This is what she says about Commissioner Service: It’s an exciting time in the Commissioner staff - we send a big thank you to Mike Mayrosh for his service as he steps down, and we are starting to build the staff to better handle the challenges of growing the district! Commissioner service supports the units and helps them grow. We share information with the units, and provide a link between the unit and the district, so district leadership can better hear and see the needs of the units. We need YOUR help - I know you already do one or more jobs, but I’d like to have experienced Scouters who are able to listen and guide units other than their own to success. If you can help just one other unit, you will have made a big impact on all the Scouts in the unit, and helped the District. Please consider this special opportunity to share what you know with others. Contact me, your unit commissioner, Bernie Suess or Arby Beisel for more information! I am also happy to remind ALL commissioners and commissioners to be that there is training coming up fast - please plan to attend as a refresher, or new training! *April 2 - Commissioner College in Montour - leave 6:30 am, spend the whole day earning your bachelor or masters of Commissioner Science - Fax the attached registration form to 570-387-4074 *April 9 - Area 5 Journey to Excellence - May the Force be with Us! Bucks County Community College The registration site is up and running at http://tinyurl.com/Harness-the-force *May 21 - Unit Commissioner training - Trexler Nature Lodge - 9 am to 1 pm Finally, the Commissioner Staff meets monthly at the Council building at 7 pm on the third Wednesday of the month - so the next meeting is coming up quickly on April 20 - I’d like all current commissioners to attend this planning and development meeting if at all possible - hope you can make it! More details coming with the meeting agenda next month. Thank you for your service! • Where to Go Camping
There was a statement in an older version of the Boy Scout Handbook that said: “Have you ever dreamed of hiking the wilderness trails that were worn down under moccasins hundreds of years ago? Do you hear in your imagination the almost soundless dip, dip of Indian canoe paddles or the ring of the axe of an early pioneer hewing a home out of the American wilderness? Have you followed with you mind’s eye the covered wagon on the trek across our continent? Yes, it’s fun to be a Boy Scout! It’s fun to go hiking and camping with your best friends…..to swim, to dive, to paddle a canoe, to wield the axe…..to follow in the footsteps of the pioneers who led the way through the wilderness…..to stare into the glowing embers of the campfire and dream of the wonders of the lift that is in store for you…” This is the heart of Scouting, but we don’t always know the best place to go on these outings. How better can the Order of the Arrow fulfill a part of their responsibility of service to others than to make this camping guide available? A great guide to the best camping, boating, hiking and sightseeing both in and out of the Council, but, of course, one of the best places to do real camping is at one of the Council’s reservations. Richard A. Henson or Rodney Scout Reservation, both long term camping during the summer months, or weekends through the year, affords a maximum of program.
