Her incredible intellect, voracious curiosity, outstanding ability for drawing together disparate strands, and unceasing drive to learn more and know more have been an inspiring example over the past four years. This thesis owes much of its existence to her and her comments, recommendations, edits, and support. Thank you also to Ellen Wurtzel for guiding me through my first large-scale research paper in my third year at Oberlin, and for encouraging me to pursue honors. Shelley Lee has been an invaluable resource and advisor in the daunting process of putting together a fifty-some page research paper, while my fellow History honors candidates have been supportive, helpful in their advice, and great to commiserate with. Thank you to Steven Plank and everyone else who has listened to me discuss Britten and the Aldeburgh Festival and kindly offered suggestions.

  • Benefice Profile 2019
The Benefice of Walton and Trimley Benefice Profile 2019 Welcome and Introduction Welcome to the Benefice of Walton and Trimley and our profile. The Benefice is situated near the end of a peninsula bordered by the river Deben to the north, the river Orwell to the south and the North Sea to the east. Walton originally spanned a large area adjacent to a small fishing hamlet known as Felixstowe, with the Trimleys being slightly further inland. Today Walton and Trimley are considered to be on the outskirts of the town of Felixstowe. The Benefice was formed in 2014 from the parishes of St Mary’s Walton and St Martin’s and St Mary’s Trimley. Each church is happy and active but with its own identity. Both churches are central parts of the community around them and have church families with a heart and a desire for bringing Jesus to the people of their parish and sharing His love for them. The two parishes work closely together, they have equal and separate PCCs but do come together as a Benefice PCC three times a year. Each PCC contributes towards the Parish Share so that as a Benefice this is paid in full. The Benefice churches belong to and support Churches Together in Felixstowe which links the Christian witness in the town and provides joint ventures in which many members of the church families participate. These includes events during Unity Week, a procession of witness from St Mary’s church to the town centre on Good Friday where a united service is held and a ‘Son Rise’ service on Easter Sunday morning at the beach.

My interest in aircraft at Old Buckenham started several years ago and recently David Moth and I have been involved in creating a web-based photographic record of visiting !aircraft, “OLDBUCKSHOTS”. With December 2013 being the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the 453rd Bomb Group, I thought it appropriate to try to put together a record of all the B24 Liberators that were based at Old Buckenham during World War II. I was particularly interested in recording the individual aircraft identities including the names the crews gave their aircraft. (Details of !missions flown and aircrews are already well covered in existing publications.) My initial research was based on what I was able to glean from existing published material, and, as far as I am aware, the information I have put together in this booklet is !not available in this format anywhere else. The project became even more interesting when I had the pleasure of meeting Pat Ramm who, as a schoolboy during the war, was a frequent visitor to Old Buckenham airfield. He very kindly allowed me to copy his large collection of photographs and also shared his clear memories of the period with me. This spurred me on to undertake more thorough !research, the results of which I am now able to share with you. I am also indebted to the generous help from the members of the 453rd Memorial Association in particular to Tom Brittan for sharing his personal records and also to Tim !Ramsey, without whom this booklet would not have been possible.

  • Our Governors
Worlingham CEVC Primary School OUR GOVERNORS Brenda Thompson Foundation Governor and Chair of the Governing Body When I left school I began work at what was then called the MAFF Fisheries Research Laboratory, (now a Government Agency called CEFAS). I spent my whole career there working on various scientific research projects and spending a lot of time at sea on Research Vessels. After taking early retirement I was asked if I would consider becoming a school Governor, after much thought and after I had found out what a Governor was exactly, I agreed. As I attend Worlingham church and act as sidesman on a regular basis I was appointed as a Foundation Governor. I monitor Science, Literacy and Assessment, and I currently monitor the progress of Year 4 children who I have followed since they were in the Early Years Foundation Stage. I sit on the Finance, Curriculum and Ethos, Health and Safety and Personnel Committees and Chair meetings of the Full Governing Body. I thoroughly enjoy the time I spend in school liaising with staff, pupils and other Governors all of which furthers my own education!! Mr Peter Hobbs Foundation Governor “I have lived in Worlingham for 30 years and I am a member of the Parish Church. I am keen to assist links between the school, church and community and to contribute to an ethos within the school that embraces the Christian faith and enables the spiritual development of the children. In my professional work as a pharmacist I have managed team and budgets which I will apply to school governance in the field of performance management and financial control.
