Promoted to Associate Head Coach in 2003 for his loyalty and tremendous contribution to the program, Rob Beam is in his fifth year overall at WSU. Coach Beam has been instrumental in the Raiders success on and off the court. He has designed several programs to aid in training and development of players and works closely with Coach Tracy on offensive and defen­ sive systems. In 200l , he presented one of his systems atthe American Volleyball Coaches Association convention in San Diego. His other responsibilities include organizing practice sessions, recruiting and aiding in match strategy. Along with his duties at Wright State, Beam served as Director of Coaching Develop­ ment this past club season for Dayton Juniors, the club he has worked with since 2000. In 2002, his Blue Angels team placed third in the 17 Open Division at the Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships in Salt Lake City. This was the first team in the history of the club that won a medal at this tournament. In 2003, his 17 Open team finish fifth in the club division at nationals. Beam arrived in 2000 following a year at Quincy University as the First Assistant for both the women sand men steams. He was instrumental in the Hawks success in 1999 as they finished as the # 16 ranked team in NCAA Divsion I Men s Volleyball. Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Beam worked with both high school and club teams. For two years he coached at Dubuque High School in Iowa. He then coached for the Adversity Volleyball Club in Northfield, , from 1997-99. As a player, Beam helped build the men s volleyball program at Clarke College into a perennial NCAA Division Ill powerhouse. During his career, he captained the team, was nomed Most Valuable Player and was the recipient of both the Hustle Award and the Senior Athlete of the Year. A defensive standout, Beam was the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association leader in digs per game as a senior and finished second in the nation overall. A two-sport standout, Beam was also the Most Valuable Player as a midfielder on the Crusader soccer team. He graduated summa cum laude from the school in 1996.
