  • Japanese Disfavor of North Korea Reasons, Implications For
International Journal of Art & Humanity Science (IJAHS) e-ISSN: 2349-5235, www.ijahs.com Volume 2 Issue 1, (Jan-Feb 2015), PP. 23-29 JAPANESE DISFAVOR OF NORTH KOREA REASONS, IMPLICATIONS FOR THE REGION, AND POTENTIAL STEPS TO MOVE FORWARD David Tian Abstract- The Korean Peninsula is located in close proximity to the Japanese archipelago, and thus relations among Japan, North Korea, and South Korea have serious implications for the security, stability, and economic well-being of the region. The Japanese public holds a nearly universal negative view of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, with approximately 97% of the public expressing an unfavorable view. This paper will explore the plausible causes of Japan’s negative view of North Korea and the implications of such unfavorable ratings for the Asia-Pacific region at large. One major factor contributing to such a universal negative view of North Korea in Japan is the North Korean state-sponsored abductions of Japanese citizens. Accordingly, in this paper, there will be a discussion about these kidnappings of Japanese citizens. Additionally, North Korea has conducted provocative weapons testing, in violation of international law and threatening security in the region and to Japan in particular. Hence, a discussion of North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic weapons will be included as well. The paper will then conclude with what the implications are for the region at large. For the purposes of this assignment, the terms “kidnapping” and “abduction” will be used interchangeably. The names “North Korea,” “DPRK,” and “The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” will also be used interchangeably as well, as will “South Korea,” “ROK,” and “The Republic of Korea.

Event Detection using Wikipedia Eirik Emanuelsen Martin Rudi Holaker Master of Science in Computer Science Submission date: June 2013 Supervisor: Kjetil Nørvåg, IDI Norwegian University of Science and Technology Department of Computer and Information Science Task Description Analysing huge text based corpora has been a popular field for research, and recently Wikipedia has become a popular corpus to study. This project aims to make a scalable system with web interface for exploring the Wikipedia page view statistics combined with page edit statistics and try to detect popularity spikes. The system can be extended with other features, for example exploring relations and grouping of entities. I II Preface This is the final thesis of our Master’s degree from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Department of Computer and Information Science. It has been prepared over a period of 20 weeks during the spring of 2013. This thesis is within the field of Data and Information Management, and presents a system ca- pable of performing event detection on Wikipedia. We are very grateful to our two academic supervisors; Professor Kjetil Nørvåg (NTNU) and Associate Professor Krisztian Balog (University in Stavanger). During the development of the thesis you have provided guidance that has been invaluable for the final result. Thank you very much for your support, advisory and involvement in the process. Martin Rudi Holaker and Eirik Emanuelsen Trondheim, June 2013 III IV Abstract The amount of information on the web is ever growing, and analysing and making sense of this is difficult without specialised tools. The concept of Big Data is the field of processing and storing these enormous quantities of data.

In the first days of a lengthy regional tour, the king has appeared with top-ranking officials in Indonesia and Malaysia in pictures and clips that have been shared online millions of times. Indonesian President Joko Widodo shared on Facebook a video of himself dining with the king at the presidential palace in Bogor, near the capital Jakarta. In the video, both men comment on the vis- it, the first to Indonesia by a Saudi king in nearly five decades, and give viewers a rare peek into a state event. As Widodo holds what appears to be a phone camera, the king is seen dining before com- menting in Arabic on his 12-day visit to Indonesia, the longest leg of his month-long tour of Asia. “I’m very happy to be here in Indonesia and with the Indonesian people,” King Salman says to the camera, as an interpreter sitting behind him translates into Bahasa Indonesia. The king was also pho- tographed posing for a selfie with former president Megawati Sukarnoputri and her daughter Puan Maharani, who is a member of Widodo’s cabinet.

The announcement comes after a coali- tion raid on a rebel post in Khokha, south of the main Red Sea port of Hodeida, killed 15 rebels and wounded 20 on Wednesday, according to military sources allied with the coalition. A second Emirati soldier died of a heart attack, WAM said. Some 80 Emirati soldiers have been killed since the coalition launched its intervention in support of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi in March 2015. More than 7,400 people have been killed since the intervention began, including around 1,400 children, according to World Health Organization figures. Despite the coalition’s superior firepower, the rebels and their allies still control the capital Sanaa and much of the northern and central highlands as well as the port of Hodeida. Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah sent a cable of condolences yesterday to the President of United Arab of Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
