A photographer and close friend of the Napier's is looking for a traditional home with a touch of modern style. After deciding on a classic mansion in need of a complete makeover, Ben and Erin transform the tired house into a show-stopping home. Color Psychology. A couple who runs a non-profit is investing in a property that provides transitional housing for women recovering from difficulties. Ben and Erin get scrappy and turn a neglected building into an uplifting oasis where new beginnings can flourish. Woodland Wonderland. A couple trading in Oregon's cold weather for Laurel's humid climate is looking for a house with nature-inspired whimsy and historic Southern charm. Ben and Erin rise to the challenge of creating a storybook-style home that's truly one of a kind. A Musician's Retreat. A recording producer is back in Laurel looking for an artist's retreat. He received a dilapidated cabin from his late father, and while Ben and Erin are up for the risky restoration challenge, they think he'll get a better return with a bungalow in town. From the Big Apple to the Little Catfish. A surgeon and his wife are moving to Laurel from New York City, and their all-in budget goes a long way in the Mississippi town. Ben and Erin pay homage to the historic property's original elements and peculiar charm to design an amazing family home. A Laurel Hug. A woman is moving back to Laurel to be close to family after the sudden passing of her husband. Ben and Erin thoughtfully bring their design to life and create a gorgeous, sun-filled home as a soft landing to help get her through this difficult time. All in the Family. Erin's uncle, Danny, likes to go big when it comes to restoring old houses, and he's not concerned about the budget. Together with his son, Jim, Ben and Erin try to convince him that bigger isn't always better in a historical home renovation. Clean Lines, Open Spaces. After living in temporary situations after a tornado destroyed his house, a man is ready to find a home with clean lines and open spaces. Ben and Erin give his new place a complete facelift, creating an awesome midcentury modern home with a cozy study. Retreat Yourself. Angie took a huge leap of faith when she quit her New York job to work as a producer on Home Town. After falling in love with Laurel, Mississippi, she's ready to make it her permanent address, and Ben and Erin help their boss find her dream home. Country House, City House. A Georgia couple loves the outdoors as much as they love Laurel, and they're in need of a home with a big kitchen and lots of yard space for entertaining. Ben and Erin are determined to bring this couple's outdoorsy ways into the design of their home. Closer to Mom. A New Orleans couple is looking for a vacation home in Laurel to be closer to her mom, and their ideal house needs space for hosting crawfish boils. Ben and Erin transform a dated home into a modern oasis complete with two kitchens and a spectacular pool. Family Values. Ben's baby brother Jesse and his wife Lauren are buying their first house, and the Napiers are there to guide them every step of the way. Using their love of eclectic style and bold colors, Ben and Erin create a fun-filled home ready for new memories. Design for Living. An interior designer wants to buy a starter home in Laurel, and Ben and Erin are up for the challenge. Whether she picks the quaint cottage or the former rental, Erin is excited to flex her design muscles with a boho/mid-modern style her colleague loves. Thanks for the Memories. With their daughters leaving the nest, a couple must decide between renovating their high-maintenance home or moving into a clean slate. Ben and Erin aim to mark everything off their wish list and save Laurel's first family of hospitality's reputation. Grand Style. A woman moving back to Laurel after being away for years wants a place big enough to accommodate her parents, kids and grandkids if they visit all at once. Erin can't wait to deliver on her ideal design plan: blue and white in the French provincial style. Hertz-house music free download. Design of all kinds. Heavy on the letters. Tuesday, 21 February 2012. Panopticon. 'The Panopticon is a type of institutional building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in the late eighteenth century. The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) inmates of an institution without them being able to tell whether or not they are being watched.' Obviously i'm not mad keen on the idea of prison as a whole but this particular type just seems cruel and unusual. From an architectural and conceptual view it's pretty interesting. But from a human point of view it's brutally efficient, paranoia-inducing and horribly Orwellian. Thankfully it seems the idea hasn't really caught on and with the advent of CCTV it's easier to keep tabs on inmates in less creepy ways. Wikipedia has a list of prisons which are said to be 'influenced' by Bentham's original concept but the closest to it in actuality is the Presidio Modelo in Cuba which is now abandoned. Hertz-house music free download. Design of all kinds. Heavy on the letters. Wednesday, 8 February 2012. The Designers Republic. “People used to say ‘you’re at Designer’s Republic because you break the rules’ and we’d say ‘we’re not really, we just don’t know the rules… Every time someone rang up about work we’d put the phone down, piss ourselves laughing and say ‘one day someone’s going to suss out that we don’t know what we’re doing’,” admits Anderson happily. “We used to take on students for work placement so that we could learn from them. I got my first lesson in typography from someone at a typesetters who was sick of trying to work out my instructions.” They still have one of the coolest websites on the internet which is either unfinished or dead or both or neither. I can't figure it out. I'm pretty sure they're not done yet though. Check it out at - Competitions View current and past official House-Mixes.com DJ competitions. • New Album Reviews
For Those Of You Who Have Never: New Album Reviews Music | Bittles’ Magazine: The music column from the end of the world I have always been a fan of the humble compilation. Although much maligned in recent years, they can be a great way to introduce yourself to new artists, or genres. This June has seen a surge of quality collections all begging to be reviewed. Some are designed to showcase a particular label (Floor To Floor for Dusky’s 17 Steps, Facticity for Functions‘ Infrastructure New York, The Lost Tapes for Code Is Law), the selection skills of a certain DJ (Tim Green’s Body Language mix, Ryan Elliott’s Fabric 88), or a specific era’s sound (C87’s 80s indie). If you aren’t a fan of compilations, please don’t despair, as we also find time to review great new artist albums by Rebolledo, Huerco S, Weval, Mala, Trevino, Wolf Müller & Cass, and more. So, put on your reading glasses, open up your ears and let us begin… This week we’ll start with the return of Rebolledo, whose second solo album, Mondo Alterado should be available in your local record store now. Continuing the soundtrack-inspired electronica of last year’s Momento Drive mix CD, Mondo Alterado is a stately, atmospheric downtempo delight. Described in the press notes as being “A kind of soundtrack for a movie that doesn’t exist”, the album conjures a wealth of emotions and imagery, making it Rebolledo’s most rewarding work yet. Opener, Here Comes The Warrior (Super Short Album Version) is a dense and absorbing fifteen minute ride into the heart of ambient grooves.

Journal – Leisure Studies Accepted 05 Jun 2017, Published online: 26 Jun 2017 http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/02614367.2017.1339731 Dr Dewi Jaimangal-Jones, WCTR – Event Studies Research Group, Cardiff Metropolitan University Analysing the media discourses surrounding DJs as authentic performers and artists within electronic dance music culture magazines Abstract This paper critically analyses how the media construct, consolidate and perpetuate discourses surrounding DJs as artists. It explores representations of their status and roles in a selection of dance music magazines (Mixmag and DJ Mag) and the links to wider ideologies concerning music and dance culture such as authenticity, originality, innovation, cultural progression and performance. It considers how the media bestow DJs with artistic credibility and authenticity in addition to the range and type of references used to position DJs within the cultural landscape and hierarchy of electronic dance music culture (EDMC). Furthermore, it discusses their sensationalist construction as powerful performers and the links between DJ performances and wider discourses surrounding event experiences. This paper concludes that not only do the discourses perpetuated serve to elevate and sustain the cultural status of DJs, they also validate and perpetuate a wider range of ideological notions within dance music culture. It also highlights the power relations between authors, audiences, DJs and promoters and the medias role in sustaining the social capital of different players, through projecting a vibrant and dynamic culture. Key words: DJs; EDMC; dance music culture; authenticity; media discourse; subcultural ideologies. Introduction Electronic dance music culture (EDMC) describes the musical genres and events which evolved from the warehouse scene of the mid 1980’s and rave scene of the early 1990’s.
