Bucksburn Academy Transition Information We are keen to make your child’s transition from Kingswells School to Secondary as smooth as possible. In partnership with pupils, parents, Kingswells and Secondary schools we can make that a reality. Getting it right for Parents every pupil. Kingswells Secondary Kingswells November 2013 Transition information for P7-S1 Some helpful links to further information Successful transition relies on good communication between parents, primary and secondary schools. Mrs MacIver requires information as to which secondary your child will attend, as soon as you know, to ensure attainment and achievement information is shared with your child’s secondary school. Please find below some useful links and further information about the school. Bucksburn Academy Website www.bucksburnacademy.org.uk – the school website has up to date information on pupil achievements, our curriculum and plans for curriculum for excellence, school policies and documents such as our Standards and Quality report and much more. Westhill Academy Website www.westhillacademy.org Aberdeen City Council School Placing Requests http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/education_learning/schools/sch_school_placing_request.asp Choosing a school is an important decision for every family. Under the Children (Scotland) Act 1995 you have the responsibility of consulting your children on matters which affect them and taking account of their views when making a decision. This includes decisions on which school your child will attend. However, the legal right to request a place at a school remains with you as the parent. If you wish to apply for a place for your child in a school which is not your zoned school by address you should contact your chosen school in the first instance. They will advise you to complete an application form. Placing requests must be made before 15th March but the sooner the better. You can expect to hear whether a place has been allocated by 30th April. If you have not received a decision within the timescale above the placing request is deemed to have been refused. Parents can appeal against the decision if their request is refused. Appeals should be lodged within 28 days of receipt of letter of refusal or the timescale for making a decision has expired. Kingswells November 2013 How to get an Accord Card? Pupils attending any of the feeder primary schools to Aberdeen City Council secondary schools will receive an Accord Card application pack during the third term of primary 7, this will be posted to your home address. A passport photo is required to be sent back with the completed application. The address is included with the information, it does not come back to school. You will need the Accord Card for your transition day in June at Bucksburn Academy. Accord Cards (Aberdeen City Council Schools) www.accordaberdeen.co.uk Entitlement Card (Aberdeenshire Schools) www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/publictransport/concessionarytravel/yyoungscot.asp Please ask your child’s Aberdeenshire Secondary School how and when an application can be completed.
