RECESS - BUNDLE UP! IT’S COLD OUTSIDE!

Central Community Unit School District 301 students will participate in outdoor recess whenever the temperature (with the wind chill) is at or above 0 degrees Fahrenheit. To keep warm, students need coats, hats, scarves, and mittens. Their time spent outdoors is more enjoyable when they are dressed properly. Students must have boots and snow pants to leave the black top area of the play- ground when snow is on the ground. Students healthy enough to attend school are considered healthy enough to attend recess. A parent note excusing the student from physical activity, PE and recess, can be accepted for up to two days for an injury or illness. A maximum of two parent notes per semester will be accepted; beyond this, a medical excuse from a physician is required. The medical excuse should state the diagnosis, length of time the student must not participate, and a date of return to activities without re- striction. Students that are not able to participate in outdoor recess will remain in the cafeteria and engage in a quiet activity under the guidance of the lunchroom supervisor.

DENTAL INFORMATION

During the month of February, many dentists from the Fox Valley area are participating in the Dentist with a Heart Program and will be opening their doors to offer free services. If interested or to get additional information, visit www.dentistwithaheartonline.org. This is the website for the Aurora Children’s Dental Service who sponsors the event; next, click on the tab: Dentist with a Heart. Be mindful that services vary by location and some locations do require an appointment.

KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE MUSIC PROGRAMS

The Kindergarten and First Grade Music Programs are getting closer and the students have been working hard to learn their songs. The programs will be February 13th, 2018 in the school gymnasium. Each program should last about half an hour. All kindergarten and first grade students are expected to participate. Mrs. Mack will be sending home a letter soon with more information, but please feel free to contact Mrs. Mack with any questions or con- cerns. Kindergarten program, “Animal Fair,” will be presented at 6:00pm – 6:30pm. First Grade program, “Goin’ to the Zoo,” will be presented at 7:00pm – 7:30pm.

Don’t forget to order a DVD of the music program. The cost is $10 and forms are available in the office and in this newsletter. Checks should be made payable to Marilyn Becker. All orders are due the night of the program. Late orders cannot be accepted.

READ TO ROVER

The Read to Rover Program is a huge success! The students continue to have the opportunity to read books to various dogs that are certified through Therapy Dog International Inc. The children are excited to read their books to the beautiful dogs such as the Labrador/Golden Retrievers and Malamute. This program is intended to inspire students to read in a relaxed atmosphere while the dogs show they care by listening to the students read the books! What a great experience!

BE PREPARED FOR THE WEATHER

Central Community Unit School District 301

Dr. Todd Stirn, Superintendent

275 South St., P.O. Box 396 Burlington, IL 60109 847-464-6005 847-464-6021 Fax www.burlington.k12.il.us

This year, forecasters are predicting a very cold winter with heavy snowfall. While we can never be sure what the weather will bring, it is important to review emergency closing notification procedures in case we should have a school closing. District 301 staff are reminded that there are multiple places to check for information about weather-related closings. Information will be released through:  A phone message to staff and parents  An email message to staff and parents  The District 301 website: www.central301.net  The District 301 Facebook page: www.facebook.com/CentralSchoolDistrict301  The District 301 app  The Emergency Closing Center website: www.emergencyclosings.com  Local newspapers, television stations, and radio stations

Central schools provide students with a safe and effective learning environment. When severe weather occurs, administra- tion consults with numerous people before deciding to close school. Dr. Stirn consults with other area school officials and with the district’s directors of transportation and facilities to help make the decision to remain open or to close. Admin- istration is inclined to keep school in session if at all possible. It is less disruptive for students, teachers, and parents if clas- ses are held as usual. District 301 will only send out a notice when schools are closed. If there is no announcement via our numerous communication channels, you can assume that schools are open. If schools will be closed, a decision will be made by 5:30 am. Please also prepare for the possibility of early dismissal should the weather conditions deteriorate during the day. While the district tries to avoid early dismissal, a plan within your family should be established so your children would know what to do if they arrive home and find their parents gone.

The art show is fast approaching and Mrs. Thayer is in need of some extra hands to help mount, label and hang the students’ artwork. If you have some extra time to give in the next month please email her at: [email protected] Any time you have to give would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Dear Country Trails Families,

Country Trails is now participating in the Kane County Cougars Reading Club. The program for the students runs from 1/22/18 until 3/18/18. The eight week program is divided into four-two week segments, with each segment representing a base on a diamond. When a student completes a segment, he or she will advance to the next base. If your child decides to participate, he or she will need to complete the specific reading assignment every two weeks in order to complete each segment.

The students who complete the entire program for the Kane County Cougars Reading Club will receive a ticket form for a free ticket in April. In order to receive the free ticket, families must order the ticket either online, mail the ticket form, or bring the ticket form to the box office during box office hours. The Kane County Cougars box office hours are Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. or on game days 9:00 a.m. until the end of the game (including weekends).

Families can order their student tickets online. If they order online, there is a $1.50 processing fee per ticket. If families bring in their ticket form in person to the ticket window, there is no additional processing fee. Families will be able to select their seats and print their tickets at home. To insure that the families are sitting in Country Trails School's section, it’s important that the families follow instructions and select the section listed on the ticket order forms when they are sent home. The dates for Country Trails School’s games are: April 29, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. and May 25, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. They can choose either game to attend.

There are so many extracurricular activities to choose from nowadays so we are thrilled you chose this one! Tuesday, January 16th We think we are pretty awesome and that the girl you enrolled in the Open Enrollment GOTR is as well! Throughout the GOTR program, the girls will explore their beliefs, challenges, and things they are experiencing in their young March 12, 2018 lives. Our trained (and amazing!) coaching staff will help the girls gain a Late Program Enrollment – better understanding of who they are and what’s important to them. During the program, we will also focus on the importance of teamwork and extra fee added healthy relationships, and what role they can play in positively impacting th and shaping our world. March 12 Season Starts! Obviously running and physical activity are components to our program, after all the word “run” is in it! It is our hope that the girls gain an Monday, May 14th appreciation for physical activity throughout the program, and this inspires End of season Celebration them to continue to live a healthy and active lifestyle for the rest of their lives. At the end of the program, our team will participate in a Girls on the 5K – Saturday, May 12th Run 5k (3.1 miles) run. It’s an exciting way to end a season! Crossing the finish line is just the beginning for the Mariano’s at Chicagoland girls….the real journey and accomplishment is each girl realizing her full Speedway (Joliet) potential and that who she is, is enough. Families requiring financial assistance can apply when registering for the program. A late fee is added of $5 for registering after our first day of practice, March 12, 2018.

5k Day! Each girl’s program registration includes her entry for the 5k event. She will need to have a Running Buddy (adult chaperone) to run with her, keep her safe on the course, and encourage her throughout the run! Please help your participant start thinking about possible Running Buddies. Each Running Buddy MUST register for the 5K! GOTRC has a group of female volunteers that come to the 5k as Running Buddies for those who do not have one. These females have completed background checks. If you need help finding a Running Buddy, please let your Site Coordinator know. The 5k is open to the public, so any friends or family members can register to run too!

Players will continue to have fun learning the fundamentals of baseball and in no time will catch, throw and hit like the “big kids”. Games the first half of the season are all coached pitch. In the second half, we will introduce kid pitch and will be a mix of coach pitch and kid pitch. Mustang (Ages 9 & 10) - Dirt on the uniforms & bubble gum in the dugout. This is youth baseball at its best. The Mustang division introduces full-time“kid pitch” & score- keeping at every game. Watch young players expand their love for the game & build lasting friendships with teammates.

Bronco (Ages 11 & 12) - The field gets bigger and the players faster, lead-offs and pick-offs add a new element as youth players have fun learning strategies of the game. Developing skills and knowledge is the cornerstone for all at this level. CDBL has partnered with Algonquin Area Youth Organization (AAYO) and Lake in the Hills (LITH) to bring more teams and a more diverse level competition to teams in this division. Games are split between our home fields and the AAYO/LITH home fields.

Pony (Ages 13 - 15) - CDBL has partnered with Algonquin Area Youth Organization (AAYO) and Lake in the Hills (LITH) to bring more teams and a more diverse level compe- tition to teams in this division. Games are split between our home fields at Stonecrest and the AAYO/LITH home fields.
