BSA NSW Banter Newsletter V40 #6 December 2020
The New sle tte r of th e BS A Meetings, but not yet: MC 8pm, 1st Thursday of each month C N at SW Prospect Hotel, 3 Great Western Highway, Vol 40 #6 Nov-Dec 2020 Prospect 1 Jeez!!! First it’s relaxed then it’s on again. Lockdowns, ring-fencing, movement restrictions, it’s all a little confusing. The festive season ain’t very festive at the moment. Roll on the vaccine. Sorry fellers, no more Bayview or Pie in the Sky rides. This, apart from imbibing and eating some Xmas goodies, is the ideal time for …The Shed. Internet parts purchasing (taking months to arrive!), hours of fun wrestling with an unyielding rusted bolt, bits that don’t fit, what could be better? Club meetings have been postponed until the restrictions ease, but we still have email and WhatsApp. Membership renewals for next year went out late October, and many have already renewed. Remember, if you have conditional plates through the Club, you must be a financial Member and the 2020 membership finishes 31 December. There are still some members who haven’t renewed for 2020, but if you want to be reinstated for 2021, that’s fine. And my best Xmas present was from my son-in-law, who found this cast-iron plaque somewhere. It’s about 40cm long and is now mounted in the Ed Shed. And a Safe and Happy Xmas to all Members. 2 The Motorcycle Design, Art, Desire 28 Nov 2020 – 26 Apr 2021 GQueensland Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane Gallery 1.1 The Fairfax Gallery, Gallery 1.2, Gallery 1.3 Eric & Marion Taylor Gallery Ticketed Discover a whole new perspective of The Motorcycle. -
Catalogue of the Canberra Bicycle Museum Collection
CATALOGUE OF THE CANBERRA BICYCLE MUSEUM COLLECTION Expressions of interest are called for to acquire the entire collection or significant parts of it. The Big BMX bike was specially commissioned for the Canberra Bicycle Museum in Dickson, ACT, Australia. It is a feature of the front yard, especially attracting young children. First time offered Closing date: 31 October 2008 www.canberrabicyclemuseum.com.au Foreword The Directors of the Canberra Tradesmen’s Union Club are reluctantly calling for expressions of interest in the Acquisition of the Canberra Bicycle Museum collection of bicycles as a complete collection. This excellent and world renowned collection was painstakingly put together, over several decades. by the dedicated curator and staff of the museum at the express wish of the Club’s Directors as a service to the Community and their concern that these items are not lost to the future. The specimens have been collected from many parts of the world with the view to store and display these historical items for research, education and enjoyment of present and future generations. The collection is the largest of its type in Australia, and one of the largest in the world. It consists of over 500 bicycles, including many fine specimens in original condition. Some have been restored to as new, while others are in as found condition, but all representing the euphoria and magic of the bicycle through the various eras of its development. It is envisaged that the collection would be acquired as a complete offering, by a Government or semi - government body or trust, with adequate resources to allow for a significant part of the collection be available for display to the public, for historical, research, education, tourism and other appropriate purpose. -
Vintage Motorcycle Club Newsletter Kickstart 2016 11
A monthly publication of The Vintage Motorcycle Club Johannesburg, South Africa. Volume 31. No 11. November 2016 CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE: Motorcycling is a pastime full of variation. Since the inception of a motorised two wheeler, anyone wanting to be part of a world in which you aren’t cossetted in a cocoon of steel and glass opted for the open road on a motorcycle. This gave rise to various interesting characters that frequent the annals of motorcycle history. From the Tourer, to the Sportster, Stunt rider and more recently the Adventure rider (read Martin Davis) our brothers and sisters take to the roads, tracks and countryside on all forms of two or three wheeled moped. Our own society and movement has a very specific bond with motorcycling and the older, the better. However as we age, we need to inject newer blood into our movement to keep it going. This predicament isn’t unique to VMC as all hobbies and pastimes are struggling to keep their “induction ports” above water these days. It is essential to bring younger enthusiasts to our gatherings, both to introduce new blood and get the generation who inherited their parent’s motorcycles to bring them into the fold. Your ideas on how we can do this will be most welcome; also getting together from a social perspective and riding more as a club can make our movement more visible. In this regard, the committee will plan regular club rides, over and above the main Regularity and Commemorative events, while encouraging all members to get out there and “exercise the steeds”.
