New Ways to Create Sacred Space at Home for the Holiday Season A Zoom class for a new celebration of Thanksgiving and Christmas November 12, 6:30 pm Led by Norm Weinstein

Stewardship Campaign Update

The stewardship campaign has truly been filled with faith. First, we are humbled by the Vestry’s leadership. As a group, they have achieved 100% participation in the campaign.

We are so thankful for all of the pledges. In the first month of our campaign over 131 individuals and families have pledged for a total amount of $387,380. Each day, we receive more pledge cards from individuals who believe in the mission of St. Michael’s and have faith that 2021 will bring us together in our church to worship and share fellowship.

Our stewardship committee invites you to prayerfully consider your ability to share in our mission. The clergy and the volunteers demonstrated their faith by being creative to meet the changes in our world. Please join us by sharing your time, talent and treasure to continue to build the legacy at St. Michael’s.

Torene Bonner Co-Chair, Stewardship Committee

Youth News

Meeting Indoors: I am excited to announce that the Dean, in consultation with the Reopening Committee, has approved a plan for us to meet inside, in Tuttle Hall! As the weather continues to change and get colder, we will all find this a warm and welcome blessing. All current safety measures will be retained, and enhanced measures will be added. Windows and doors on all sides will be kept open to promote airflow, so please still dress for warmth. We will need to take an outside break at our halfway point to let the building and the air “reset.” Our distance will be increased to 8 feet.

Rake Up Boise: On Saturday, November 14th, St. Michael’s Youth will form a team to participate in Neighborworks Boise’s annual Rake Up Boise. Once we are assigned a yard (forthcoming shortly) we will plan to gather at St. Michael’s on the morning of the 14th and head over to our assigned yard. This is a great way to be in service to our community while maintaining COVID safety protocols. To register your youth (or yourself!) for our team, email Chris Harding at [email protected]

Greens Pickup Days: Thank you to those who participated in our Advent & Winter Greens Fundraiser! We were so glad to be back this year. Pick up at St. Michael’s, in Tuttle Hall, will be available on November 17th and 18th, from 11 am to 3 pm. Please email Chris Harding ([email protected]) to reserve a time.

Treasurer’s Third Quarter 2020 Report

Our pledges for nine months continue to fall behind our budget. We had targeted $350,000 and we received $308,000. All in all, the financials look good, as you can see from the graph below, which shows a surplus of $77,000 (The blue line over the red square)! I am showing the expenses for the remainder of the year so it is easier to understand.

The main reason for this is that we continue to underspend our expenses, which is understandable with limited activity due to Covid-19. However, I predict that this gap will close somewhat as we continue to hire new staff members to fill our vacancies.

Below is our Cash position which is the most important metric I can offer you: We have subdivided the cash by Activity as it is important to understand what is available for each activity. The Discretionary and Safety Net Fund is a new activity that represents approximately two months of expenses.

--Brad Bruggeman, Treasurer

1. Operating Budget Support 92,924 These funds represent safety net money in case the total monthly receipts tank and expenses go beyond the usual. The amount represents close to 2 months.

2. The GAR Fund 200,978 These funds represent money that was repaid to the GAR Fund from the Carnegie Building Sale. These funds can also be used as a safety net or for capital projects.

3. The GAR Capital Fund 6,127 This fund was set up to insure that we have funds available for Capital projects . For the Gar Building.

4. The Restricted Funds 191,916 Funds which are to be spent on the specific restricted Accounts.

5. The Cathedral Capital Fund 713,990 These funds represent the amount of money that the Vesry has available for Campus Capital Projects. 109,228 6. Discretionary & Safety Net Fund This represents approximately two months of expenses.

Search Committee Update

Thank you to all who responded to our requests to participate in the story gathering process for our search for a new Dean. We have had 110 people agree to be interviewed by members of the committee and have been working to get all of their input.

We have completed the neighborhood walks within a mile of the Cathedral. Six small groups of committee members and other interested parishioners walked segments of the city surrounding our property: NW, NE, East End, Capitol, West and SW. Much was observed and learned and will help us know how our church fits into the larger community as we go forward. We shared our findings at our 6th Search Committee meeting in October.

Remember to check the website: stmichaelsdeansearch.org for information. Also, we ask for you to keep praying the Transition prayer. God’s Blessings to you all.

Amen.

Thank you, Lay Eucharistic Ministers!

We are blessed to have several Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM) who have been leading and helping with our small communion groups during the past few months. We want to thank Corrine Bush, Brad England, Christine Merritt, Jane Rexinger, Carolyn Kiefer, Ellen Blackmon, David Wilkins, Sally Langley, Julie Slee, Sue Bolen, Deborah Bail, and Mary Langenfeld for their time and guidance.

Since we are not able to gather in the Cathedral, these LEMs have been officiating at small communion group services in local parks and the back yards of homes. Groups of ten St. Michael’s parishioners have been gathering on Saturdays or Sundays for the Holy Eucharist. Masks are worn and physical distancing is observed. In addition to being able to receive communion, they also spend some time visiting with each other.

If you are interested in finding a group near you, please contact the church office for information, and join others in prayer and communion.
