VÖ: 20 im Auftrag: medienAgentur Stefan Michel T 040-5149 1467 F 040-5149 1465 [email protected] TRACY CHAPMAN Greatest Hits 25 Jahre TRACY CHAPMAN erstmalig auf einer Compilation! VÖ: 20. November 2015 Am 20. Tracklisting: 1. Telling Stories (2000) 2. Baby Can I Hold You (1988) 3. • Women Singer-Songwriters As Exemplary Actors: the Music of Rape and Domestic Violence
Women Singer-Songwriters as Exemplary Actors: The Music of Rape and Domestic Violence KATHANNE W. GREENE At the 2016 Oscars, Lady Gaga, joined onstage by fifty rape survivors, performed the song “Til It Happens to You.” The Oscar-nominated song by Lady Gaga and Diane Warren was written for The Hunting Ground, a documentary film about campus sexual assault. Over thirty-one million people viewed the Oscar performance, which brought some in the audience to tears, and the video on Vevo has received over twenty-nine million views with another twenty-eight million views on YouTube. The film, video, and performance are the result of a growing political and social movement by young high school and college women to force schools, universities, and colleges to vigorously respond to rape and sexual harassment on campus. In response to complaints filed by more and more young women, the Obama Administration and the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) in the Department Education began investigating claims that schools, colleges, and universities were not actively and adequately responding to claims of sexual assault and harassment despite passage of the Clery Act of 1990. The Clery Act requires colleges and universities to report data on crime on campus, provide support and accommodations to survivors, and establish written policies and procedures for the handling of campus crime.1 Since 2011, the OCR has expanded its efforts to address sexual assault on campuses as violations of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 that prohibits sex discrimination

The results of this deconstruction are the ten paired songs and images that compose this thesis. My hope is that each song and image work together to encapsulate the event itself and present my emotional climate during the time at which it occurred, and that my audience is prompted by the choice I have made to evaluate my journey to consider the many individual moments that make up each of their own. The primary thematic focus of the album is on how I have been affected by my relationships with others. In other words, the role that different types of love have played in my life thus far.

  • Psaudio Copper
Issue 70 OCTOBER 22ND, 2018 Welcome to Copper #70! The Rocky Mountain Audio Fest took place October 5-7, and as is often the case, we had our first snow shortly thereafter. Just a few days later, temps are back up in the 60s F (say 15-ish,C). Aside from a dusting upon higher points around us, the snow's gone. Fourteener Longs Peak (>14,000 feet elevation) in the distance looks like an ice cream sundae, and will likely stay that way until next June. Maybe later. Oh: Part 1 of my walk around the show appears here, in this issue. The gang is almost all here---more on that in a bit: Larry Schenbeck brings us Bach, with some atypical instrumentation; Dan Schwartz is still recovering, so we’ll revisit his piece on minimalist Nik Bärtsch ; Richard Murison remembers a celebrity encounter; Jay Jay French explains how artists get short shrift, yet again ; Roy Hall recounts close encounters with suicide; Anne E. Johnson brings us obscure cuts from Tracy Chapman, and presents a fascinating Something Old/Something New on medieval Spanish chant (really---listen to this stuff); Christian James Hand deconstructs Beastie Boys' "Sabotage", and it's pretty amazing; and I continue the series on phono technology, and write about glossolalia. ;->. Industry News looks at, yes, still more drama from Sears; and we reluctantly wrap up our friend Rich Maez's feature on Monterey Auto Week. Copper #70 concludes with Charles Rodrigues contemplating a philosophical question, and a Parting Shot from Middle Of Nowhere, Colorado. I'm happy to announce that---God willin' and the creek don't rise---Woody Woodward will return in Copper #71, and our friend Tom Methans will be bringing us another take on RMAF.

Music and the public sphere Exploring the political significance of Norwegian hip hop music through the lens of public sphere theory Torgeir Uberg Nærland Dissertation for the degree philosophiae doctor (PhD) at the University of Bergen 2014 Disertation date: "[Click and enter dissertation date]" © Copyright Torgeir Uberg Nærland The material in this publication is protected by copyright law. Year: 2014 Title: Music and the public sphere: Exploring the political significance of Norwegian hip hop music through the lens of public sphere theory Author: Torgeir Uberg Nærland Print: AIT OSLO AS / University of Bergen Abstract This thesis explores the political significance of Norwegian hip hop music through the lens of public sphere theory. It empirically investigates the role of music in the public sphere, and, probes key theoretical concepts from public sphere theory and democratic theory in regards to the perspectives these offer on the political significance of music. Thus, this thesis uses specific cases studies to address a wider question, namely, how to understand aesthetics and expressive culture within the theoretical framework of deliberative democracy. The thesis consists of four independent articles, respectively exploring the following aspects of hip hop music as an aesthetic and political practice: audience, production, text and reception. The first article, a quantitative survey conducted among young politicians, asks broadly, how musical taste relates to political orientation and social background, and what genres or types of music are perceived to have political significance today. The second article is an interview study of key actors on the Norwegian hip hop- scene. Set within the framework of public sphere theory this article asks to what extent the motivations and aesthetic practices of Norwegian hip hop artists are relevant to public discourse.
