even. It is no secret that classes that consistently run fields of about 35 to 40 cars do get a discount. Another pleasing trend is drivers returning to the sport, HRC have seen a rising number of drivers reapplying for a race licence that has expired for over two years. They have to re-sit the test which can be done at the HRC office Monday to Friday. Just ring and make an appointment. Great to see HRC life member Kenny Smith competing in his 50th NZ Grand Prix. A record that is unlikely to be eclipsed. In the weekend Kenny drove very bravely in spite of still recovering from shoulder surgery. An inspiration to us all. Planning for the Muriwai centenary celebrations is well under way for Friday 5th March. See article below for details. Ellerslie Concours 11 February. At present HRC only have one car for display, Robert Hulme Tiga Sports 2000 . Would be great to have a few more, any car that races at our meetings would be very welcome. Contact [email protected] 0274827542 The 2021 Grand Prix at Hampton Downs was a great event, Shane Van Gisbergen driving was superb - his overtaking moves were incredible. Great crowd and some good supporting classes. The track allowed plenty of passing moves and justified the 10 years Chris and Tony spent planning and building was time well spent. Tony Quinn has done a great job taking it to another level and also promoting such a good event. Bringing in the cream of New Zealand talent certainly attracted the New Zealand spectators. Interesting the New Zealand stars raced without banging into each other. Perhaps next year we could 10 internationals and 10 New Zealand drivers. Perhaps the winner of Formula Open gets an automatic entry. New transponders are now in stock with lifetime licences. Register them once and just charge them up for each race meeting, no more problems with annual licensing and the transponders will have a reasonable second-hand value. The race was extended to 50 miles the following year (1922) and three turns were introduced for the benefit of the spectators. In 1923 the race length was 50 miles again but five turns were used. The cup was won outright in 1928 (after 3 consecutive wins) by R B Wilson, ESQ who in 1953 donated it to New Zealand International Grand Prix Inc, on condition that it be competed for annually in the Auckland Grand Prix race under its original title. The cup was won in its 100th year by Shane Van Gisbergen at the 2021 New Zealand Grand Prix held at Hampton Downs. Wally aboard the Denny Hulme McLaren M23 Work is well in hand for next season. The calendar has been finalised and the tracks booked and HRC are just waiting to finalise with the classes what events they wish to run at before we announce the full list of classes running at each event. Some events are already full with eleven classes which is really the limit we can run at a two day meeting. Some interesting projects coming up including a possible new motoring TV show (f we can get support) and a rerun of the B & H 500. HRC are endeavouring to run Classic meetings and Mixed Meetings as separate events with the classic meetings with older cars and hopefully cars with COD’s. Unfortunately for commercial reasons we have to have some non-classic classes at these meeting to make them viable. The classic meetings are the Icebreaker 28/29th September Hampton Downs, Tasman Revival Hampton Downs 25/26th January, Tasman Revival Pukekohe 22/23rd February, Paul Fahey NZ Legends of Speed 21/22nd March Hampton Downs, Jack Nazer Classic Taupo 25/26th April. At these we will run BMW classes and ERC and while COD’s for these classes are not mandatory the cars competing in most cases could get COD’s. Race meeting organisers do need classes to combine as entry fees cannot keep rising.

  • 70Th Victory for Team ABT Sportsline in the DTM
ABT Sportsline 2021 – Press Release Week 33 70th victory for Team ABT Sportsline in the DTM Kelvin van der Linde has given Team ABT Sportsline its 70th victory in the DTM. Following his victories at Monza and Zolder, the championship leader also won Saturday’s race at the Nürburgring. After the first half of the season, the South African, who lives near Kempten, has a 33-point lead in the drivers’ championship. In the teams’ championship, ABT Sportsline is also at the top of the table after the first half of the 2021 DTM season. Saturday was a picture-perfect day for ABT Sportsline: Kelvin van der Linde secured pole position for the third time this season with a perfect qualifying lap and then celebrated a commanding victory. On the way, he only had to shake twice when late stoppers Timo Glock and Alex Albon put up a massive fight against the ABT driver. The South African stayed cool, grabbed the two opponents and, after crossing the finish line, ordered an ice cream from SAT.1 commentator Eddy Mielke, which was promptly served to him by colleague Andrea Kaiser at the podium ceremony. Walter Kolb accepted the trophy for the winning team. The 73-year-old pensioner from Isny had auctioned a seat at the pit stand of ABT Sportsline for the race at the Nürburgring by donating 6,000 Euros for the victims of the flood disaster in the region. The DTM was the first race event after the flood at the Nürburgring. Before the start of the race, children affected by the flood had visited the ABT Sportsline pit and were even allowed to hold the steering wheel of the eventual winning car in their hands before the race.

ACES WILD ACES WILD The Story of the British Grand Prix THE STORY OF THE Peter Miller Motor racing is one of the most 10. 3. BRITISH GRAND PRIX exacting and dangerous sports in the world today. And Grand Prix racing for Formula 1 single-seater cars is the RIX GREATS toughest of them all. The ultimate ambition of every racing driver since 1950, when the com petition was first introduced, has been to be crowned as 'World Cham pion'. In this, his fourth book, author Peter Miller looks into the back ground of just one of the annual qualifying rounds-the British Grand Prix-which go to make up the elusive title. Although by no means the oldest motor race on the English sporting calendar, the British Grand Prix has become recognised as an epic and invariably dramatic event, since its inception at Silverstone, Northants, on October 2nd, 1948. Since gaining World Championship status in May, 1950 — it was in fact the very first event in the Drivers' Championships of the W orld-this race has captured the interest not only of racing enthusiasts, LOONS but also of the man in the street. It has been said that the supreme test of the courage, skill and virtuosity of a Grand Prix driver is to w in the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and the German Grand Prix at the notorious Nürburgring. Both of these gruelling circuits cer tainly stretch a driver's reflexes to the limit and the winner of these classic events is assured of his rightful place in racing history.

! The Ex-Alan Stacey, Works 1959 Lotus 15 Chassis No. 621-3 Engine No. 1097 • Driven with notable success for Team Lotus by Alan Stacey during the 1959 season. • According to a leading historian to have potentially been taken to Le Mans in 1959 as a spare car or even a second entry. • Sold to New Zealand in 1959 where it continued a well documented and successful racing career on into the 1970’s. • Driven to an impressive 7th in the 1960 New Zealand Grand Prix by Jim Palmer, in the company of Moss, Mclaren and Brabham, all in 2.5-litre Cooper Grand Prix cars. • Re-imported into the UK by respected historic racer and collector Spencer Flack. • Raced with great success by its current owner since 2008, with numerous wins, overall class victory in the Stirling Moss Trophy 2009, 2010 and 2011, 2nd in the Madgwick Cup and a 5th in the Sussex Trophy at the Goodwood Revival and an impressive 2nd overall in the hard fought Plateaux 3 at Peter Auto’s Le Mans Classic. • Meticulously prepared by one of the most respected names in historic racing with no expense spared, having seen little or no miles since its last refresh. • This is an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire such an original and well regarded Ex-Works Lotus and an absolute proven front running ‘50s Sports Car. To many, the 1950s saw sportscar racing at its most pure, establishing and creating some of the most influential car manufacturers for the decades to follow. By the mid to late 1950’s the tides of sports car design were starting to turn and pave the way for things to come.

  • 2016 Media Guide
2016 MEDIA GUIDE Toyota Racing Series: TOP INTERNATIONALS CHALLENGE LEADING KIWI DRIVERS New Zealand’s premier single-seater championship has once more attracted a top field of international drivers to this country to do battle with New Zealand drivers for the most prestigious trophies in New Zealand motor racing. The championship, now in its 12th season, and in the second season for the new FT50 race car, the series was established to help young New Zealanders to advance their racing careers by giving them experience in modern composite-based ‘wings and slicks’ race cars. It has launched Kiwis into international racing careers. New Zealand graduates of the series include 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion Brendon Hartley, Le Mans 24-Hour race winner Earl Bamber, GP2 racers Mitch Evans and Richie Stanaway, Japanese Formula Three champion Nick Cassidy, Chinese Formula Masters champion James Munro, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Chris van der Drift and V8 Supercars driver Shane van Gisbergen. This year three Kiwis are racing – James Munro (Christchurch), 2015 national Formula Ford champion Taylor Cockerton (Pukekohe) and 2015 Spirit of a Nation TRS feature race winner Brendon Leitch. Munro is having his third shot at winning the TRS championship as is Leitch, while it is Cockerton’s first year in the top category. The international talent they will race against is considerable. Brazilian 17-year-old Pedro Piquet, son of three-time world Formula One champion Nelson (1981, 1983, 1987), is returning to the TRS after contesting the opening rounds in 2014. In the intervening period he has won the Brazilian Formula Three Championship for the last two years and will be using the TRS series as a springboard into the FIA European Formula Three Championship where he will team up with British driver and 2015 TRS graduate Callum Ilott at Van Amersfoort racing.
