Add to My Collection. AllMusic Rating. Overview ↓ User Reviews ↓ Credits ↓ Releases ↓ Similar Albums ↓ facebook twitter tumblr. AllMusic Review by Corey Apar. Three Days Grace continue their accessible alt-metal attack of blunt lyrics and crunching rhythms with their sophomore effort, One-X. Thematically based around dealing with the disconnect felt while Three Days Grace were on the road in support of their 2003 album, the music remains catchy despite its lyrical darkness. Not surprisingly, the songs mostly revolve around feelings of isolation, tumultuous relationships, and anguished loneliness -- but through all their misery and confusion, Three Days Grace ultimately embrace the difficulties as merely a part of being human ("I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all" from "Pain"). The band's simple and direct approach owns a certain charm that makes One-X an enjoyable listen, albeit hardly innovative. The bandmembers still have no desire to mask sentiments behind perverse metaphors; just as their 2003 smash single "I Hate Everything About You" addressed a problematic relationship in powerfully straight terms, so do tracks on One-X. For instance -- and just so there's no room for confusion -- "Let It Die" frankly states "I swear I never meant to let it die/I just don't care about you anymore." And the forthright "Riot" ("Let's start a riot!") is one of a few riled-up outsider anthems on hand. But, there are also a number of tracks present that find Three Days Grace adding a few interesting twists to their hard-hitting formula that not only show a gentler side to the guys, but also work out rather nicely. Calming things down a bit, fluid instrumentation and vocalist Adam Gontier's steady delivery make the ominous "Get Out Alive" one of their strongest (though softer) songs, while "Over and Over" employs impassioned strings for an exploration of, yes, dysfunctional relationships. "Pain" finds the band channeling its inner Soundgarden and "Animal I Have Become" has a slight singsongy chorus to complement the track's thick riffing. There is no reason that fans of the band shouldn't embrace this album as the satisfying listen that it is. Some further distinctive qualities could be useful in helping separate Three Days Grace more from their alt-metal peers, but One-X certainly plays as a proficient step in the right direction. May 15, 2018 Creators of Film and Television Music NEWSLETTER A n E n t e r t a i n m e n t I n d u s t r y O r g a n i z a t i on The President’s Corner Journey’s End from Charley Londoño My term as president of the California Copyright Conference (“CCC”) has been one of the most rewarding and fast-moving periods of my life. When I was elected as president, I spoke about (1) increasing membership; (2) increasing the visibility of the John Braheny Scholarship Fund; and (3) providing quality panels with interesting topics. Rarely is reality better than the dream. However, in this case, I believe, collectively as an organization, the CCC surpassed imagination. I wish space permitted me to list all of the accomplishments with specificity, but, I think the growth in membership, increased donations to the scholarship fund, and increased attendance at our panels, speaks volumes of the CCC’s accomplishments. Moreover, to add to the CCC’s accomplishments, the Apollo Awards, as well as the CCC’s Mentorship/Ambassador program, were both launched this year and have now become staples of the CCC’s initiatives. No one succeeds in this business without the help of others, and, I would like to thank the CCC’s officers, board, and members for a successful year. My heart is humbled by the amazing privilege of service as your president. Thank you for the opportunity and the journey. Best, J. Charley Londoño, Esq. A brilliant but so- mewhat arrogant and antisocial man, Nash preferred to spend his time with his thoughts, which were primarily of seeing mathematical formula associated with everyday occurrences, than with people. Two people he did make a connection with were Charles, his roommate at Prin- ceton, and Alicia Larde, one of his students when he was teaching at M.I.T. in the early 1950’s. He and Alicia eventually marry. As time goes on, Nash lives more and more within himself which causes major pro- blems in his life. But Alicia stands by her husband to his redemption to the Nobel Prize win. Nash learns that his graduate school colleagues, with whom he had a cordial but somewhat distant relationship, are clo- ser friends than he imagined, although in his later life he really does miss Charles’ company more than anything despite knowing that spending time with Charles is not in his or anyone’s best interest.

Opinion by Judge Clifton * The Honorable Frederic Block, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of New York, sitting by designation. Case: 13-57093, 09/02/2016, ID: 10110913, DktEntry: 66-1, Page 2 of 13 2 LOOMIS V. CORNISH SUMMARY** Copyright The panel affirmed the district court’s summary judgment in favor of the defendants in a copyright infringement case. Will Loomis, composer of the song “Bright Red Chords,” alleged that the defendants stole a two-measure vocal melody and used it as the theme for the verse melody in their hit song “Domino.” The panel held that Loomis did not put forth any potentially admissible evidence to establish that the Domino songwriters had access to Bright Red Chords, either on a chain-of-events theory or a widespread-dissemination theory. Accordingly, he failed to establish copyright infringement.
