Betsy made this announcement to the Board of Directors at our April meeting and discussed her decision with the Alumnae Board later that day. There is never a “good” time for an extraordinary person such as President Muhlenfeld to retire. Largely due to her leadership, however, the College is as strong as it has been in many years, with new or updated facilities, outstanding academic programs, nationally known faculty, highly effective, cohesive senior administrators, and sound finances. Her tireless efforts ensured our successful $111 million capital campaign, and her vision has led to the steadily increasing enrollment of vibrant, engaged students. As a result, the College is well positioned to meet the challenges of the future. The most immediate of those challenges is to find a worthy successor to President Muhlenfeld.
