They explained that the pro- posed names include a group of experts in the university and aca- demic fields. The establishment of the new university would serve as a radi- cal solution to the increase in the Dr Al-Faris number of high school graduates, even if the new uni- versity did not have time to contribute to solving the current admission crisis. Among the proposed solutions to the current admis- sion crisis is one for the establishment of at least two public universities besides Kuwait University. The sources indicated a tendency in these solutions to adopt a central admission policy, such as establish- ing a central admission system or a system for all high- er education institutions, so that high school graduates can submit their applications to join it. The students will be distributed according to three criteria - university education policy, harmo- nization of its outputs with the labor market, and available seats, in addition to the skills, abilities and levels of students. They concluded by referring to another solution, which is to expedite the adoption of national tests for university admission, indicating that it is a project in- cluded in the development plan and for which a budget has already been allocated. ‘The key to our progress is vaccination’ No shot, no proof, no service: NYC businesses begin checks By Bobby Caina Calvan eople dining indoors at New York City’s restaurants, Pbrowsing its museums or sweating in its gyms had to show proof that they were at least partially inoculated against COVID-19 as the city began the nation’s largest effort yet to exclude the unvaccinated from public places. Signs on the front door and windows of The Stop Inn, a Queens diner, warned patrons arriving for breakfast that they had to show proof of at least one vaccine shot to be allowed to dine inside. Still, Norbu Lama, 17, said he was surprised when a server politely asked for his vaccination card soon after he slid into a booth with his parents and sister. “We didn’t know we had to bring it,” he said. The server appeared relieved when Lama and his family presented cop- ies of their vaccination cards on their phone, Lama said. The vaccination mandate, announced two weeks ago by Mayor Bill de Blasio, aims to persuade more people to get vaccinated or else miss out on city amenities like restaurants and bars, movie theaters, bowling alleys, con- cert halls, indoor sports arenas, and other entertainment venues. Employees of those businesses also must be vaccinated, with holdouts facing the possibility of being fi red if they re- fuse. The measures are also fraught with complications, as restaurant servers, bartenders and ticket agents become the frontline enforcers for vaccination rules. Skittish about losing business, but mindful that another economic shutdown could be disastrous, some restaurant and bar owners are embracing the mandates as a way to control the virus and keep their doors open. Others - particularly in parts of the city where people have resisted getting the vaccine - worry it will be a fatal blow to businesses that were prevented for months last year from serving patrons indoors. “We do not want to go back to restrictions,” de Blasio said at a virtual news conference Tuesday. “The key to our pro- gress is vaccination.” The city makes exceptions for children under 12, who now don’t qualify for the vaccine. It is also exempting certain workers, like players on visiting professional sports teams. Since early August, more than 300,000 additional people have gotten at least one shot of a vaccine, according to city data. At least 5.2 million of the city’s 8.8 million residents have gotten at least one shot, with nearly 5 million fully vac- cinated. The number of people getting shots has ticked upward again in the city as the more contagious delta variant that has Katz’s Deli customers from Essex County, N.J. fi nd their proof of vaccinations, in order to be able to eat inside the restaurant, Aug. 17, in New York. Critical component Horseshoe crabs blood ensures shots are safe

CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug 22, (AP): It’s one of the stran- ger, lesser-known aspects of US health care — the striking, milky-blue blood of horseshoe crabs is a critical component of tests to ensure injectable medications such as coronavirus vaccines aren’t contaminated. To obtain it, harvesters bring many thousands of the crea- tures to laboratories to be bled each year, and then return them to the sea — a practice that has drawn criticism from conservationists because some don’t survive the process. The blood, which is blue due to its copper content, is coveted for proteins used to create the LAL test, a process used to screen medical products for bacteria. Synthetic al- ternatives aren’t widely accepted by the health care industry and haven’t been approved federally, leaving the crabs as the only domestic source of this key ingredient. Many of these crabs are harvested along the coast of South Carolina, where Gov Henry McMaster pro- moted the niche industry as key to the development of a domestic medical supply chain, while also noting that environmental concerns should be ex- plored. “We don’t want to have to depend on foreign countries for a lot of rea- McMaster sons, including national security, so it’s good to see this company thriving in the United States,” McMaster told The Associated Press. They ultimately developed the LAL test, and the technique has been used since the 1970s to keep medical materials and supplies free of bacteria. Simpson’s concept record Sam charts own path among famed family

By Ron Harris lasshouse Children,’ Sam Williams (Mercury ‘GNashville) Sam Williams, the grandson of country music legend Hank Williams and the son of recording artist Hank Williams Jr., wastes no time on his debut album “Glasshouse Children” convincing the listener of one thing: He sounds nothing like his kin and he’s not try- ing to. This is a good thing for Williams, as the handful of slow-paced refl ective songs fi t his own voice and vision nicely. “Glasshouse Children” explores themes of happi- ness, despair and love, all well- worn territory for the genre but you’d be hard-pressed to pin more than two of these tracks as country music. The strong songwriting on “Happy All The Time,” featur- ing Dolly Parton (yes, when you’re the son of Bocephus you can make that happen) is what allows Williams to invent himself. There’s a strain of Williams sorrow as the duo softly sings about the ever elusive goal of happiness. Despite the push for the title track to make the mark for Williams, the more standard country approach on “10-4” reveals that song as a gem. Williams shows more vocal range here, singing stronger with the Barry Manilow performs at We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert at The Great Lawn in Central Park on Saturday, Aug. 21, in New York. (AP) quicker pace on this slick love song. Will Williams enjoy the recording longevity of his father and grandfather? It’s hard to say. But it’s admi- rable that he’s charted his own course without leaning on their styles so heavily that it blurs the senses. LONDON, Aug 22, (AP): Social distancing in the Ar- senal defense was too invit- ing for Romelu Lukaku. Only 15 minutes into his second debut for Chelsea, Lukaku was gifted the space to run and sweep in the goal he’d waited almost a decade to score. It was an opener – in a 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday – that exemplified the hold-up play, timing on the ball and final touches that the striker has fi- nessed in his time away from Chelsea. Even worse for Arsenal, the second consecutive loss at the start of the Pre- mier League season came with pan- demic capacity restrictions lifted at the Emirates Stadium for the first time in almost 18 months. There was a lot for home fans to jeer their own side for – and boo they did – and so much to admire from the visi- tors from west London who so unex- pectedly won the Champions League last season. Even more terrifying for Chelsea’s opponents is having Lukaku to supple- ment an attack previously lacking a fo- cal point with a scoring touch. That was seen quickly in north Lon- don. Lukaku held off center back Pablo Mari before laying the ball off to Ma- teo Kovacic. As the ball was sprayed out to James on the right flank, Lukaku powered his way into to the penalty area - brushing aside Mari with ease - to find the pocket of space to receive the pass centrally and tap in past goal- keeper Bernd Leno.
